Well, overall I think he playesd alright, out on the island a slip, a misstep in coverage becomes a huge issue, two bad plays in a whole game is not exactly terrible play. I also think the Ref's screwed the pooch on the PI call, no matter where his head was turned, a Wr initiating contact should never be a PI call.
The real Jason Allen showed up tonight. Back to special teams for you, where he's actually an ace. If he's covering Randy Moss at any point in next week's game we have no chance.
I don't know if this performance took me off the bandwagon... but I'd like to jog next to it for a little while and see what happens...
The venom towered JA is completely unwarranted. He made a coupl mistakes...dude is playing for the first time in like four years. Smith wasn't any better out there...he couldn't control Keller. JA was in position to make plays all game long. I would like to know why he falls down at least once a game.
I didn't jump on the JA Bandwagon last week, but I assumed there would be a mass exodus of the bandwagon this week. The kid is who he is. He has the athletic ability to make amazing plays here and there but his coverage skills have never had a chance to develop. He got beat out there last night, sure he fell down and there was the bogus PI call on him but you gotta give credit where credit is due and blame where it's warranted and in both cases that goes to the front 7. In the Vikes game the front 7 was on and it showed up in JA's play. Against the Jets there was no pressure ALL game. Therefore we leave Sanchez time to sit in the pocket and pick us apart. See how many CBs can hold up for 60 minutes when the defense calls zero blitzes.
I don't know man. I thought he actually played pretty bad in many respect. - He dropped 2 interceptions. One went right through his hands and hit him in the helmet. - Slipped gave up a TD. - Played with improper technique and gave up a HUGE first down. If we get a stop there the Jets have to punt and we are down 1 with the ball. PI call gave them a TD and put us down 8. If he wouldn't have got called it Jets kick a field goal and we are down 4 instead. Those are all really big plays the JA ended up on the negative side of. I am not knowledgable enough to grade JA like a coach. But these were some huge plays he failed to make. Also I never want JA to talk about how he thinks he has the best hands out of everyone in the secondary. JA should have like 6 picks, instead of 2, in 3 games if he could actually catch.
Allen played alright. Certainly not as well as the previous 2 games but I didn't see any reason to want Smith back out there. Smith covering Keller early on was a real problem. Biggest factor to me was the lack of pressure on Sanchez. He pretty much was untouched for most of the game.
WOW, Guess the blood is in the water and the sharks are coming in for a kill. I am not jumping off, I do not think his play was all that bad, and to hear people attack him is comical......
Allen slips once and now he's back to being a bust huh? Some of you fans are pathetic. Seriously. You make me sick with your bickering and how you are so quick to call for someones head after they make one mistake. Shut the hell up. Maybe if we didn't have the biggest piece of chit field in the league, he wouldn't have slipped on the sod that was put down a day before. People were slipping all over that chit all night.
I'm still on...He had a bad game...meh...hell once Jerry Porter beat Champ Baily for 3 td's...it happens... However, I would like our defense to actually match-up on personnel instead of "you be on the left side" and "you be on the right side" crap...Vontae should be on the other teams best WR at all times.
I agree with that. Sure didn't see alot of him last night. the Jets were clearly staying away from him.
I think Sparno said that Allen was a boundary corner. So it suggest they split the duties based on the position of the ball. So Vontea would always be the "field" or wide side corner. So this is probably going to be an on going issue. Because that is how the duties are split up in the defensive scheme it seems.
Doesn't that seem like bad coaching? I would think so. Let your best guy go on their best guy...etc...
I think you make a fair point, but I also think it depends on the matchups. The plus of this systems is it helps hide a weaker corner. I think if we had a 100% belief that Allen could cover the #2 WR then we could move Vontea around and do what you are saying. Just to clarify I only heard Sparano talk about Allen being a boundary corner in a press conference. I haven't watched the game to confirm this. And I already deleted the game from last night so I can't confirm this is in fact true.
Also teams, at lower levels maybe not the NFL, do this with linebackers as well. Some teams split the outside linebacker duties the same way. So you have a field backer and a boundary backer, instead of a Strong and Weak side backer. I think it just depends on what fits your players better.
LMAO. Touche! Of course if you don't give him over the top Safety help he is going to slip and give up a TD. I kid. I kid.
I watched the highlights and Allen wasn't always lined up to the boundary side of the field. They switched it up some at least. So disregard my comment about that :P
I assure all of you who are walking along side the bandwagon this week for what was a Defensive(as a whole) catastrophe, will be back on after we decimate the pats...that is, if you dont lose your seats
They exploited Allen and he covered well. Sure he made two mistakes other than that not bad. Some times ya get beat
You are leaving out the fact he didn't make two plays as well. Sparano spoke about Allen specifically, start at the 12 minute mark: http://www.miamidolphins.com/video?bcpid=585645507001&bclid=606495203001&bctid=619248995001 To be specific Sparano said Allen played two good games... but we have played 3 :P
I really do not think we stop the Pasts this week W23, their offense matches up really well with our personnel on defense, specifically their Te's and guys like Woodhead on our Lb's. What I want to see is more swarming and better tackling, YBell had a terrible game vs the Jest.
Bell is usually a much better tackler than he showed in that game. I am not worried about him too much. Yet. In general the whole defense did not tackle as well as the 1st 2 games. I imagine that will be a huge focus of practice this week for the D. Most importantly, special teams play has to improve. That unit was awful.
We usually have the pats number at home. Always give Brady a tough time, and always put up a good fight. Plus we just lost a division game to the Jets...Advantage us.
