game four was the crucible now the Dolphins play for survival time to start Chad Pennington if we don't make the play-offs Sparano & staff should be fired only exceptions: Ireland & Nolan its as simple as that...
Is Pennington going to tackle on special teams, or block on kicks & punts? Henne is probably the one player on offense that has been relatively solid. One bad game out of 4 is no reason to sit him for noodle arm.
no he's going to back up Pennington, allowing us a chance to win some games & possibly move on to the play-offs. no more excuses
Pennington will not be starting anytime soon for this team unless we planning on trading up early into the first round to get another QB. So he threw two boneheaded picks to go with his 2 TD passes, then Marshall left Henne out to dry for the third. QB's are going to make mistakes. Believe it or not, they throw INT's from time to time.
no more excuses 1) it's time to start Pennington 2) trade up (if necessary) in the draft for another QB 3) acquire another head coach if we miss the play-offs. no more excuses
I was making this call in training camp, even before the preseason had started. what are these people thinking? 1) decimate the entire interior of an elite offensive line 2) throw out with the garbage Jason Taylor, another big & unnecessary mistake 3) no open competition @ QB, they simply anointed Henne & gave him the team, even after a horrendous preseason 4) the dismantling & pathetic reconstruction of special teams, as if they were the practice squad 5) the insistence of the WildCat well after its novelty had worn thin. you need a QB who is also a running back to make the system work, once the opposition has figured it out. there has to be a passing component to effectively run the system. 6) when Pat White didn't work out & we showed no interest in Vick, the WildCat should ended as a viable part of the offense. 7) when Parcells stepped down to sit & watch from the sidelines, when he 'motivated' Henne with these words: "you are a disappointment" a red light should have gone off in everyone's head. instead there were excuses, qualifiers inappropriately added to what the man did & sad, there was denial. now we face reality, like it or not. 8) game four is the crucible, either we make real change, starting with the QB or simply will not make the playoffs
henne is our starter for the rest of the season unless he completely unravels and i dont see that happening. he doesnt have the DNA for that. This is part of the growing process. if the choice is playoffs or henne's development i choose henne's development. next year is the put up or shut up year though i think we can still make the playoffs this year if our special teams can rebound
The hate Henne gets has been absolutely mind boggling. He was awesome against the Jets and everyone loves him, then throws 2 picks and people want him benched. It's immensely ridiculous.
I said it in another thread but I don't understand how people can't process the fact that Henne is a young QB with only 17 games of experience in the NFL. There are going to be growing pains and bad throws. I think he's done well this season and has made good progress since last year.
Sanchez was brutal at times last year and lost games the Jets should have won (5 int vs Buffalo). But they stuck with him, just like you have to stick with Henne. I could understand if you were a QB away from winning a Super Bowl, but you aren't. And for the record, I don't think the Jets are either. Way too early to give up on Henne. He didn't have a great game, but it wasn't God awful like some of Sanchez's. Back off the ledge.
I don't hate anybody in aqua & orange. the simple truth: Henne is holding us back, Pennington is the better QB & I think we can win with Pennington. all I want to do is win games & go to a SuperBowl. anyone wishing to aspire to the Cult of the Second Coming of Marino is welcome to do so. as for me, I'm sure of two things: 1) I know Dan Marino & Henne is no Dan Marino. 2) Pennington is our best QB on the current roster
Please explain to me how Henne is holding us back. Nevermind that we're a power running team that isn't even trying to run the ball. And nevermind that the defense and special teams have put us into huge holes the last two weeks. And nevermind the OC that seems to always forget down & distance when calling plays. Those are just "excuses".
Right. He had two terrible picks (and 2 TDs), but at the same time was a 74% passer and had like 7.7 ypa. It was a bad game because of those interceptions, but it's not like he was out there ****ting the bed.
Pennington is the better QB. he knows how to win games. do not be surprised to see his first start of the season in game five. we need to play the best, not the sentimental favorite & Would-be Marino to have any chance of a post season this year. the crucible was game four, Henne will backup Pennington: now, we go with who gives us the best chance to win games
Sparano already killed that idea in his press conference. i think pennington has a better chance of being traded before the deadline then starting for us
What was Pennington gonna do in last night's game? Lead the offense to 42 points? We've seen what Penny can do. I think you need to let him go.
