we struggled a bit.... but so did NE..... and despite our struggles, we had the lead before Special Teams screwed the pooch. Henne's points from TD passes also were greater than NE points scored off his INTs.

The wildcat on 3rd and 6 was friggin horrendous I agree.

But you assume that the rest of the plays play out exactly the same?

If we score on those two possesions where Henne threw picks, then we most likely go into protect mode and run more often, which was working early and perhaps we don't have a punt blocked, a field goal blocked, etc.

Point being, you can only judge what actually happened, and what actually happened was a breakdown across the board. Special teams **** the bed badly tonight, true, and no one discounts that. But where is the team that came back from 2 scores last week? Where is the defense that actually STOPPED offenses and forced turnovers?

We are fool's gold currently. Henne is good to make two to four bad decisions a game which we could live with if ouy defense and sepcial teams were lights out...but clearly they aren't, which means we can't trust Henne like we want to, which leads to the ten yards and under passing, more running and a ball control offense that leads to low scoring points and gives us even less margin for error. Like I said, the problems are not independant of each other and compound on themselves exponentially really.

Okay maybe not, but I wanted to use exponentially in a sentence tonight...

Most teams do. If the team doesn't lead the NFL in offense that doesn't mean you blow it all up or that it all sucks. Our offense is fine. We'd be 3-1 if it wasn't for special teams, probably 4-0. If our offense was better tonight, we still would have lost.

Our offense is reactionary though, we never come out and try and dominate, we just come out and try not to lose the game, get a 7 or 3 point lead and start trying to run the clock out with running plays and wildcat. The only way this team can make a satement is to come out and beat teams like the Jets and the Pats but they just can't do it because the coaching staff sends a message that they don't have enough faith in the team to actually go out and win the games...they only have enough faith in them to not lose the games.

That get's you wins against the teams you should beat but doesn't inspire enough confidence in your players to go out and win the tough games we have some good players and we have the capability of winning these games against the Jets and the Pats we've all seen it but the mental part of it just isn't there and it'sall due to coaching.

It's like the kid who's parents tell him his whole life he's never going to amount to anything, well that kid generally only amounts to something in the movies because in real life nine times out of ten your going to be what you think you are and that's what you've been told your whole life you are...Coaches are alot like parents and it doesn't seem like we have any that inspire confidence in this team.

Right, and what actually happened was two picks kept us at 7-6, without projecting or speculating. 21 pts by special teams is what actually happened. That had waaaaaaaaaaaaaay more affect than anything.

agreed. You have to base your opinions on what actually happened on the field, not by what could have been. Henne could have put us in a better position to win, but he did not by any means lose this game.

Agreed but technically, you can only pin 14 on the special teams then since the defense technically gave up one of those TD's. But we pretty much agree about the ST's. It was awful and Bonamego needs to be fired, probably tomorrow, in order to salvage any type of confidence in the staff from not only the fans, but the players as well.

My point is that the offense wasn't very good tonight, and neither was the defense. All three units sucked out loud and certainly deserve scrutiny as well. Henne can't throw three picks. The defense can't let New England drive down the field whenever they feel like it and you can't go more than two games without triggering a turnover. The margin of error is so slim in this league and when the bototm falls out like it did tonight, the results are what you saw tonight. Sparano is at a very realy crossroads right now where players might start tuning out what they feel is bull**** if he doesn't fix it and fast.

Last week I felt it was right to accentuate the positives form the Jets game (coming back from 14 down, Henne's performance, etc.), this week is the opposite. Someone's head needs to roll, whether that is a player or a coach is up to Sparano, but someone deserves to lose their job over this performance. That performance is unacceptable over the course of a season, let alone one ****ing game.

Right now, all signs point to John Bonamego being the person who needs to go and Sparano needs to let the players know that their coach is gone because of them and form here on out, there is no coach to fire, only players, so get your **** together or get your **** gone.

I think that's the middle ground that makes the most sense here.

Henne's issues tonight stopped scoring drives.
That and the mystery 3rd and 6 Wildcat call at midfield. Wow.....
Heck just one TD from one of those drives makes the 21 points on ST's blunders less hurtful and the entire dynamic of the game changes. The kid is young though and these growing pains are expected.

The ST's blunders are the defining issues of this game however.
ST's blunders to the degree they happened tonight are inexcusable for High School football let alone the NFL.

We've got some real issues on our O but the first step to at least being respectable is fixing basic football skills on ST's.

