The Dolphins must win this upcoming game. That lost against Jets hurted the Fins. Both side, offense and defense, need to shape up for this game.

How do you know the raiders are inferior?

And how many of those teams are looking at us on the schedule and writing W's?

Many of the kids here won't get that. The last time somebody made that reference here (or the old site), several young-uns posted "the Germans never bombed Pearl Harbor!!!"

Back to the thread though. I think there are a variety of definitions being used for "must win". IMO "must win" means you win or you have zero chance to win the SB. If it doesn't eliminate that possibility than at most its an important game.

To me every game is a must win.
In my long, long years as a Dolphin fan never once have I ever caught myself saying before a game "We can lose this one and still be alright"
I am however guilty of saying " We won't win this one" which I think will be the case on Monday night.
    I sure hope I'm wrong.

The Bears are garbage, Cutler actively tries to lose games for them.

raiders defense has given up touchdowns in 7 of 8 red zone appearances. the offense is lead by gradkowski. the offensive line is average at best. the receivers are actually alright. DHB is having a season similar to Ginn's second year. murphy is playing well and zach miller is very good. but having said that their offense is horrible in the red zone as well just like their defensive counterparts. they would have to improve dramatically to be our equals

only team that worries me a bit in that list is pittsburgh. although big ben's first game back might make for some turnovers

I dunno man did you see Cutler on Monday night. Martz has done a good job with him and Cutler has a lot of ability. That could prove to be a surprise team.

I'm more worried about Miami dropping the INTs against Chicago than I am about Cutler playing so well that he won't throw them to us.

No kidding. definitely will not visit the main forum if we lose, at least until a few days before the Green Bay game. if lose to New England, I will be stunned for at least a week with no desire to argue the cynics anymore.

The Ravens are our thermometer game for 2010, it is in Baltimore and they out physical us when we play them, if we are to go anywhere we have to punch them in the mouth and keep on punching.

That is when we have arrived, and Green Bay in Green Bay in late October is an insanely difficult game for us.

You mean the 6 INT's Cutler threw only to have nearly all of them negated by penalty? Yeah, I saw that. He was horrible in that game.

we play them week 6 in 17 days. their offensive ine got old and poor in a hurry. granted skill position wise they are a worry but we should have a big advantage on the lines

between baltimore and cinci i expect a split. dont care which we beat but we cant lose both

I think we handle cinci, I've seen two of their games and Carson Palmer wished he had Chad Pennington's arm strength.

Ravens are a whole different story.

The ravens are a hard team to figure out. Flacco seems to be regressing a bit then will turn it around for a game. Their defense is solid but Henne looked very good against a pretty good Jests defense. I think the phins will beat Cincinnati in a very low scoring game. But as for the Patriots this is a must win. But in order to win we HAVE to get pressure on Brady.

I will be beyond shocked if you go to Baltimore and beat the Ravens. The pressure they bring is nothing like what you saw out of the Jets. I think The Ravens' defense is much better. Ray Lewis is playing lights out football. Be happy to come out of that one with no one injured.

For People who bought into what our owner was talking about earlier in the year probably.. this year is about watching and waiting to see if the QB is in place for the team to go to the next level...next year is my personnel target for expectation's, we need another draft and free agency period to properly build..

If we compete for a playoff spot and we confirm our QB's progression {which is steady play like last year, minus a few bonehead mistakes} at the end of the year, than it's on.

Is anyone else freakin out that we have only 3 real defensive lineman going into this game?... cause that is downright scary.

Since you want to write off NE for the division, then the goal would be to finish either ahead of the Jets or tied with a tiebreaker advantage (see - I be a smart Jets fan ;) ) So the first thing I would look at is what common games do you play with the Jets and then find teams that you will beat that the Jets won't (and vice versa). Below are the non-divisional common games. The first letter after the team is where Miami plays them and the second is where the Jets play them.

    Green Bay A, H
    Pitt H, A
    Balt A, H
    Bengals A, H
    Bears H, A
    Browns H, A
    Detroit H, A
    Minn A, H

Anything jump off the page at you? Here is what I see:

Green Bay - I highly doubt you will beat them on the road while the Jets lose to them at home. If anything, I think we both lose to them.

Pitt - See Green Bay, except home field helps a tiny bit for you. But I see a loss for each of us.

Balt - Jets already lost. I already posted that I would be floored if you beat them in their house.

Bengals - I see us both beating them. Tiny advantage Jets for getting them at home.

Bears - See Bengals. But this could be a game you *could* pick up.

    Browns - Wins for each

    Detroit - See Browns

Minn - you already beat them, which makes this a big game for the Jets. I think the Jets will win, but I could make an argument that they won't. Definitely not a gimme for the Jets.

