First off, I think the 2nd & 20 Clemons personal foul call that led to a TD was horse crap. However I gotta give the Jets, Sanchez, their offense, and Schottenheimer credit for calling and executing a great game. It would've been nice to see some real pressure on Sanchez tonight! My question: Why were we not putting Vontae on Edwards during single coverage? Heck, even w/ safety help, why was Vontae not on Edwards all night? Don't we put our best coverage CB on their best WR? Maybe I'm missing something, which is why I'd like some input on this topic. For everyone calling for an explosive offense and more of an aerial attack..... well you got it. Does this finally put an end to the the first 2 games of bickering? My conclusion since week 1: when we're ahead, we run and attempt to conservatively control the clock. Is Henne's Job more secure (in the doubters minds) now that he threw for 363 and 2 TD's with zero turnovers heading into the final play? Personally I feel Fasano ran his route into coverage and should've broke it off at the first down marker, but I could be wrong.
Better yet why didn't we blitz more. Damn feed on Sanchez.........with a little Cameron Wake gravy, Me likes me gravy........................... you know...a few corner blitz's and some more stunts.....seemed very conservative to me
My question is why wasnt there a penalty called when brown took a clear helmet to helmet hit on a screen play the next drive?
There was a whole thread on this, with screenshots, but someone felt it was more important to merge it into the game thread then for it to stand on its own discussion.
i'm starting to think that if we dont win every game by a score of 72-0 some people are going to be posting that this guy needs to be cut or that guy needs to be fired. we lost to a good team. it happens. we made some plays, they made some plays. bottom line it was another coinflip game
i think what killed us on defense was keller in the 1st qtr. i think it changed how we were going to attack sanchez. it took away our aggressiveness
and that penalty has to be changed. there is no way clemons can stop in that situation. you can see that he even held up. if he wanted to he couldve sent the receiver to the medical ward
I hate to say it but I miss Channing Crowder. Dobbins and Carpenter look completely underwhelming and a waste of space to me.
Totally agree..... or at least put replay on plays that can change a game like that. 15 yards and a 1st is horrendous. The WR is the reason he got hit so hard. Throw the flag on him instead!!!
I think one of the biggest killers in that game was langford dropping sanchez's gimme on the jets lets offensive drive.
That was a bad break. They had to call it, but he did nothing wrong. Like you said, is he supposed to freeze in mid tackling motion?
Adding insult to injury was the fact that Harris should have been called for Helmet to Helmet, but wasn't/
good point AP.... probably similar to how Marshall changed the way Ryan's D had to play us. How sick could our offense be with a playmaking TE like that?! (no, not you, Sick). A guy can dream can't he!!? lol
So........ Sick, AP, anybody saying why Vontae wasn't on Edwards?.... (especially on the short TD pass where he was on an island)
I think nowadays a play making TE is not a luxury. I think its a huge mistake not having one and I hope that next off season its an area that gets addressed because Fasano disappears for stretches of full games and we cant have that.
i think vontae only plays CB on one side of the field. or atleast that was the case with both rookie corners last year. they each played one side and only one side. i remember sparano saying something about not giving them too much at once by making them learn both sides at the same time. for various assignments and coverages.
Thanks Raf. So I guess that means we need 2 #1 CB's? Grrrrrr. Can we just trade up for Patrick Peterson and be done with it? I'd almost be happy if he were our entire draft.
what is wrong with some of these guys ? Home opener, still a ballgame and some fans leave that is a shame, you guys dont know what you have up there, really lame
Not really. You're dictating to the offense just as much as they are dictating to you. I don't think you need two #1's necessarily, because you've already forced their best WR to a spot on the field. Even then, I don't think Edwards on Allen was a mismatch. Allen missed a tackle. It wasn't because Edwards outmatched him, it was just poor technique and focus by Jason.
Actually the receiver ran into Clemons. I tend to think that Clemons was actually bracing himself for the hit. I usually stick up for the officials, but IMO, that was a missed call. That was the only call that I really disagreed with, but hey, what can we do.
Personally, that was three passing plays too late and Henne never should have been asked to throw that ball....especially against what many consider the NFL's best defense (even without Revis). For the sake of agrument let's say that Ricky, Ronnie, Polite, and Bess all has sudden stomach cramps for those four plays and refused accept a handoff (which is the only possible excuse I can think of for Henning not calling run plays)...why did we not float a pass to the corner of the endzone for Marshall and let him jump for it? Worst case scenario it's pass interference just like NY picked up to win the game....I just do not understand the play calling even a little bit.
On the radio they kept on saying it was because of the size difference. Is JA that much bigger than VD?
IMO what you need is a play making S. It is much more difficult to game plan around them. And I don't think Allen is suddenly horrid. CBs will always have games like this b/c this is a passing league and the rules favor the offense. I've certainly seen games where Champ Bailey has been torched.
