Only because I'm a man of my word.... I think this Henne VS Sanchez debate is coming to a swift and decisive hault. Henne looks like the pro version of Jacory Harris out there tonight. I hate my life.
I'd consider Max Hall and Shaun Hill over Chad Henne to be honest. EDIT: Not being honest.... let me say that before the Henne Apologists jump in.
too early. henne stunk tonight and sanchez will have games like this this year guaranteed. both are playing their second yrs (yeah i know henne was on the bench his first but you only learn by playing) next year is when we can definitively say which will be better. my money is still on henne. he just needs to speed up his decision making process. he still hasnt seen every defense he's going to see and when he sees something he isnt expecting he doesnt know what to do. that will pass
my brother-in-law said it best (he went to Michigan when Henne was there), born and raised in Michigan, fan all that...I asked him about Henne and he said verbatim...."he has a big arm, but cant seem to get over the stupid mistakes, the stupid TO's that have you sratching your head".......ohhhhh brother-in-law how true you are....
If Miami can hang onto the ball, Sanchez turns it over three times last week. He looks pretty good, but he's got quite a supporting cast. The media is building him up a bit more than they should IMO.
The jets as a team are making it easy for Sanchez. We are not doing the same for Henne. Given what hes had to deal with, Hennes still doing a good job out there. You can't win football games if you can't punt the ball on 4th down.
Come on man, if Henne played like Sanchez, we and the media would be building him up. Sanchez has played 3 mediocre/bad teams and he's played lights out, as he should. That alone puts him in a different league than Henne.
Three times is reaching. The only pick that wouldn't have been a great highlight reel play was Langfords and that was awful. Also, nearly every QB has "near picks" in a game. To bring them up is pretty pointless. Supporting cast helps him a ton though.
If "ifs" were a fifth we'd all be drunk. One glaring difference between the Phins, Jets and Pats is we aren't making the big game turning plays we should and they are.
Maybe Henne is great and horrible alternately. And Sanchez the same. And neither sees the Hall of Fame?
The problem with Henne is his pocket awareness and inability to scan the field. He very rarely takes his eyes off 1 side. I don't know if Henne can ever be a top 10 QB some of the passes he made were very wtf are you thinking. Its obvious we are pretenders this year we show flashes on both sides but no consistency plus our ST unit is atrocious. Damn I was somewhat optimistic before the game tonight but it pretty much confirms my nightmares that we are a 6-10 7-9 team.
You said it yourself. 3 TEAMS. I'm not anointing any 2nd year QB anything based on ONLY 3 games after a poor-mediocre rookie season. Are you serious about the media comment? Do you even know the city that Sanchez plays in and the ramifications of such? CMON now. You can't possibly compare NY City to Miami. NY will ALWAYS get the attention. That's why it's NY.
If Henne played as well as Sanchez, he would be built up. Especially after two primetime games. Unfortunately, Henne played like Henne. And I'm not comparing media markets. I'm saying Henne would be built up.
You know damn well if Ninkovich was still on our team, in the same situation, he'd have dropped those two picks tonight. Just like last week, when we dropped 3 picks against Sanchez. See what I'm getting at? So far Sanchez has had some pretty lucky bounces. Luck runs out though.
Atleast you called him a Pro. That's better then what I anticpate reading and hearing on 790 tommorrow
I hope it does run out. I hope he falls flat on his face and is benched in favor of Brunell or Klemons.
I dont know, he completed 74% of his passes last night. The first INT, boneheaded, but really give the defense credit, they adjusted to what we did on the first two drives. The second INT, the pats read that rollout the whole way, someone was unblocked and about to steamroll Henne and he forced it. Mistakes happen. The third one, thats 110% on Brandon Marshall. You can't just stop on your route like that for no reason. I really don't think it was all that bad really. 74% completion percentage, 2 TD's, IMO 2INT's. In your 17th game as a starter. Heaven forbid a QB make a few mistakes along the way as he develops and grows as a player. It happens.
Henne has things to work on to become an elite quarterback, but pointing to his experience is a crutch. He was a 4 year starter in college, sat for a year in the NFL, and started 13 NFL games last year under his belt. You really can't have much more experience than that before being handed the reins. He's played pretty well the last two games, though his INT's killed us in the first half. Special teams obliterated us in the second half. Meh.
It wasn't all that bad, though the 2nd pick was an awful decision. He still had drives where he shredded the defense and moved the ball. Knee jerk reactions involving QB's are very common, especially after a bad loss. Henne has made significant strides since last season.
