A fascinating, and under studied portion of North American History:

Several factions basically fought for, and against each other for 10 yrs in the back drop of the 1918 Flu Pandemic, some estimated 3 million people died in the conflict that saw 4 men claim the Presidential Palace along with the first usage of Women in Combat in North America:

    Odd:

Typically major battles are fought on the coastal plain as the land tends to be more fertile as well as the ocean producing a ready supply of food for men and women who cannot farm and engage in battle once a strategic area is taken, strength is gathered and a further offensive launched.

Just glancing at that map the first thing I noticed is the battles are all on the interior of Mexico.

    Interesting reading.

Thanks for the info and site.

Not sure about the first usage of women in combat in NA. Seem to remember certain native american tribes had women warriors. Late now, will try to confirm later.
