We have not been behind for a single second in our first two games, a VG thing, but have not put either team away as we should have.

Our stats have been interesting. We ran 65 times and passed 49, a good balance considering we were ahead and trying to take time off the clock.

Ronnie is on pace to rush for 1200 yds, and Rickey for 800, about what we had hoped for. Marshall is on pace for 96 catches for 1,000 yds, which is roughly what we expected. Henne has made no big mistakes, and we are 2-0

So. why do I feel like those first two games were like an extension of pre-season, and our O played for about a half?

Can we flick that switch and become a scary O?

Our offense has looked scary at times. I think (hope) that they are just slower to start then the D. Maybe one day soon, when the D might need a lift for whatever reason, the O can come on strong and show what it's like firing on all cylinders instead.

I dont care if we only score 3 points every game, as long as we win just keep doing what work.

Would it be nice to put 40 on the board every game, sure, but as long as we get that W I dont care what we score.

    Well away from here
Just bear in mind our QB will be making his 16th NFL start. Somewhere between the 20-24th game for Henne is when I expect to see a jump in the offense.

I believe we need to go more to Bess and Hartline. Henne had a connection there last season but, seems to be going to Marsall a bit too much. JMO.

I think that the O was lesser of a priority over the off season because we brought in the new defensive coordinator (etc..) so we might be a little behind because of that. But we must start to score some points. Our defense is great but eventually they will tire and injure if we keep them on the field so long.

I also think that they have been keeping Henne on his playbook limited until we feel that the time is right. This week might just do the trick. If Henne can stop under-throwing people. Eventually the will have to get fancy and run a four wide out set and go long. We need to see Marshall, Moore, Bess and Wallace going deep, throwing out of the back filed, running screens and using our TE a little more.

We have all the tools, it's just a matter of when they want to flip the switch. BUT.......when they do flip that switch........LOOK OUT!

Based on your time table, we may end up 2-6. Let's all hope it comes a bit sooner, like Sunday night.

If we're 2-0 before that jump, why would we be 2-6 by the time it gets here? We played a quality team and won. We played a good secondary and won. So what makes you think we can't start 4-2 or 6-0? I certainly don't see a compelling reason as to why we can't beat the Jest, Patsies, and Stallers.

    Boston, MA...
I said it in a previous thread, our toughest game after the bye (from wk 6-10) is GB much to the chagrin of Ray. BAL, PIT, and TEN's play styles seem to appeal more to us. Nonetheless, the previous post is banking on us losing 6 straight? While a distinct possibility...I would hope not. Cinci's ability to score lots of points through the air is a cause for concern as well.

I think that we cannot beat any of the next six teams on our schedule by scoring one TD on O. Buff is not a good team, and we were more lucky than good on O to beat Minny.

In no way, shape, or form am I banking on losing 6 straight. Just saying that we have to do more on O to avoid that happening. The six teams I refer to are much better than who we played.

    Back in Miami
That sounds great but you won't win by scoring 3 points a game.

I think the point here is that to this point we have not shown we can field an offense that can move down the field when needed.......... To this point.
It's been a hot topic simply because it's a very valid one.

No ones jumping off bridges, just pointing out a point that should make us leery.

Hopefully after tomorrow night we'll all be talking about how effective our passing game was. Because we surely are not going to win V. the Jets running the ball. THey don't give up those yards.

Everyone, myself included, believed that our O would carry our D for the first 4 games. So far, the opposite has been true, to everyone's surprise.

I'm with ya on flipping that switch, and loving each and every second of it. It will happen.

Agreed. I do not think the problem with the offense is that they are conservative. The problem is the offense is ineffective. People are going to have to do their damn jobs and stop making mistakes. It is hard to go deep if there is pressure up the middle.

Maybe there should be more calls that gives Marshall a chance to go up for a long ball, however for the most part the offense just isn't clicking.

On the money CR. We need to kick it up a notch or two. We definitely have the ability to do this. About time we showed it.

The Dolphins ran a conservative offense when they went 11-5. They scored more than 10 points a game. Hell even Wanny/Jimmy's conservative offenses scored more than 10 points a game.

The goal on the offense wasn't to score 7 points and just let the defense win the game. They did call a more conservative gameplan, however the plan wasn't to be ineffective.

Miami's offense just hasn't been clicking.

Yea but let's call a spade a spade and the fact of the matter is in both games, we didn't necessarily beat them as much as they beat themselves INCLUDING THE BILLS.

There will come a point in the very near future where the defense alone will not be able to win the ballgame and the conservatine stuff will go right out the window. Until then, enjoy being undefeated and take comfort that much of our playbook has yet to be opened.

I don't mind that we haven't been lighting it up on offense b/c we haven't really tried to light it up.

My point is: I'm glad we're 2-0 w/o having to open up our entire playbook. It makes it tougher for the Jets and Pats to know what to expect or how to game plan against us.

Agreed. Strangely enough, the same can be said for Nolan's playbook on D. Players have said that they have barely scratched the surface. I'm guessing that the very young Sanchise will be seeing a "few" things we have not shown.

Yourkidding right? We have not used Marshall nearly enough!! We need BIG plays out of him at least 10 catches a game..

We need to mix up pass / run plays on different downs. We are going to have a hard time running tonight so we need to PASS more tonight.

    GM,

Not a very nice thing to say. No one is crying over 2-0, just giving opinions on how we get to 3-0 and beyond.

Scoring one TD a game, from our O, is not gonna get our team where we want it to be. I see concern and hope much more than crying.

How can you not share the same feelings?

I can be a little brash, especially on game days, don't take it personal, we're all friends here .

Pointing out an issue, an extremely obvious one, without offering any real explanation, context or potential fixes sounds like whining IMO.

Truth is, we're 2-0 w/ both wins coming in tough road venues. There's not a team in the league who wouldn't take that in a heart beat. Our offensive issues pale in comparison to the Jets' offensive problems. The Pats D is is an insult to the term defense. The Bills belong in the ACC not the AFC East.

We've got a good chance of entering the bye week 4-0, with a 2 game lead in the division and a win over all 3 division opponents. That's as close to a stranglehold as you can ever have after 4 weeks, and even the most optimistic fan wouldn't have dared to predict it a month ago. But here we are. So I just don't understand all of the complaining. There's room for improvement on both sides of the ball, there always is. If you want to talk solutions I'm all for it, but rehashing the obvious, not so much.

Talk about not giving a team any respect. I'll agree that the O needs to start holding their own but you're slapping the D across the face. I must have missed it when both the Bills & Vikes mailed it in during those games.

I did not take it personal at all. I did post a moth ago that I believed we could very well start 3-1, and possibly 4-0, and was not wearing the Aqua glasses at the time. :)

I thought my suggestion of spreading the ball around more was a possible solution. Someone here posted that Henne was throwing to Marsall after he made his cut as opposed to before. I agreed, and that tells me they are not yet on the same page, which will come.

Henne had a good connection with Bess and Hartline last season, and also brought R & R more into the passing game. My thinking is that we should use that more until Marshall's timing with Henne is better, as we all know it will be.

I can't say that I am right but, I very seldom take shots at my team without having a suggestion/opinion on what "may" work a bit better.

    :knucks:

We ran for 130 against the stingiest run D in the NFL over the past 4 years (Minne) who averages 75 YPG. Don't underestimate our ground game. Marshall's mere existence on the field IS utilizing him. Ask Ronnie. :wink2:

Our O will continue to reflect the quality of D we are playing, the gelling of the OL and the progress of Henne with our receivers.