Through 4 games Henne has ranked 10th in YPG (240), 10th in Completion %age (64.4), 11th in YPA (7.3), 10th in 1st down %age (36.4), 13th in QB rating at 86.1, and 14th in TDs. The only player over the past 3 seasons who is "on paper" having a better season is Sanchez. Henne has been virtually equal to Ryan and better than Flacco & Freeman.

    Compare this to 2009:
    22nd in YPG (205.6), 16th completion %age (60.8), 22nd in YPA (6.4), 15th on 1st down %age (34.6), 22nd QB rating (75), 24th in TDs (12).

His TD-INT ratio has improved. Chad has clearly improved in most aspects of his game this season compared to last.

Overall, Henne is making progress. What's worrisome is how inconsistent he can be.

I'd rather see a guy posting 200 yards 2TDs and 1 INT game after game, than being all over the map like Henne is.

Heck, even series-wise, he'll go hot and cold. Then again, a lot of QB's are streaky within a game. But the best QBs are not streaky hot and cold over a season. They are consistent game-to-game so you never ask "which guy is gonna show up today"?

I still think Henne's not bad. He's just not incredible. And definitely not looking like a cerebral QB who will dissect you, or make changes at the line to take advantage of a defense. I don;t think the coaches even trust him to call a play at the line, actually.

Fair enough, but it's less likely he'll become Peyton Manning than that he won't.

Peyton Manning, when I watched him, he seemed to at least be a cerebral QB at the line, and making a lot good decisions, smart in how he'd adjust, etc. Then his mistakes didn;t look like brainfarts... usually more trying too hard to force big plays, force the ball... or make up for poor Oline protection or receivers (1999, remember. No Reggie Wayne, Dallas Clark, etc. They had only Marvin Harrison and no other viable passing targets). Also, Manning was starting as a true rookie. His 17th start came at the beginning of his second season in the league, whereas Henne is in his third season in the league, second as a starter.

Henne has good protection. Good receivers. It's arguable whether the coaches give him any freedom or good play calls.

It's getting difficult to tell if the coaches are managing Henne the right way... or if the coaches trust him completely or are babying him because they don;t see him as mentally there yet to make all the right reads.

    Dunno.

I watch Henne and I do not see "Peyton Manningesque".

I see a dude whose light goes on and off like alternating current.

he's not there yet mentally and thats not something thats a concern this year. matt ryan and joe flacco both went through it last year after good rookie seasons, the so called sophmore slump. def coordinators have gameplanned them differently this year and they are seeing things they didnt see last year. year three is when it all should start clicking. matt ryan has made the leap, flacco hasnt. right now henne is playing like flacco. up and down. next year he needds to start playing like ryan -consistently

That's just it though. Right there.

He completed 74% of his passes last night. The first INT, boneheaded, but really give the defense credit, they adjusted to what we did on the first two drives.

The second INT, the pats read that rollout the whole way, someone was unblocked and about to steamroll Henne and he forced it. Mistakes happen.

The third one, thats 110% on Brandon Marshall. You can't just stop on your route like that for no reason.

I really don't think it was all that bad really. 74% completion percentage, 2 TD's, IMO 2INT's. In your 17th game as a starter. Heaven forbid a QB make a few mistakes along the way as he develops and grows as a player. It happens.

The fanbase really needs to let go of Marino, and forget about Pennington on the bench if this team wants to move forward. The kid is never going to grow into the player we want him to be without making mistakes. It happens. Hell, look at Ryan and Flacco last year, bad years, now in year three AS A STARTER, theyre back to their winning ways. Lets not forget Henne just started only his 17th game, I don't care about the its his third year crap. You dont learn sitting on the bench, you can learn to prepare, sure, but you don't learn how to adapt to game speed, and defensive schemes on the fly during a game by sitting on the bench. You have to expect these things. It is what it Is.

As for Sparano... We still see the same boneheaded mistakes. Last night was our first game without a too many men call wasnt it? I don't know if he should be gone yet, memebers of his staff? Absolutely. Things abotu Sparano's ways are confusing though, the clock management, the lack of spark this team seems to have. I dont get it sometimes. Not sure yet if he's the problem though.

Funny thing is, after the first two weeks I was starting to believe. Now, two weeks later, two home losses on national TV, and to divisional opponents no less, and I wonder...just what have we accomplished these last three years?

The Jests loss was bad because we had a shot late. But, this loss hurts on so many different levels because we basically shot ourselves in both feet, then in both knees. Say what you will, but that was about as ugly as it gets. Not since the 62-7 debacle in Jax have I been so embarrassed to call myself a Dolphan.

