Watched the first two hours of the PBS special last night and heartily recommend the special to everyone. It doesn't preach, is well researched, and does a nice job of getting the history done in an entertaining fashion.
Too bad I wasn't able to watch the episode and I can't find it in youtube too. Do you know a site where I can watch it?
It was a multi-night piece on PBS. I would guess you could check their site or perhaps it is available from Netfix or one of those sites. The whole thing ran for something like 6-9 hours.
God in America: How Religious Liberty Shaped America Is this the series you are talking about Ohiophinphan? It is on Netflix. I have watched two episodes of it and it is very interesting. I now have a better understanding of the separation of church and state. I also have a better understanding why Catholics are so hated in history. I have always wondered. It is very interesting how the Evangelicals broke away from Catholicism due to wanting freedom of religion, only to have a Catholic start the trend of having the bible not taught in schools because of religious freedom. The religion of freedom became the persecutors and the religion of persecution fought for the freedom to practice. Then there is the section on how religious freedom started in America, which caused America to be even more religious than when it started. I am really looking forward to the next 4 episodes. So far it is not preachy at all. It is just informative. Plus they have Ben Linus playing the leader of the Puritans. Made him seem so creepy.
Yes this is the series. I am glad to hear Netflix now has it. I thought the series was/is wonderful. As you say informative without being preachy. Thanks for the bump and your agreement!.
I was about to post about it on the forum because I thought it was so interesting. I love the history of things.
Finished it today. Great series. I thought it was interesting how after the last episode I lost respect for Ronald Regan while gaining respect for George W Bush.
