Running game has gone AWOL http://blogs.palmbeachpost.com/thed...ns-talking-points-running-game-has-gone-awol/
Ya see.... This is the type of blog post that sways opinion but it has nothing based in FACTS proved over the course of the history of football. Here are the facts as I know them. We play a man-free team which is a rarity unless you have proven yourself to absolutely suck in the passing game. I coached a man-free team and my butt puckered upon every fade. Nobody was going to have success in the running game unless they had the horses to run us over. That was our mantra. That is the explanation for one game. The team (Jets) begged us to pass. They beg most non-spread teams to pass. They have another strategy for spread. I had another strategy for spread............and yes I took much of my defensive coaching strategy from Rex Ryan. I absolutely love what he does. I do not think it will ever win an NFL championship though. The rules are just too skewed to the passing game. So how about versus the Patriots. Well here goes your statistic for the first half. 11 runs 16 passes That places this team on par for 22 runs and 32 passes absent the utter meltdown of every special teams unit on the field. The fact of the matter is that this team just endured a "no mas" game. When Thigpen was put in the game, Sparano effectively said "no mas". His special teams foot had kicked their own nuts so hard that he simply could not take anymore.
