    No.

If it was the "ring of interesting" then yes.

Ricky has been a fine player for us. Was once elite, now is a solid contributor and teammate.

But for 2004 alone, I'd keep him out. Not to mention the other time he's missed due to suspension.

If Ricky has been actively on the team all this time, and had many more 1,000-plus years and was a dominant back, then sure. But right now, as much as I appreciate him on the team, and have enjoyed him, he's not quite on par w/ the people already on the ring!

I love Ricky but I don't know if he deserves to be in the ring. If we win a championship while he's with us and he passes Csonka's record I think he gets in. If he passes the record and we don't win I think he'll end up not getting in. He needs 854 yards to pass Csonka at this moment (maybe thats why he's getting as many carries as Ronnie? lol). I think that is the question though If he passes the record is that enough to get him in?

    Maybe.
    * He was the NFL rushing leader in 2002 (how many Dolphins have had this honor?)
    * He is 2nd on our team's all-time top rushers
    * How many skill position players have we had that are more deserving but haven't been put up there yet, anyway?
    * In this era of free agency you'd be hard-pressed to find a skill-position player who spends his entire career with any one team anyway, so yardage totals are less important

    Maybe not.
    * Large absences during his "time" here. 3 years of no action, in total. Hurt our planning and personnel moves for awhile
    * untimely retirement contributed to (BUT DID NOT CAUSE) THE worst year in franchise history
    * Ronnie is nipping at his heels in total yardage & TDs on our historical record books, so are Ricky's totals here that special?
    * He isn't leading the team in any statistical category

I'm on the fence. It will bear out more in the coming years. Ronnie is on track to pass all of Ricky's stats with us, so assuming we keep Ronnie I would nominate him over Ricky 10+ years from now.

I think it's yet to be determined to be honest. If it were today I'm not sure whether he should be. That being said, look at his rushing stats as a dolphin and where they rank all time in dolphins history. By the end of this season those stats will only be further improved.

He killed his legacy already. There is no room for him in the ring. I think it would be disrespectful for those who truely deserve to be up there. Was he great? Yes. Could he have been a franchise player? Yes. Was he a franchise player? No.

For what we gave to get him and what we got in return was wrong on so many levels. I think he fills a need and I believe we are lucky to have the tandem we have, but absolutely he does not belong in the Dolphin ROH

I'm shocked anyone let alone this many voted yes.

The guy does not belong in the ring of honor at all.
He's been great at times but inconsistent and flighty more than not.
He deserves notoriety for a few great seasons but the baggage and other seasons of low performance definitely push him from consideration for Ring of Honor status.

I voted "No". IMO the ring of honor should be reserved for players who had huge positive effects on the franchise. RWs will probably finish second overall in rushing yards. He'll have had one great season. He'll also have been part of largely forgettable and poor achieving teams and will be notable for having quit on his team (some feel it was justified others including RW feel it was wrong). I don't see any huge positive impact here.

I think Csonk needs to be taken down because he left us Hi-N-Dry for the Wold Football League. If he hadn't bailed, how many more championships could we have won. To think he left for more Money....:pity:

I voted no. I like Ricky, hell I usually wear his jersey every sunday because I prefer to "preserve" my Marino one. However, I just dont think he's done enough deserving of it. Had he not had his troubles, and his time away from the game and played straight through with us, thinking of what his numbers might be now if that were the case, then maybe. But what he's done now, I dont know if its enough.

First, this is duplicate thread...there was a poll a month or so ago on this very subject...I'm too lazy to look it up though...

He may pass Csonka, he has a Fins single season record for yardage, however, he does not deserve to be in the ring of honor. He disgraced the Fins, the NFL and himself when he continually failed drug tests and then retired to avoid another suspension. Even if you just look at the season he 'retired' just prior to the seasons' start. Left the team in a lurch they never recovered from.... Moreso than what he did to the fans, but what he did to his team mates and the organization at that time is simply not forgivable.

