I heard about this on Mike and Mike this AM. I'm surprised NE only got a 3rd. Usually they talk everyone out of two 1st.

Just heard it on Sirius NFL. Shocked its only a 3rd as well. Figured they would have gotten a little bit more. Looks like Favre gets his way again. He wanted Moss in GB, didn't get him, so he retired. Now he complains to Minny to go get Moss, and he's got him now. IMO now, don't count out another season for Favre next year now that Moss is there.

Hard to get more when you only paid a 4th to get him and his is older and on the downside. They were fortunate that Minn was desperate and gave a 3.

Part of me is shocked they didn't also land Percy Harvin, Allen and a conditional 1st Rounder. Damn Belichick and his Jedi mind control.

Yes...that will be wildly important for us in the last game of the year when we are playing for nothing. :(

btw...come next season the Pats will have a true #1 again, if they don't have it this season. With is speed, Tate very well could assume that role.

Meh, maybe. Tate could be solid with Brady, but he's nowhere near Moss' caliber and never will be, few guys are. He could be another Deion Branch though.

This makes me so incredibly happy for several selfish reasons:

    1. I hate the Pats. The Pats minus Moss makes the Pats a worse team.
    2. I hate Welker. The guy is a great player. No doubt about it. But I (and others) have been saying for 3 years now that his production would be cut in half if he wasn't on field with Randy Moss. Now we get to find out.
    3. They only got a 3rd round pick for him. This seems about the right value. Bellichek didn't "steal" him.
    4. Randy Moss is on my fantasy team (I never draft AFC East players...but I made an exception this year) and he will play in 17 games this year.

I think the Pats could've gotten a second rounder. Moss is in a contract year, you know he's gonna tear it up with Favre.

This could actually make Brady more dangerous, challenging him to once again manage the game by spreading the ball around. Think back 2000-2004 when they had no big name receivers and what he did with that offense. Now think back to the Jets game and watching Brady trying to feed Moss on just about every play and get picked off twice and almost a third time. Brady relies too much on Moss, like a few said, chuck it and let him get it. I think this is a huge gamble that could actually pay off. Sure, they lose the deep threat, but I think Tate will jump into that role with minimal problems and be used in a role similar to Troy Brown.

I disagree. The 2000-2004 Pats won because of their defense. Not because of Troy Brown. The 2010 Pats defense is not good, much less dominant.

You're not going to convince many people that somehow the Patriots offense becomes more dangerous by losing the best down-the-field WR in NFL history.

This is great news for the rest of the AFC.

LOL wrong. Vincent Jackson will be starting in his spot week 7. Bank on it. I would have rather they kept Moss......

Probably one of the most impressive moves I have seen by Bill. NE Bye this week Chargers play. That = 5 game suspension thus far for Vince. Trade goes down on monday he becomes a pat and gets 2 weeks of practice and pats without a number 1 wr for only one game. Trade Moss in on a younger model to help Brady finish out his years. Woes me how come they always land on there feet......

    Not really....

Before Randy Moss arrived in 2007, Tom Brady had plenty of solid seasons. But between 2001 and 2006, he had just one 4,000-yard season and never threw for more than 28 touchdowns.

I am going to enjoy dishing out crow in this thread......

How in the world does it not make sense. Look outside the box add 2 and 2? Adding Vince giving him a contract and the passing game is set for as long as Bill and Tom are there....... Get the popcorn out.

Edit: Actually it will be painful to dish out knowing we now have vince to deal with for the next 4-5 years, but I will dish it out.

That is largely a product of his attempts and the offense though. As you point out, he had a 4000 yard season before Moss got there. His #1 receiver was Deion Branch and no 1,000 yard receiver among them.

Now, I'm not saying they're better off without Moss. But I'm saying I wouldn't exactly count on a huge drop off either, depending on how they run their offense.

ah not quite so fast there actually

Schefter said that, while logical, and even though NE has 2 picks in each of the first 4 rounds, to date, there has been NO indication to him that NE will be attempting to make a move for jackson.

San Diego is adamant on their asking price of a 2nd/4th and NE has their own 'style' of business practices (read: cheap, pick wise), plus they still have to pay Mankins

turns out it was just one of those sportscenter fake hype-ups for their lead-in

It is good news for this year maybe. But the Pats are loaded with draft picks, and that old team is getting younger. They have TWO picks in each of the first 4 rounds. They can build up their defense and offense quickly. Unless they botch the picks, but it's the Patriots and they usually don't.

That's if they don't trade for Vincent Jackson.

ESPN News just said, "In computer simulations, the Pats chances of making the playoffs without Moss decreased from 63% to 53%."

The Pats lost their main deep threat and now defenses can shorten the field on them. Also, don't you think someone would have offered the Pats a 2nd rounder for Moss? I think so. They got hosed.

right and I agree I think Brady actually gets more efficient JD, however I believe they lose the quick strike stuff as well....How many times did Brady just chuck it up there and Moss made video-game-ish highlight reel catches?? That goes away....

The Vikings received a 2012 seventh-round pick in addition to Randy Moss in Wednesday's trade that sent a 2011 third-rounder to New England.

I dunno, this happened on Tuesday. Moss is good, but you think he can be brought up to speed for the Jets game?

Maybe, but it's not like Revis has never seen Moss before. I doubt it changes much with this matchup, but it would make it a bit more interesting to watch.

In the long term, trading Randy Moss may end up being a good move for the Pats, depending on how their draft picks work out (very mixed bag so far) but in the short term, this move absolutely makes them a lesser team. Part of Wes Welker's success depended on having Moss play opposite of him. Good as Welker is he is NOT # 1 receiver. He's not dominant enough to command double teams all by himself. Is Bellicheat planning on dinking and dunking his way down the field all season? That worked in 2001 when he had a 1000 rusher and a strong defense but it ain't gonna work now. I am now officially no longer considering the Pats any kind of threat to the Jets for at least this season.

Nice way to quit on the season, hoodie boy. I'm sure Tommy is real happy about this news.

As much of a smart coach BB is, I question this move. By the time all those players they draft mature, Brady will not be as effective as he will be TODAY. Stupid move.

For all the V-Jax to NE bank it guys....

The San Diego Union-Tribune confirms that there's "nothing brewing" with regard to a Vincent Jackson-to-New England trade, calling such a deal "highly unlikely" prior to the October 19 trade deadline.

This one isn't happening. The Patriots have ammo for a trade, but V-Jax's game and off-field history aren't great fits for the New England style, and Bolts GM A.J. Smith has made it clear that he won't trade Jackson within the AFC without a ridiculous amount of compensation. Smith wanted at least second- and third-round picks from the out-of-conference Vikings late last month.
