    Matthews photos offers Miami Dolphins motivation

    The picture of a Green Bay Packers player, No. 52, squatting with his arms open as if waiting to hug a child rushing toward him, hung in several offensive linemen's lockers and that of fullback Lousaka Polite. Who put them up remains a mystery.

    ```````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````
    This is a classic Parcells trick to motivate the players. When he coached the Giants TUNA once put an empty gas can in the locker of Lawrence Taylor because he didn't think LT was training hard enough or taking the game seriously enough.
    Parcells always finds the best way to motivate everyone and it always works. :up:
    Well away from here
    It was widely rumored that the guy Parcells wanted was Clay Matthews IIRC. Might make it more of a jab as well.
    Hard to say what they needed more at that point Con, but I like Davis, however I think Matthews could be more dynamic...and will make more impact plays over his career...
    Refreshing thread!
    Amid all the sky is falling, people need to remember that even though a large part of the fanbase has already abandoned ship and are looking onto whatever else they look forward to, the season has only just begun.
    Parcells hasn't given up, and I certainly hope the Dolphins themselves have more gumpshin than the multitude of fans that are calling for a new QB, head coach or management.
    Parcells still has a couple of tricks up his sleeve. Our team is young and the chemistry is still gelling.
    Relax and let's look forward to the next game please......thank goodness we still have Tuna in the locker-room...at least for now.
    Parcells has already given up, considering he's solicitng other jobs already and has stepped away from a day to day role. I doubt he was in the locker room hanging pictures.
    Yep, exactly.
    We lost two games almost completely because of special teams.
    They were tough losses, but, I would much rather lose because of special teams than our defense giving up a gazillion yards (giving the Jests the early TD's did suck actually) or because we can't move the ball.
    Truth is, there's some really good things going on. Time for the coaches to find some magic and come out guns blazing.
    4 games in and we are at 2-2. I can live with that.
    Its time to really see what our team is made of IMHO, cause I don't think we've seen it yet, and I KNOW we haven't seen what our staff is made of yet.
    Huh ? :pity: Who cares how you lose, losing is losing this is not college ball where you get style points for wins and losses. This is the pro's where all that counts is wins and losses. All wins are pretty and all losses are ugly.
    Interesting, I don't remember talking about style points?
    We got beat by two very good teams, but at least we were in those games.
    That tells me that we are at least on the same level with these teams.
    Its not like we are the rams giving up 44 points to the freakin Lions, but its really hard to tell that reading through some of this.
    Go ahead and give up on the season and the team for all I care.
    I'm more tham willing to see how the rest of the season pans out. Its not a 4 game season :up:
    Well it was your discussion with the other poster and you said maybe he (Parcells) should have emailed it to him. I was just implying that all our speculation just doesn't really matter if the two of them have already discussed and come to an agreement.
    I dont want him to freakin email me, your joke is not funny man...... How bout a little accountability as the supposed leader of a multi million dollar franchise, to keep the fanbase in the loop as to its direction, especially after you took the job to rebuild the team, and allegedly are leaving it with question marks at this point and time, its called the right thing to do...If this team goes south this season, and there is noone telling us where we are headed from up top, which is the place where he is supposed to be, then to me that silence is completely unnessesary, and disrespectful to a fanbase...
    I mean, you have to look at the worst possible scenario at this point considering what we know....If the team has a bad season, and Parcells leaves without word as to why....How the hell can anyone say he played his role here correctly. I cant even do that and iam his biggest fan.
    Bottom line, you took a job to rebuild an entire franchise, to leave it with ?, inconsistencies, {and depending on the outcome of this season}, anger of a fanbase, without saying 1 word, is Pu$#y shi$ son...and something I have no respect for, if indeed that is the case...
    In my gut, I dont believe what Iam saying is gonna happen, however, iam preparing for the worst, because his actions have made me do so, which is something that I didn't believe I would have to do.
    My expectation's of Parcells was to get the Job done, and respect the process doing so... I dont think thats much to ask for when you take over a team, right now as we speak, he's left his position, and were coming off 2 critical home losses on national TV.....you wanna talk about bad timing of a departure, that would be it...
    He doesn't owe you or any of us Jack-squat. You don't pay his paycheck!!! Seriously? WoW!!!
    Whether you want to admit it or not, this team is light years better than when he got there.
    To call it a failure this early is mind-numbing.
    He has filled his contract, and he is able to come and or go as he pleases.
    You feel that simply because he has worked his *** off to better the team you covet that he owes you something more?
    With all due respect, that us assinine and EXTREMELY short-sighted.
    This whole Parcells thing is overblown if you ask me. The man did his job here. He brought in the right people to run the team and brought in some very talented players. I have no ill will towards him at all for leaving. It's Ireland's team now, and that way the plan all along.
    Boy, I think people are getting off track here.
    Parcells was hired to build the framework of a football organization. He was not brought in to be the GM, coach or anything else.