That said, all the credit in the world goes to him for his 'recovery' from the drugs and whatever else was holding him back and how he's revived his career since then. I'm happy for him. A man or woman finally seeing the light and doing something positive with their lives is what life is about. But that does not give him a mulligan for his past discrepancies.

    No way IMO.

Right now Jake Long is the only active player I see with real chances to be there someday, if he keeps his all-pro play a few more seasons of course.

Henne and Marshall could also make it, but the key is what the team accomplishes during their tenure.

Ricky needs to finish strong. The fandom relies heavily on short term memory, and needs persistent reminding of why he deserves to be, if he has any interest to be.

Good point. Csonka bailed on us for the WFL and more money, and Ricky bailed on us for personal reasons, probably only totally known to Ricky. Csonka came back for one final season, but he was a shell of the great FB from the early 70s. Ricky came back and most would say he is a shell of the 2002/03 version of Ricky. If Ricky breaks the team rushing record and we went to the Super Bowl with him here, then I could see him being considered. I really cannot blame either one for leaving when they did. Robbie was a notorious tightwad when it came to paying players and Csonka wanted to better support his family, and Ricky was not given enough offensive support and being physically worn out by the inept bumbling excuse for an NFL head coach named Wannstedt.

I don't see how 2 seasons of being great/good and a bunch of decent/ok seasons gives you the right to be in the ring of honor. If the ring was earned by potential he'd be near the top of the list of guys that belong there but his production isn't there. I honestly don't see the argument in his favor, being a fan favorite isn't enough his production isn't near enough to be in the ring of honor. I can forgive him quitting on the team he's been a team guy here but his production isn't enough. Saying he's 2nd in yards amongst our RBs historically isn't saying that much honestly.

if jason taylor after going to the jets gets to be on it and brett farve after all his drama can still get into the packers ring of honor then i say why not to ricky.i don't blame ricky for 04.i blame wanstache.other players have done alot worse and still kept their "legacy"in tack enough to get into thier teams roh..besides it's the roh not the perfect gentlemens club.

JT was a borderline HOF player for us. Favre was HOF player for GB. What has RW been for Miami? He had one great year, one good year and then hung around. Players with a great legacy can leave and preserve their great legacy. Players with a so-so don't get their legacy bumped up to great b/c they also brought turmoil.

  34. Larryfinfan

The only argument with that is that they were different times in the NFL. At that time, there was no FA or anything that allowed a guy to move from team to team other than the drafting teams discretion. Csonka, Kiick and Warfield moved on for serious money at that time. Marshall did just the same to the Bronks....does that make him not a candidate for either their or our ring of honor ?? With what you are saying, Marshall, no matter what he does for us, should never be in a ring of honor....

It's just that the times are different. Jumping to the USFL was the ONLY option star players had at that time....Naturally I was as disappointed as everyone was in 75, but is it much different than Marshall moving to us, Dansby coming here ??

How can you put someone in the Ring of HONOR when they quit on the team?

  36. Larryfinfan

    Larryfinfan 17-0...Priceless Club Member

If it were simply a matter of arrests (assuming not serious issues like murder or whatever) for his mary jane use, I'd agree but his issues went way deeper than that. He not only couldn't control his drug use, even after getting multiple warnings, he then quit on the team a week before TC began, where the team has little options for replacing him. What he did to his team mates and the Fins organization is not acceptable for anyone, particularly a pro athlete who got many chances to correct or at least find a way around his issues with the drugs. Then to come back finally, begin his return to the game and get hit yet again ?? Unacceptable...

YESSSSSSSSSSSSSS, come on people.....you are not being asked does he belong in the NFL Hall of Fame?, which he doesn't belong, but he very much deserves to be in the Phin's Ring of Honor. Only Csonka has had a better career running the ball. You people who are saying, "No," are letting Ricky's pot smoking/personality cloud your judgment. He's NEVER quit on this team while on the field and that's all I care about.

I'm not saying that at all. I'm fine with Csonka being in the Ring of Honor and if Ricky ends up with the same or better production I got no problem with him being in there. So why would I not want Marshall in there some day?