Starting Pennington does nothing for this team short term and it REALLY does nothing but detriment to this team long term. You'd be trading the growing pains of breaking in a young QB for a different set of limitations that Pennington has. Either way you don't have a solid guarantee of great QB play. You stick with the youth that is hopefully your future, work your arse off with him during the bye week to overcome his issues and call plays to his strength. Meanwhile teaching your ST's how to stay in lanes, cover their responsibilities, and the basics of blocking and tackling and the team is already at another level.
That will probably happen the same time he explains exactly what it is about Henne as the 1 thing that is holding the team back.
This is all a knee jerk reaction to a bad loss. I get it. Fans do this all the time. Benching Henne for Pennington or Thigpen sets your program back. Again, if you think you have a championship team this year and all you need is better QB play, then maybe I could see it. But you don't. It would be foolhardy to sacrifice the development of your young QB.
That's the problem with A LOT of this fanbase. Not just you, a lot of people. There will never be another Dan Marino. Ever. Get it out of your head. Comparing any Dolphins QB to Marino is like comparing any Chicago Bulls shooting guard to Michael Jordan. You will never be satisfied as a fan if that's the barometer you use to judge the QB of this team.
i still dont get how a 300 yd game with 2 tds is worthy of a benching. every qb goes through an INT phase, its part of learning people here are ridiculous. I am not an apologist and if someone warrants a benching ill be the first to say it, but let the damn kid grow its not going to happen over night.
its not just part of the learning, its part of being a QB... there are games where you will throw multiple INTs...
Henne can only deal with what he is provided with. He has performed fine, it the OC that needs to be gone.
Henne has been provided everything. no more excuses. let him backup a real Franchise QB & sharpen his game as an understudy on the sidelines. undeniably, Pennington gives a chance to win... its the right thing to do.
Agreed on all points. I shudder to think what would happen if Jay Cutler were QB of this team. We are in a good QB situation compared to most teams around the league. Hell, the Giants fans have wanted Eli out for the last three years now, and he won them a Super Bowl. We may never find a truly elite QB again. Most teams don't. But you can win with a solid QB. Henne is solid. Not perfect, but if he continues to improve we'll be alright. To use a dead and tired cliche: "The QB gets too much credit, and too much blame" This board is a perfect example today.
Yup...2+ TD deficits, bad field position, and erratic play calling. He should totally count his blessings.
He has played 3 good games and 1 bad game so you think he should play right? Because if not than maybe the Chargers should bench Rivers, or the Colts who are 2-2 should bench Manning? Matt Schaub had a bad game last week, maybe he should be benched? Henne is a young player, he will have games like this.
dude i live in new york. dont know which giants you're talking too but the majority werent calling for his head before the superbowl and defeinitely not after. before the SB people were getting frustrated with how long it was taking him to progress like here for some but they werent calling for him to be benched or replaced you're spot on with the other elite QB comments and expectations
anyone wishing to aspire to the Cult of the Second Coming of Marino is welcome to do so. as for me, I'm sure of two things: 1) I know Dan Marino & Henne is no Dan Marino. 2) Pennington is our best QB on the current roster
I've been to a few Giants message boards over the last few years. When Eli has a bad game, it looks like this place does today. Only difference is they don't call for his benching because they don't have anyone behind him. My guess is they don't have the confidence in Sage Rosenfels some here have in Pennington
Pennington's last 4 games: 76-113 67.3% 665 yards 5.9ypa 2 TDs 6 INTs 66.4 rating Chad Henne last 4 games: 85-132 64.4% 961 yards 7.3ypa 5 TDs 4 INTs 86.1 rating im sorry but if you want to win games with your offense, you start Henne... you want to try to win games with special teams and defense, maybe you start Pennington, but even still id start Henne...
Adam is dead on, Manning does not take the heat up here anymore. It's very rare if you hear for his benching.
