I found that call weird because it went to a commercial break, then came back and seen there was a flag and wondered wtf was going on.
why can't they assume, or better yet ask the ref that made the call what part of his body they saw hit when they spotted the ball. if that ref says his elbow, the ref making the review can see that it was his hand that was down at that moment.
That call wasn't as bad as the game against the Saints last year when Darren Sharper fumbled it out of the endzone. That call lost us the game.
It means that if the referees don’t grade up to standard, they get fired. Though that’s admittedly an extreme case. The top-rated referee crews get the playoffs, and thus extra money via paychecks. And the best crew gets the Super Bowl, which is even more money.
i'm a very reasonable person, i know i'm not the only reasonable person on the planet. i admit it when there's blown calls that we have an advantage from. even if i was a packers fan i would admit that.
Its nice to be a couch QB and I get pissed at the refs also, but those guys have a no win pain in the *** please nobody job. The problem is when they try to take human error out of the scenario and it still gets messed up. The other thing we have to take into consideration is that we do not know what camera views they get to see. In my opinion, they should call holding for the sake of Wake every play.
Not to mention it was, at the very least, a six (6) point swing as we lost the chance to at least hit a field goal and they subsequently connected on one after the turnover on downs. They took about accountability for teams, coaches, and players...but there has to be something instituted for the officiating that does not "tarnish" the game as is frequently used to excuse these issues.
Your cool and I like how your asking questions and not just assuming that the officials just blew it. Most people on here are just complaining for no real reason. At first I thought it was a bad spot, but after watching the replay, we just don't see the ball. Officials can't do their jobs by assuming, if they do, they won't be around very long.
I have lost a lot of interest in the NFL because to me it just feels like the NBA sometimes. That spot was horrible... nothing anyone can say will change my mind about that. Just like the Sharper fumble last year in NO. Just like the Jets getting a 50 yard P.I. penalty on 4th and 6 today. Just like Brady and the tuck rule.
you see more contact than that all the time in the NFL. If that is a lower half of the NFL team they don't get the call. Just like Brady, Manning, Brees... Farve get touched 15 yards. lower rung QB's.. ahh whatever.... That is the NBA part of the NFL
no excuses but dont act like that play didn't matter because it did. I will say this. The Fins may have lost that game anyways BUT that was a Ref gift wrapped TD.
It's part of the game that fans will never understand. I've officiated in three professional soccer leagues, so I see it a little different. I do understand the fans side, but as an official I see the game different. In one game, there are 3 different views on the game. The fans see it one way, the players/coaches have their opinions and then you have the officials view.
And the officials normally have it right... BUT they are human and they make mistakes. To be honest, like I already said... "I" feel certain teams and players get preferential treatment. That is just my feel... I could be wrong.. I mean I am due cause I was wrong about something right around this time last year.
Th refs were idiots in the Niners-raiders game too. it was as if they had bet money on Oakland to win
Your right, the star players do get the 50-50 calls. It's just the way it is in professional sports. This is something that fans will never understand. As an old official, I was told by the league who to protect more. For example, do you want to pay money to see Dan Marino play or would you rather pay to see Ray Lucas? This is why you protect the star players.
I pay money to watch a the game. I pay money to watch the players determine the outcome. I pay money with the hope that Refs call a good game and not give one side or the other preferential treatment.
If he couldn't see the ball did he asume the ball was being held between his ankles in order to short the spot?
If he couldn't see the ball, you have to go with the call on the field.y You can't assume where the ball should be.
The refs and the stupid commish just want to ruin this game that we love. It's ****ing football. Let these guys play for crying out loud. You can't even stare at a QB for too long these days.
No, he didnt assume anything. Because he couldn't see the ball, he has no video evidence of where to actually spot the ball for the first down. It sucks, its one of the flaws of the system. But you can't have a guy making judgement calls either.
The owners are just protecting their investments. It's that way in all professional sports worldwide, not just in the NFL.