    He said right from the beginning that he intended to mentor Ireland and Sparano until he thought they were comfortable enough to run the day to day operations of a football team. He obviously thinks that time is now. He currently remains with the team as a consultant. He hasn't left for greener pastures yet, and if you read carefully what he has said, there's no indication that he is/was going to suddenly bolt out the door and run into the arms of another owner.
    The current performance of this team on the field is secondary to where he believes the organization is headed. Just because the results haven't been immediate doesn't mean they won't come.
    To me, this is a bunch of overblown garbage fanned by a media looking for stories and grasping at any small detail to make a connection.
    I firmly believe he let go of the top spot to allow Ireland to assume full control, but stayed on to relish in any success we may attain.
    Nonetheless, I concur DJ...it would be a disservice to the fanbase, just remember what he did to Arthur Blank though...it is not out of the realm of possibilities that he jumps after this season is up. Success may be what ultimately gets him out the door.
    I would watch the situation in NY with the Giants however...they seem to have recently turned it around: #1 in D and #5 in O atm...
    Intriguing thought there now that I think of it...1) Success this year and he leaves or 2) mediocrity and he stays on a year or two longer? What do you want? ;)
    you are totally misreading me...let me calm down for a second....Iam his biggest supporter, what I am saying here is, IF this team does not turn it around this year and compete for a playoff, and you have the taste of 2 embarrassing national TV home losses in your mouth, and your leader has left you without word, during the middle of the process, Then to me, that is not how a man of his position should play it....To me, it shows you really didn't give a sh$# enough to finish the job in the first place, and you obviously dont understand the loyalty of a franchises fanbase and their importance to the overall big picture..we put our hopes and passion behind him, and for him to leave without word, is incomplete as it gets, and just wrong on many levels...
    Here is someone else's opinion...for which I agree with if things dont go right this season..and for me, go right is to compete for a playoff, that is where my expectation has been.
    I believe Hyde wrote this..
    ''If Bill Parcells needs to point fingers before this season plays out, shouldn't he start with Bill Parcells?
    He was the king for every decision. He was given full support and an open checkbook. He set the blueprint to follow in drafts, free agency, game philosophy.
    But the leader who hasn't talked to Dolphins fans in three years evidently can't stop talking to someone about what looks wrong. And it's becoming an issue. At best, it sounds like blame-shifting. At worst, it's undermining the good people he left behind.
    Please remember, iam not giving up on this season, iam just commenting on if the struggles continue, combined with the timing of the departure...
    It would be wrong, on more than a football level...and if you cant see that,, than we disagree on how a man should handle the job, the team, and its fanbase.
    and P.S..I do believe the team is light years better than when he took the job....thats not my point, or where iam coming from.
    IMO Parcells is a master garnering credit and deflecting blame. Just looking at his time here, I would say the team is clearly better, of course the were so bad that it was almost impossible for them to be worse. The team has spent a great deal of money and draft picks. I would say the results are mixed, but that the successes have significantly outweighed the failures. What I don't know is how much of the credit and blame should be assigned to Parcells. I think it would be safe to say that Parcells should be credited with the basic framework. He brought in Sparano and Ireland. Parcells also had that cache that made FAs consider our team that probably wouldn't have otherwise. After that though, things get murky. There have been some examples of the typical Parcells pettiness that he was famous for before arriving here. That seems to be the reason for JT's departure despite apparently both Ireland's and Sparano's desire for him to return. Roth's departure is still a mystery. There have been many notable FA misses. And Parcells was allegedly the impetus behind the drafting of White. Much of the reason we're so improved is b/c of some of the UDFAs we hit on (Bess and Wake), but apparently that was all Ireland. Now there are a couple of reports that sound like Parcells is distancing himself from Henne. I agree with Hyde "At best, it sounds like blame-shifting. At worst, it's undermining the good people he left behind".
    Who knows how much of that is true, but I think the odds are good that if the Dolphins go on to win with Henne, Long and Marshall and much of the same cast that Parcells will be credited with building a winner and that there's a good chance that if that same cast fails that Parcells will avoid much of the blame. If the team fails he will still get another job and be received as a savior, much like he was received here. Yet at the same time many here will accurately regard him as a less successful version of Jimmy Johnson for his time here.
    Would you not agree, that special teams are an easier fix than say the offense? What if we lost because of bad calls? What if the entire team got sick at the hotel? Yes a loss is a loss, but why a team lost can be reason for a positive outlook or not.
    I think that's more attributed to his timing than anything... You stick around till things come crashing down and burning, and everyone's looking for someone to blame, and the guy in charge is as good a guy as any.
    But if things turn up roses, everyone is scanning back through the archive to find out where that started at.
    I think a lot of it also is due to his attitude towards the media, i.e as little contact as possible. Either he's the behind the scenes genius, or out of sight out of mind.
    Nice catch, I don't remember hearing about that. I guess every coach has his thing. It is only worthwhile if we win because of it. I guess that's what separates the genius motivators from the goofballs. Just win baby.