So this leaves us with the two non common games:

    Miami home against Tenn
    Miami at Oak

    NY at Denver
    NY home against Houston

Advantage Miami. I think you could pick up a game there for sure. The Jets have a greater chance of losing in Denver than you do in Oakland and Houston is better than Tennessee.

As far as the division goes, the baseline should be splits for NE, MIA and NY and sweeps against Buffalo. A win for the Jets this weekend all but guarantees them of meeting that goal. It also allows for the possibility of exceeding it (by beating MIA or NE in the second meeting). A loss for Miami means that you would need to beat NE and NY on the road and Buffalo at home. So for that reason, I see this being as close to a must win game as it can get for you.

Now if you lose, it's not the end of the world. You could beat the Ravens, whom the Jets have already lost to. The Jets could lose to Minn, who you have already beat. And there are those non-common games where you have a decent shot to pick one up on the Jets.

I do not mean this to be an inflamatory post, so please don't take it that way. And with only 3 weeks of the season played and unknown factors such as future injuries (or in the case of the Jets - suspensions!), this is really just a bunch of crytal ball crap :) Peace.

what iam most afraid of? is losing at home again...our fanbase has been getting crushed at home the past 3 years...

I know we have to a have a complete team before we realistically can trust our team at home, but man, suffering another big home loss is really tough..

If iam coach, and if there is such a thing as going the extra mile, then Iam going the extra mile to win this game, for more reason's than just the number in the win column.

nice work. i think you value baltimore and green bay too high. both could beat us but we match up well with them. i think you also match up well with green bay. green bay is one dimensional on offense and their offensive line is falling apart. its the kind of team that has trouble with teams like ours. as for baltimore you lost by one point. once again we are the same types of teams. i see that as another squeaker, a coin flip game

I guess my point is this: I think the Jets and the Dolphins are very close in terms of where they are right now. Being a Jets fan, of course I think the Jets are slightly better. But I can not make a convincing argument where I can say we will beat Team X and you won't and vice versa. I really think at the end of the day we will have the same record outside of our divisional games, which makes the divisional games so darn important.

Lastly, as as close as the score was against Baltimore, they really kicked our *** from top to bottom.

i can tell you right now when we play baltimore, cincy, pittsburgh and tennessee we will go into it playing a field position game. low scoring in all probability and looking for the big plays here and there when they stack the box but overall playing smashmouth 3 yd a carry type of games. you will too i bet

As bad as Buffalo has been in recent memory, the only year that they have lost EVERY division game was in 2008. I do not see all three teams getting out of Buffalo unscathed. Heck, you guys lost to them at HOME last year.

The Browns are 0-3 so this is a pretty good assumption based upon that record but the Browns are not the chumps they used to be.

Did the Jets amass 173 rushing yards against the Ravens? The Browns just did it last week. Anytime you can rush for that many yards against a top ten defense in the league, you are not a chump that teams can chalk up a win before they arrive.

    Scores?

    Browns 14-17 TB

    Browns 14-16 Chiefs

    Browns 17-24 Ravens

Sanchez played his worst game as a pro (5 int's) in that game. I also think that the Jets are a better team then they were last year and it took Buffalo a 5 int game by Sanchez to beat them in overtime.

I think Buffalo is terrible, but if you want to give them a split with a divisional foe, then make it Miami :tongue2:

I still don't trust Sanchez to play well week in and week out. He could have easily had three picks against Miami with passes that hit Dolphins in the hands. He also threw other passes that were risky. Sanchez was fortunate that the Dolphins failed to capitalize. I'm not taking anything away from the Jets, who deserved to win b/c they made more plays. But I am saying that Sanchez was a player who was prone to extremely poor games last year and while he has clearly improved, odds are that he'll have some extremely poor games this year. He can't rely on every team dropping three INTs per week.

If you want to count that one pass from 3 feet away that he threw into that DLineman as a gimme, them God bless you. Terrible pass? Yes. Gimme INT by a DLineman? No way. Guy probably has touched a football 5 times as a pro ;) The other "near" int's were not balls that bounced off your guy's chests. One was a ball that the Jets receiver should have caught.

I am not completely sold on him either, but ever since the coaching staff has let him actually play QB this year, he's done very well. Go watch the replay of his 2nd TD to Keller. Perfect throw. In fact, he made a bunch of great throws Sunday night.

Sanchez was a first year rookie last year, after starting how many games in college? I expected him to struggle at times last year. I am sure he will throw up some stinkers this year, but I'd shocked if he has another game like he did against Buffalo last year.

I have to admit Sanchez has suprised me. I really didn't think he had what it takes to be a QB in the NFL and I'm still not sold. But I have been really impressed with his performances in the last 2 weeks.
