$300?!?!?! That's almost $320 after FL taxes. I assume games will be $40-$50. This is gonna be a costly investment.... I want to try one. I don't wanna drop $400 on it. http://www.gamespot.com/news/6280013.html
Except they've found a way to always have an attractive price point... Especially with the Wii. Until this thing
The 3DS will not cost $300. Can we stop the FUD, please? The $300 price point comes from a currency conversion of the Japanese retail price. Nintendo did not announce a specific release date or price for the US and Europe, just that it would be available in March in the US and Europe. The 3DS’ price and specific release date applied to the Japanese market only. Just to keep things in perspective, the domestic Japanese prices for entertainment items are hugely inflated. DVDs cost 5,800 yen, the equivalent of $70 USD. When was the last time you paid $70 for a DVD? Yeah, exactly. Expect the 3DS to cost somewhere between $200 and $250 in the US, assuming that Nintendo keeps selling the DS Lite. If they phase the Lite out, then expect the DSi to drop down to $130, the DSi XL to drop to $150, and then the 3DS to enter in the $180-$230 range. I will eat Boomer’s kids if the 3DS costs anywhere near $300 in the US. Edit: P.S., Nintendo isn’t Apple. Different companies, different business models (Nintendo is far more prolific in software sales and could get by if their hardware factories suddenly went offline), different markets.
Yep. My guess is that it's far more likely to be $199 than $249. Either way, no way I won't have one on launch day.
I was skeptical of the 3DS in general, but with the announcement of Megaman Legends 3 and Metal Gear Solid, I’m sold. The question is whether I get one at launch or wait for the inevitable redesign.
this is by far the worst part. The 3ds looks like its purposely a little bigger than it should be. You can just 'tell' it could have, and probably already has been, slimmed down to a lite version. I'm still getting it. I said about a month ago that it will be $250 when it reaches stateside and this Japanese price seems to coincide with that perfectly. What i'm far more afraid of is the release date. Im thinking holiday next year. I dont see any financial reason for this to come out in the same quarter of pokemon.
Nintendo already confirmed the Japanese release date as February 26 and the US release date as some time in March 2011. Mid to late Q1 is always a popular time for the gaming industry to release stuff it can’t quite fit into the Q4 Christmas rush. Resident Evil 2 kicked that off by coming out in February rather than, say, November. Basically, we get Duke Nukem Forever on February 1, and then a month later we get the 3DS.
The Virtual Boy wasn’t all THAT bad… except for the whole “red vector outline” thing. To this day I think the Wario game that came out for the Virtual Boy was pretty good.
I tried out the demo kiosk in a Toys R Us once for about 45 minutes. That Wario game was addicting. Didn’t have any issues with comfort or sickness like some people reportedly went through. But hey, now we have 3D done semi-right in the 3DS. No need for the Virtual Boy!
