Well, TB's got its own version of a tailspin going on......love it when two teams want to go backwards at the same time.

3 games remain, who gets luckier...Yanks or Rays????

Yeah I hope NY gets the Wild Card, against Minny....This team is better suited to take one of the first 2, rather than defend the first 2 at home....

I agree plus home field advantage in baseball is a little bit overrated. I do think visiting teams playing at the old Yankee Stadium or Fenway Park with 'real' fans there and not the bandwagoners could freak visiting players out but the old Yankee Stadium is gone and so are the real fans that get loud and really cheer on their team at the new YS and at Fenway.

Wow, TB in a rut.....drops 2nd straight to KC playing the role of spoiler...2 games remain.

Yanks have double header based on rain out in BOS with phantom 1/2 game lead.

Both tied for Most Wins in AL @94 with MIN @ 93, but TOR is also spoiling MIN dreams.

Very interesting two days to go....and see who hosts TEX, and who travels to MIN or do both AL team slump-in and both travel?? that would be strange.

Ahhhhh goood ole Red Sox......Why is the doubleheader in Boston at 4 and 9PM??!?! Why not 1 and 4 or 1 and 7?? but 4 and 9PM.....??? 9PM east coast time???? Can be only 2 reasons....Fenways wants the beer money, or they are busting balls....I think it is both...

But they missed out on an AWESOME day to play ball......61 not a cloud in the sky, perfect fall baseball weather......too bad...

Don't blame the Red Sox, blame FOX. FOX controls the rights to the 4 pm Sox/Yankee game, therefore they can't play a game before it in case it goes long and the 2nd game doesn't start at 4, FOX doesn't want to delay the start of the game on TV as it would be bad for business. It has nothing to do with the Sox busting balls, I highly doubt any player/coach/fan is happy about a 9pm start time.

So who has the better record head to head Yankees or the Rays?? you know this is going to be a tie....to lazy to look it up....

It has to be the Rays, Yanks didnt play that great against them this year..

I agree completely. Who cares about a meaningless Sox/Yankee game. I'd rather watch the Padres/Giants game instead.

Rays have a better record, hence if the two teams finish in a tie the Rays would win the division.

Yanks are playing so bad lately....thats whats taken the fun out of it.....4 for 35 with runners in scoring position in the doubleheader.....Pitchers walking the bases loaded and throwing wild pitches to give up runs....horrible.

Not only that but those Red Sox line ups were awful, especially in the 2nd game. Burnett should have steamrolled them. I know that both Pettitte and Burnett struck out a bunch of guys but both didn't look good or really pitch good even if there stat lines looked ok. And I think Nova's performance last night is going to keep him off the playoff roster, he just can't pitch with runners on.

The Phillies are the best team on paper right now.....I just can't see anyone beating them unless they were to really go cold. But that's what often happens in baseball. The hot team often wins it all come playoff time. It just seems like neither NY or Tampa really have played well. I think it will be a Minny-Philly World Series.

I honestly dont think they wanted the division, and I'm not saying they threw games, but I am also saying they didnt try that hard either...no stolen bases yesterday?? gardner was on 2X.....ehh it is the second season now...time to roll....I am interested to see if they keep AJ off the roster...

shame on the Phillies if they dont win it all....no way the Twins get by NY, and TB with that pitching staff and no Morneau....

Well it was clear the Yankees weren't exactly in panic mode playing the last 3 weeks. I'm sure they would have liked to have home field advantage but not at the expense of keeping players fresh for October.

A.J. Burnett will not make a start for the Yankees in the ALDS.

No surprise here. CC Sabathia will start Game 1 against the Twins, Andy Pettitte will handle Game 2 and Phil Hughes will take the hill for Game 3. Sabathia, one of baseball's great workhorses, is expected to start on short rest if a Game 4 is required. Burnett, 33, went 10-15 with a poor 5.26 ERA and 1.51 WHIP over 33 outings during the regular season.

Wow, I really didnt think Hughes would sniff a Playoff start.....I stand corrected....never would have predicted the demise of AJ and while I felt Vazquez was and is a mistake, I still didnt think the innings would work to Hughes' benefit.

Interesting rotation....not sure about Andy's stamina and health...but CC needs help to carry the load.

Yes I will be wearing pinstripes this playoffs but they will be for the Twins. Honestly I don't care who wins, I just want to see good baseball. I honestly think a Yankees/Rays 7 game series has potential to be very good, even with big weakness both the teams have, ditto for Phillies/Giants. I think at the beginning of the year I picked a Braves/Red Sox WS so I'll stick with rooting for the Braves but I can't see anyone beating Philly.

Just as long as the Yankees don't win because I don't want to have to read AdamPrez brag again, haha.

    Awesome. Just fantastic.

Like Ray, I'm just rooting for good baseball. But I'd be lying if I said I wasn't rooting for a Yankees-Rays ALCS. Red Sox fan or not, that would be a tremendous matchup. So much talent on both clubs.

That said, I'd be rooting against the winner in a WS matchup with the fury of one-thousand suns.

noooooooooooooooooooooo!!!!! I knew thats why he looks bad against the Sox!!!

"Growing up in California, thanks to his family’s Rhode Island roots, Hughes was a Red Sox fan. He might have even been a bigger fan than his dad was at the same age."

Disappointed in CC. He didn't pitch like an ace. That kind of performance doesn't get it done against Lee or Halliday.

I'll take the win, but CC needs to pitch better than that.

CC always pitches like poo after long rest it seems....no worries he will be fine....and Prez we didnt escape bro..it was a classic Yankees playoff baseball, bleed u, bleed u, until you cant take it anymore and sufficate...

If the series was over I would say I feel bad for Liriano, you see him in the dugout after he got yanked, dejected like "I just pitched my brains off in the playoffs, and I am leaving this game a loser".....

Yeah, not really worried about CC. coming off 8 Days rest its very understandable about control issues (Posada passed ball included since thats what he does).

But was very happy we actually had clutch at bats (Grandyman came through HUGE). And of course Tex, but two out base hits and those that produce runs are the difference come playoff time. And Mo, still amazing to watch in these situations. Hope we dont need many of these 4 out saves. Taking the home field back is key.

That said, frankly still ticked that these UMPs can blow calls and not solve it on the field in a group, or be allowed to go to replay to make sure on key outs. That last out could have come back to bite us, I was expecting it. Two years in a row on horrible calls that need to be corrected and made right. Two years in a row and Umps are horrible with missing calls. Come on Baseball do the right thing.

First inning of the Rays game Home Plate Ump missed a key pitch claiming it hit Pena's bat...not even close per replays, that changed a bases loaded 1out situation and what should have been a 3-1 count into a 2-2 count and Lee's next pitch was a Ball - he struck out Pena on 3-2 pitch. But if correctly called, it would have walked in a run, and changed that game right off the get go. Shame this is happening.

blame it on the purist!!!!!!! I agree though why not use technology....

BDH dont forget Posada's 2 hits, pretty big...and the strike zone was tight last night, like bonefide strikes getting called balls, but I will say he was tight for both teams so thats all you can ask for....

As for Mo, you gotta do the multi-inning save if you have a chance to steal that first game, if it was tied I dont think you see him, but can you imagine if Girardi left Wood in there, and he gives it up?? They would be killing him today....As well, I would expect a 4 out save again today, the possibility of going back to NY up 2, is to great....

funny thing, I am drinking some beers with my Sox buddies watching the game last night, and I'm like on my "Yanks have no clutch hitting stick" and when Grandy comes up I go, as my Sox friends are all like doom and gloom of the impending yankee comback and win....I go.."Guys relax Damon and Matsui arent suddenly appearing from the dugout, its Granderson!!" he pops one of the wall, Liriano gets pulled and they take the lead....they wanted to kill me...