This is year three for this FO/coaching staff. And, with Parcells seemingly ready to leave and look for new challenges, it's put up or shut up time in Miami. Yes, ST's basically imploded last night, but the bigger picture is we came out flat in the second half. And, it's become all too predictable. That, to me, is on Sparano. As are his clock management skills. And, what about play calling? In other words, doesn't Sparano get a voice in what plays are called? If not, he should. He should at least have veto authority. I sure as s**t know I would.

Then, there are the players. Yes, we have a few marquee players (Marshall, Brown, Dansby), but we also have guys (starters) like Dobbins, Carpenter and Sapp. We're just not there yet. And, by now we should be. Instead, we were showed for who we are, on national TV for everyone to see. And, at the end of the game, we gave up. That too is on Sparano.

Now, I'm not saying it's all doom and gloom, but it ain't looking good. This team has their backs against the wall after week #4, with a tough row to hoe ahead. The next four games will ultimately determine our destiny in '10. All we can do now is wait and wonder. But, make no mistake...things have got to change...drastically.

    Just one man's opinion...

Nonsense. Hes the HC, if something goes wrong with this team, he takes the heat. Who the hell is this Parcells guy anyway?

This is a decision for Mr Ross anyway. I hope he will get that message by people not going to the games. Thats the way to send the message that this is unacceptable. Cost the big man money by having this loser coach.

Now its Stephen Ross's fault? ROFLMAO. No, its not. They wanted Brandon Marshall, he paid for him. They wanted Karlos Dansby, he paid for him. He has rolled out the Check book.

And quite frankly, if Henne sucks in practice (and I heard he does) its up to TS to either get him up to speed or play Thigpen or CP. I quite frankly dont care how he does it.

Seriously some of you with this Sparano and Henne heat are rediculous. Even with Henne 2 picks He and Sparano controlled the game. I dont care what team you are you spot 21 points to the pats in the 2nd half there is no recovery from that. This loss is clearly on the Special Team. Where this team is and the direction its going to what it was 3-7 years ago is great. Some of you need to sit back and relax. The moment we have a bad game (and this was the only bad game we had) you want to fire the coach so the next coach can come in a blow up the team and start over again.

In a way, the ST collapse last night obscures the fact that this team is mediocre on both sides of the ball-- the running game has no spark, Henne looks great for a while then makes a mistake which erases all of his gains, the defense gets run over by a below-average Patriots backfield. It is what it is, and this season is not going to end well. I think it will be pretty much a carbon-copy of last season.

It's the end of week 4. As bad as last night's loss was, I understand that most fans don't want to admit that the playoffs are now a long shot this year. However, I really think this team is going to miss the playoffs again. When that happens, Sparano is going to have nowhere to hide. And I really think he's going to get canned.

Ross does share blame in this mess. For not demanding a better product on the field and walking on egg shells when it comes to parcells and his cronies. He shares blame for making the league not schedule 1pm early home games. You know, fans and coaches complain about hands-on owners but what happens when you have the flip side - clueless, pushover ones? Please believe if I had paid major coin for a team I'd make sure it wouldn't embarrass me nor the fan base.

I agree with you AS. I think we have POTENTIAL to be a good team, but think we are a below .500 team now. I don't think we have the right coaches to "coach-em up". TS needs to set a fire and it starts with letting go of Bonemego.

i would compare henne to matt ryan and joe flacco last year. both qbs regressed statistically in their sophmore years. this year matt ryan has taken his next step up and looks like a franchise QB while Flacco is playing like Henne right now, still inconsistent. Next year we need to play like Ryan. If he's playing like Flacco next year we can start to be concerned. It wouldnt mean Henne or Flacco are busts but it would mean that there is cause for concern. Henne is doing positive things out there but he has issues and he needs to make some of them disappear year by year

He was part of it. Moving the ball and throwing those 2 seriously badly judged passes were killers. Special Teams as we all know are a joke. Sporano is responsible for the overall management of everything that happens on that field. Last night was embarrassing. Unprofessional play that costs us points and games is beginning to grind on me. Im just fed up today whith what im seeing. We have Odrick and Crowder missing and thats it. Those 2 players wernt going to make a difference last night. Sporano needs to fire the ST's coach ASAP. If he can bench and cut players he can sure as hell fire the guy whos teaching and telling those ST's how to miss blocks, tackles and give up points and untimately cost us games. He should be fired. Period.

Every QB has had a 2 int game. Few special team units have a blocked punt with a go ahead td, blocked fg with a td and kickoff returned for a td. Henne is far from the problem and a lot of people should really start to temper their expectations with a little reality.
