Steelers in 2009: 536 pass attempts, 428 rush attempts.
Steelers in 2008: 506 pass attempts, 460 rush attempts.

    Try again.

Rushing proficiency is not the way to win the Super Bowl. Decades ago, maybe. Now? No way.

I never said anything about needing to be a passing team. I said you need to be able to pass the ball. We can throw the ball, when Henning allows it. You need to have balance on offense. And no dinking and dunking either. Henning needs to take the shackles off Henne. Henning needs to stop playing it safe in FG range. Henning needs to stop sitting on a small lead and try to finish the opposing team off.

Defense wins championships though as far as I'm concerned.

Miami was passing proficient against the Vikings.

Which game was this screen to Fasano for a TD. I'd like to see see it as I sure don't remember it.

About the Wildcat, if it works, it's still a bad playcall. I'm never in favor using the Wildcat after having great success out of the conventional offense, no matter what the result is. Only time I don't mind the Wildcat in this situation is on the goalline.

Poor execution? That's possible. But when there's players running routes in front of the 1st down line consistently, it's a coaching problem. Whether it be the playcalling, or the coach not ripping into the players for running routes in front of of the 1st down marker, coaching problem all the way.

Then that is just a difference of philosophy.

Poor execution? That is the only explanation that makes sense. With good execution Miami offense scores more than 7 points against the Vikings. The Vikings defense is good, however they are not that good. The execution was very inconsistent.

The receivers have been receivers for years, they should know where the first down marker is. Except for Roborto Wallace. If he made that mistake, then it would be on the coaching staff.

It's funny that you listed 2009. A season in which the Steelers did nothing.

Let's continue the yearly recap shall we:

    2007 442 pass attempts 511 rush attempts - playoffs
2006 523 pass attempts 469 rush attempts - no playoffs
2005 379 pass attempts 549 rush attempts - super bowl

    YOU try again. :tongue2:

Yes, it's all on execution. No laughable gameplan at all running the ball 27 times on the best run defense in the league, and only passing it 17 times on a beat up, weak secondary. No coaching problem whatsoever here.

LOL!!! The Steelers have always been a running BASED team. Always!! They want and need over 1500 yrds rushing as a team, and want more always.

The Steelers won the SB in 2005 right? They ran the ball 549 times for over 2000 yrds.

Rushing proficiency is absolutely a way to win the Super Bowl and it's proven decade in, and decade out. Way~

The play was run against Buffalo the week prior. It gained 8 yards.

There is a lot more to do with Henning just doing what you say. I happen to get very frustrated with Henning as well but you know what? There are a lot of times when he calls plays that catch me by total surprise and work.

This year has been a bit frustrating on offense. Sure! But we have seen plenty of times when Henning calls a ton of passes. Most of that time was with Pennington at Qb. A Qb he knew he could trust to make very good decisions. I truely believe he is trying to ease Henne into that role, and also think we will see him unleash Henne more and more from here on out....

Here is the fact that you are ignoring about that drive. The drive was killed by a sack Henne took on third down.

Yeah! Henne took a sack on first down! It's now 3rd and 18. On second down we attempt a TE screen to get some yardage back. The same TE screen that gained 8 yards versus Buffalo the week prior. Incomplete...

I thought you were arguing for more passing. The thing is that every situation you have cited from that game was a negative result....

    FROM A PASS!

I certainly won't dispute that Henning has the ability to call brilliant plays, and call great games. Problem is that's few and far between these days.

Right but with a new interior offensive line, and a Qb that has only like 15 starts, I would expect him to be a little more conservative. Not as much as he has but for sure I did expect them to be running a heck of a lot more to begin with.

There was most certainly not a sack on the drive I'm referring to (1st drive of the 2nd half). Just checked the NFL Gamebook.

We most certainly did not run a tight end screen on the drive I'm referring to (drive that went from the 1st to the 2nd quarter). At the Minnesota 36 yard line, Henne gets sacked for an 8 yard loss. We then run Ronnie up the middle on 2nd and 18 for a -2 yard loss, and Polite up the middle for a 4 yard gain on 3rd and 20. Laughable playcalling at best.

We'll know alot more about both Henne and Sanchez by the end of this season, for right now seems like both are doing pretty well. Sanchez was terrible up until his last game against the Pats compared to the vets and Henne has been average for the most part but both of them have made some brilliant throws at times as well and given both us and the Jets hope that they have found thier franchise QB's. It's definitely too early to start making any deciding factors on either QB though. Too many variables and add rookie mistakes on top of it...trying to decide if either of them are going to be game changers or just game managers at this point is purely a guessing game.

I'm rooting for Henne though, he makes good decisions he's a little slow on some throws but he's perfect on others seems like with time and experience he can overcome those issues. I think Sanchez on the other hand makes alot of bad decisions that a good secondary takes advantage of, this game will be very telling if the Pats secondary really is that bad or if Sanchez really has learned, if he goes back to his old ways of being king of the INT's he's going to have a heck of a harder time overcoming his issues than Henne will.

Never the less it's fun to watch. Haven't enjoyed watching the Fins this much since Marino was here!

You have to stop babying Henne eventually, and some time this year would be a good time. Get him Kyle Rudolph and Leonard Hankerson in the draft, let Henning retire, and get a legit offense in here.

The baby looks like he wants to learn the right way so I'm all for it. He'd been known to throw a pick or two so like I said, with an entirely new interior offensive line, and new starting Wr's, I think we will see him unleashed more and more....as the team develops some chemistry.

meh Marino stank it up every preseason....

I think the issue is more the game plan and play calling seeing as we were on the road for the first 2 games. Regardless, both teams had respectable D's. even if Buff had no O and Favre played like the old man he is.

I read through four of the seven pages, so this may have been brought up before, but isn't this the recycling of a rumor someone like Vic Carucci was trying to sell a week ago and which Armando Salguero refuted?

No. Carucci said that Parcells personally was disappointed in Henne.

Mortensen is supposedly commenting about the organization post-Parcells.

Well let's hope. I just want the offense to show up. Can't have the defense on the field all the time. That being said I do have good feeling about the Jets game. Henning always seems to call his best games against division rivals.
