I fail to see how Sparano’s disregarding of public opinion when it comes to the quarterback depth chart constitutes alienating the fanbase. To contrast, Nick Saban alienated the fanbase.

I’ll believe that when I see it. Jack Del Rio isn’t on the hot seat because the Jags can’t sell tickets, he’s on the hot seat because his teams have never met the expectations placed on them, particularly after that 12-4 season a couple of years ago.

And if Sparano gets fired, it’ll be for the same reason: one good season in 2008 and a bunch of interchangeable average seasons afterward.

How is Nolan capable of greatness, yet no one else on staff is?

Was it his awesome 18-37 career head coaching record that helps aid that opinion?

    I didn't say it did.

I'll say this: If you put a gun to my head and forced me to pick one current Miami Dolphins staffer to headcoach my organization, I would go with Mike Nolan.

Sparano has done better in 2 and 1/4 seasons than Nolan did in like 3 and a half though?

As far as the record goes - definitely. But Nolan's tenure in San Francisco does remind me a lot of Belichick's in Cleveland. A very good coordinator on his very first NFL HC gig who got killed by having no QB. Sure, you can blame Alex Smith on Nolan if you want but missing on a 1st round QB doesn't constitute a bad headcoach. It happens. From everything I heard, read and saw from and about Nolan, he's a brilliant coach. Sparano's the safe bet, of course, but I wouldn't hesitate to give Mike Nolan another shot.

Ok, I can at least respect your justification. I'm siding with Sparano for at least another year though.

I don't have any issues with Sparano mate. That's why I said "if you put a gun to my head"

Although I have to admit that Sparano's game management is too conservative for my taste. At least in today's NFL. This would probably merit its own thread, but coaches who elect to punt or FG on 4th and short in the 4th quarter while playing from behind should be a dying breed.

Fat jokes are funny and don't act like it's just Phins fans making them. Ryan doesn't seem to have an issue being as he was scarfing down those M&M's after his surgery. I don't see it affecting his coaching ability. Plus fat jokes are really funny when pointed at the Jets.

So it's the offensive coordinator's fault the 11 guys on the field can't score a TD from 2 yards out?

Yes. Coaches & QB's are to blame for all breakdowns in all facets of the game.

I like what you did there. Good point. As a businessman, you "stop the bleeding" before you "bleed every ounce." In other words, you cut your losses as you should in any business venture, stocks, etc.

I concur with you Vendigo in every angle of the argument. Imo, Nolan has the capacity to be a great coach. I would add that his 1st R draft pick, Alex Smith, did not pan out...Lets not forget that a good sized core of their team Nolan did draft: Gore, V. Davis, Joe Staley, and Patrick Willis. Different situations imo differentiate the records. Sparano has the support of Parcells/Ireland picking the team for him, whereas (from what I know) Nolan did not have a comparable front office.

Its because almost to a one of them, they root for other teams than the Dolphins. Its not like that in any other city, the local media are usually homers, but not in Miami

"The broadcasters then sell advertising to make the money to pay those contracts."

But who do they sell the advertising to if no one wants to watch the team?? What advertiser buys spots where no one watches?

The point that I am trying to make with all of this is that without fans buying something - THERE IS NO FOOTBALL! Sparano needs to understand that he doesn't work for the Dolphins, he works for us. (granted indirectly)

Without the fan support there is no team/NFL. He is literally biting the hand that feeds him when he turns on his own fans. Once the media smells the bloody meat in the water they will need to do their job and make bigger stories to sell papers.

When Sparano acts like this he is making this far worse - ON HIMSELF! Are we starting to see cracks in the foundation of this organization? First TUNA basically removes himself, they drop two very winnable games, they fire the special teams coach and now Sparano turns on his fans?

These are not the actions of solid team leadership. Something is very wrong here. Please, please, please beat the Packers....

The NFL leads all major sports in ratings, both collectively and individually. The Super Bowl drew 110 million viewers. The NBA Finals barely managed somewhere in the mid 20 millions, and the World Series with the Yankees and Phillies had around 15 million, IIRC.

Who buys the advertising slots? Everyone. Every commercial you see while watching football is running because the advertiser paid the sky-high rates charged by the networks to air that spot. Auto manufacturers in particular are infamous for advertising during football games.

You’re upside down on this topic.

It's typical football....not just the NFL but at any level.

Heck, I saw the exact same thing at a pee-wee game last week. The team of 7 year olds lost by 3, and of course one of the benchwarmer's dads had to blast the coach afterwards saying that if his kid started at QB the team would be undefeated.

The coach turned around and said, "I've asked for volunteers all year in practice...you haven't been here once to help these kids. You want to be the head coach; here's the playbook...practice starts tommorrow at 6. I'll take my wife out to dinner instead...good luck coach"

The dad shut up and walked away....it's always fun to ***** and cry when your team loses but that doesn't mean you know what you're talking about.

It's the same thing with our Fins....through 2 weeks everyone said, "Henne can't throw the ball...we have to run." He lit it up in week 3 w/ no turnovers (last play really doesn't count) and we lost, but everyone said. "Why didn't we run more?" Well duh Fin fans...you were just crying for more passes. Week four Henne throws a few picks and now everyone wants him replaced.....that makes absolutely no sense at all.

Sparano did well by telling everyone to cry somewhere else. The fans do not run the team and they have very short memories.

If Sparano doesn’t win, he’s fired. It’s as simple as that.

There is no monetary angle here.

    That's fair enough.

Another game like the last one and I won't care less what this team does the rest of this season.

This is some really weak **** on the part of Sparano and Henning; Henning I knew was an idiot and a senile old ****, Sparano I'm really surprised at.

They don't like that the fans are critical? Tough ****.

What they are "entitled" to is to do their ****ing jobs right and shut the **** up about the fans, WHO PAY FOR 100% OF EVERY RESOURCE THEY WORK WITH.

It's his fault for calling two straight passes instead of calling the right play and running the ball at least one time with one of the best power rushing attacks in the league.

I completely disagree with any and every post bringing money into this issue. It reminds me somewhat of people telling police or, any other Gov't. worker, that they pay their salaries because they pay taxes, and they better be nice. Yeah, That works. LOL

Fans are entitled to opinions. IMO, sometimes they cross the line but, they are still entitled. Although they may not be politically correct, coaches are entitled to the same.

Some fans call them senile, stupid, say they don't know what they're doing, and want them to lose their jobs.

I fully understand them taking a shot back. I would, and have done the same. The sensitivity of some fans fascinates me. They can sure as hell give it but, don't let a coach answer back.

Brings to mind throwing stones in a glass house. JMHO

i love Sparano! He's all about business and doesn't care what people think. Fans and media are way to emotional and say irrational things at times. Our coach believes in what he's doing and the team believes in it as well. I really believe that there's nothing that anyone can say to cause distractions on this team with their current leadership. Sparano's statement will pay dividends for Henne's confidence. Sparano is a great leader and his players will in turn be just like him...not caring what people think and focused on their job. i love it!