I think both were bad decisions on his part really. The first one to Marshall, everyone in the stadium knew that ball was going to Marshall. Henne must not have seen Ninkovic underneath, or something, I don't know. No explanation there, it was a poor decision all the way. That second INT, normally we see Henne throw that ball away when he's out of the pocket and about to get drilled. No idea why he tried to force it. I don't know if maybe the way he was "shredding" the pats D early led to him being maybe a bit overconfident, and he thought he could force it. No idea. The third, well its quite obvious Marshall just stopped on that route. Marshall had the right idea seeing as if he stops there, he's wide open, but when your QB is expecting you to continue with that route as the play is designed and you stop as he's throwing, nothing good is going to happen there. Ever. I don't put that one on Henne at all. But you can't deny the fact that he still overall played well. Anytime you complete 74% of your passes you did alot of things right. Young QB's are going to make mistakes. People have to remember, 17th start. He's been babied in all of them, now we're turning him loose a bit, he's going to make mistakes. It's the only way players learn. I'm not denying those were two bad decisions. Agreed, the progess is there, he's making plays, making some nice touch passes, in particular one he threw to brown that he lobbed up over a defender who was blitzing and dropped it right into ronnie. Mistakes are going to be made, he's inexperienced. Only way to learn, is by being out there on the field, making plays, making mistakes, then being properly coached by the QB coach, the OC, the HC, and Pennington on how to learn from it, and avoid it in the future. Thats how players develop.
henne def stunk but he didnt cost us the game. special teams did. the 1 int to cobbs was piss poor decision, the 1st was a timing route henne didnt see lb, yes should have, but type of mistake young qbs make. tne last was a desparation force pass. clearly jjets r fartherahead as a team, sanchez may just be better. but sanchez is getting help to aka spec teams r really good, defense very good,. henne has what it takes but has to take that step, he hasnt yet. BUT wedidnt lose cause of henne, penny wasnt overcoming the spec teams gaffes
This is definitely true. Sanchez also has the luxury of having a defense who can compensate for his mistakes. He can take more chances, and he and the Jets have capitalized. When you have a solid defense and great special teams (****ing Westhoff) it improves other areas, like field position.
exactly henne 2 ints lead 2 6 points. the last was desparation pass where marshall ran wrong route or henne misread route, but was a 3 step throw to a spot based on route. the time for careful was over, had to wing it. spec teams doesnt have to win it, but it cannot put the teabehind the 8 ball like it did.
Henne didn't lose this game... Special Teams attributed to 17 points going up on the board. Henne's first 2 ints attributed to 6. When I stopped watching the game at 10 minutes remaining, the score was 34-14... 17 of those points came from special teams. Erase that, and its 17-14. Henne wasn't amazing, but he wasn't awful either. He was mediocre, about what everyone has expected from him for the most part. As sick as these two weeks are going to make me, I'm glad this happened before a bye week. Fix the ST unit (Fire the coach, find people off waivers, I do_not_care), and we can be competitive again.
I said it in the offseason..... There was a reason Sanchez was drafted #5 overall and Henne was drafted in the second round. Sanchez is far superior talent-wise. All that was missing was the experience. And he's growing up faster than anyone could have imagined. Sanchez has the ceiling of an elite NFL quarterback. Henne has the ceiling of a good starter.
This is complete and utter bull****. The Jets have better receivers and great TE, a better Line, a better D and better Special Teams. THAT is the reason Sanchez is having success. He'd have to be the worst QB in the NFL to not be having success right now.
Is Henne going to be the guy who turns the corner? Will he be Drew Brees, or will he be among the many QBs who showed promise but never turned the corner
Sanchez is making smart decisions. You are not giving Sanchez credit at all and that's not fair. 0 interceptions through 4 games is GREAT.
Again, look at his team and the talent around him. He has all day to find an open receiver. All he has to do is not **** up. If you give ANY QB in this league that much time, eventually a Braylon Edwards and/or a Dustin Keller are going to be open. We've yet to see Sanchez come from behind by any considerable margin. Against Miami, he got his first ever 4th Quarter come from behind win. Henne did that in his second start. So Congrats.
No doubt Sanchez is playing phenomenal right now. He also has 3 very good things going for him that we've yet to see any consistensy of in Miami. Sanchez has an awesome defense to fall back on. Our defense seems to be touch and go. The running game the NYJ have right now is crazy good...and it seems like we abandon ours or call wildcat runs at bad times. The Jets OC is using play-action and red-zone play calling really well. Our OC takes naps. God it hurts to give credit there, but that's pretty much how it's shaping up right now.
Of course. This doesn't bother me. You're pretty much saying Sanchez sucks whether he throws INTs or not. He is a complete different player than last year. He is the leader of the team. I don't care what you or anyone says. Sanchez has been making great passes and passes where only the receiver can catch them. Henne has started four years at Michigan. Sanchez started one year at SC. Henne has way more starts under his belt than Sanchez in the NFL and Sanchez looks better than him without question.
