There's always blame going around. It's funny how some would blame the offensive coordinator rather than give credit to the defense b/c they did what they're on the field for.

It was poor execution on that play also, the Oline let two defenders in untouched.

I really don't agree with the call going wildcat at that play, but if the oline blocks, who know's what happens.

Yep, its nothing new and all the better DC know how to handle it now. The fake to the other back they do now is not faking anyone out at all. We brought Marshal here for a reason and that was not to make the Wildcat work. For people moaning, we are not much different then last year rushing the ball and about 350 yards on the plus side, throwing the ball.

2009 after three games, team record 1-3
Passin yardage. Penny 419 yards, Henne 115 yds combined 626 yds
    Brown carries 72 for 369 yards @ 5.1 ypc
    Ricky carries 50 for 248 yards @ 4.9 ypc

2010 after three games and facing 3 of the best Ds in football 2-2
    Passing yardage Henne 964 YDS
    Brown carries 48 for 226 yards @ 4.7 ypc
    Williams carries 43 for 176 yards @ 4.1 ypc

The ypc has dropped off some but look at the difference in carries, 122 in 2009 to 91 in 2010. For the significant difference in carries the YPC is really not all bad. Points wise, we have scored 14 points less this year in 4 games vs what we scored in 2009. Also take into account in 2009 we started off against Falcons, Colts Chargers then layed 38 on the hapless Bills. In 2010 we started off against the Bills then played 3 great defenses in a row, Minn, Jets ( yeah, they suck but they are gooooood ) and NE. Lets face it, our special teams killed us in the Jets game and the NE game, we had to get away from the run to play catch up in the NE game.

IMO, this is a pretty decent football team, the wildcat ? yeah, I can live without it when we have 3rd and 6 and agree with others, its nothing special anymore. More then a few teams are running it. I know I will get hammered by some but Ronnie and Ricky are not Chris Johnson and Jamal Charles or Turner, sorry, thats how I feel about both of them. Take into account we are doing way more passing this year and they get less touches and switching them in and out, well, I am not surprised the running game numbers are down. Like I said, they brought Marshal in for a reason, unforetunatley, we have not gotten it to him deep too many times yet, but we will.

If Henning didn't run the Wildcat all year, people would be screaming where's the Wildcat ???

If any of the Wildcat runs this year had produced, people would be peas in a pod.

The Wildcat just hasn't produced so far this year. I trust Henning if he feels it's an execution problem instead of what the Defenses are doing different when they are watching the tape.

Gotta disagree. The D Coordinator in the ravens game was Rex Ryan, the same coach who couldn't stop the WC to save his life on Monday Night last year, despite fielding what eventually became the number one defense. The team that exposed the WC was Nawlins. They brought their corners on blitzes to take way the Jet sweep so their front 7 could concentrate on filling the gaps inside with an extra safety to clean up. To me, that, and the injury to Ronnie, spelled the beginning of the end for the WC.

I do agree that we need to phase it out. Our screen and draw game is a joke and we should spend more time on those areas instead of fiddling with gimmicks.

    Back in Miami
    He's being mule headed.
    That's his problem.

What he's leaving out is the FACT that defenses have developed a distinct way of defending this now that didn't exist when we were relying on it in the past. His comments show arrogance, ignorance and a lack of willingness to adapt.

Scary traits for a coordinator to posess.
You can't call this play on a 3rd and 6 and watch a team pull in their CB's or safties to blitz and think it's still an effective call.

    Well said.
Henning has to understand percentages and that call on 3rd and 6 is about as low as you can get with your chance to convert. He stated that it worked last year when we we ran that play in the same situation and it was successful. So what. You go high percentage. You are moving the ball on the first drive against the Pats. That play just didn't make sense.
That thing had drive killer written all over it.

Agreed. The defenses are betting that all we're going to do in the WC is run so they are run blitzing every time. If the blocking isn't perfect and/or the back doesn't break the tackle it will be stuffed. On top of that it's common knowledge that we only run RB inside and RW outside. The predictability is killing the WC.

Give me a break with this. Playing for 3 is never reasonable, unless it's the last minute of a game, to get a win. Playing for 3 is a total losers mentality. And going Wildcat on 3rd and 6 on a drive in which we're having great success throwing the ball is a complete disaster of a playcall.

Sorry people, the Wildcat is officially dead. It's been figured out. It's gained pathetic yardage all year long. It should only be used within the 5 yard line. Any other time and it's a pathetic playcall as far as I'm concerned.

the wildcard is effective when other teams run it which means it hasnt been figured out but rather we just arent executing it correctly. if it had been figured out noone would be having success

I'm glad you've got the balls to rock out like this on your Madden franchise, but no actual honest to goodness professional NFL coach would agree with you? Teams do it every week.

You should go look at that first 2008 Patriots game to see how they defended the Wildcat.

Maybe I'm confused, but this is a really, really silly comment to be making if you are talking about the Jet Sweep portion of the play.

For as little threat of a pass as people claim there to be, NE sure had enough respect to put a single high safety out there against it.

    over there
I feel he has done well also.
I'm not going to support some of those WC plays though. The down and distances should call for something more conventional, like a pass for instance.:wink2:
