we're pretty close to swinging in a good direction or bad direction. Its amazing how one game would change everything. if we would have won our close game against the jets we would be 4-1. we deserved to lose the pats game, but we took a step in the right direction by firing the special teams coach. even if it wasn't the special teams coaches fault and its from a lack of talent on our special teams players, you can rest assured that the special teams players are stepping it up a notch because nobody wants to lose their job. And even if our assistant special teams coach that got promoted to special teams coach isn't the right guy for the job, you can rest assured that he will coach his heart out because he wants to keep his job.

just as one game that we've already played (the jets game) could have made a huge difference, i can think of a lot of recent losses and wins (like the game we just played) where 1 or 2 plays would have made a huge difference in the out come of the game. I know i'm living in a fantasy world by bringing this up but hear me out. lets take away 3 things from this game against the packers. What if these 3 things didn't happen? what if Henne didn't throw that int, what if vontae didn't get beat on the next play, and what if the refs would have got the 4th and 1 ronnie brown run correct? if those 3 things didn't happen this win would go from ugly to pretty. the bad ref call cost us a 6 to 10 point swing in our favor. If Henne didn't throw the int and vontae didn't get beat on the next play that's any where from 7 to 14 point swing in our favor. we could have scored a field goal or TD on that drive where Henne threw an int, or maybe we wouldn't have scored at all. that's why i said it could have been a 7 to 14 point swing in our favor. if those 3 things are taken away we would have won by at least 10 points. if those 3 things didn't happen and we scored points instead of the packers scoring points, we would have won by 13 to 24 points. here's the possible scores if we take those 3 things away
    dolphins 20 packers 10
    dolphins 23 packers 10
    dolphins 27 packers 10
    dolphins 30 packers 10
    dolphins 34 packers 10

We all know what happened. those 3 things did happen and we won in overtime 23-20. My point is how different would things be if we won the close game against the Jets and those 3 things didn't happen against the packers? We're 1 game and a couple of mistakes away from being a great team!

I'm done with the "what if" game. I just wish my "what if"s" would have happened and all my fellow fans wouldn't see this cup as half empty. i choose to see this cup as half full.

We beat a good team. We can play whatever "what if" games we want, but we finished the game. That's what good teams do, they find ways to win. We're 3-2 and have plenty of opportunities left to win our division. I probably view our team as more "glass half full" than some, but I don't see why anyone would say we're a bad team.

A few weeks ago we barely squeaked by the worst team in the league when we beat Buffalo; before the break we got assraped mercilessly by the team a lot of folks here were saying was "not as good as in the past."

Sunday we barely squeaked by the reserves of a good team.

It's all well and good to want to feel good about our team, but look at things realistically.

I am glad you are done with the "what if" game, because its meaningless. Those things didnt happen. We beat an injury riddled team in OT. Thats the fact. But come the end of the season, it will count as a win. The Jets and Pats games will count as a loss. No IFs, Ands, or Buts...they are what they are.

I think you said it right in your thread title. We arent a bad team. We also are not an elite team. As you accurately point out, though dont actually say, "We are second rate". Its what we are.

Someone has been making that point now going on three weeks and being hated for it. The truth hurts sometimes. Glad you recognize it.

Realistically, no one could've predicted we'd be any better than 3-2 at this point. Many predicted 4-4 at the mid point, and we have a good chance to make it there, 5-3 would be awesome. Plus we're relatively healthy and due to get even healthier over the next week or two. What more can you realistically ask for?

The reality is that we beat Buffalo on the road in the season opener. It's a fresh start and every team is ready to play.

The reality is that we beat an underachieving Minnesota team with an All-Pro Adrian Peterson and a good defense in their home opener.

The reality is that we lost to an extremely good New York team, but stuck with them 'til the very end.

The reality is that we lost to a good New England team because of a special teams meltdown.

The reality is that we beat a good Green Bay team (teams get banged up, no excuses) at Lambeau.

    The reality is... we're 3-2.

    Oh, I don't know...

To have a coaching staff that has the cojones to unleash our strong-armed young QB.

To have hit on most instead of barely 20% of our draft picks in the last 5 years so we didn't have to scramble just before opening day to round out our STARTING OFFENSIVE LINE with the leftovers of the league.

To have a starting RB that ****ing hits the hole instead of dancing around in the backfield like the DE who now plays for the Jets did on TV; one who isn't outshined every week by his 33-year-old backup.

To have a HC who has the faith in his players on the field that the HC of those same Jets have, instead of one who plays "not to lose."

To have an OC who isn't a senile old **** who lashes out at the fans who make his livelihood possible.

To have a QB Coach who actually develops his starting QB.

To handily beat the teams we're supposed to beat and actually CHALLENGE the ones we're not supposed to beat.

    To be good.

the reality is we have the potential to be very good but we would need Henne to elevate his game and the offensive line to do the same. we may end up being a .500 team or we may end up 11-5. Its all dependent on how fast Henne and the oline can grow and get more consistent

Great post I went to bed last night thinking the same thing. It is unbeleivable to me how negative this forum has gotten, in fact if you were reading these post without knowing the Phins record you would think they were 1 - 4.

If this forum is a true reflection of our fan base, then we have the worst fans in the league from a player perspective. I am not sure how you are motivated to do better in life and work but I always perform better with encouragement. Wake up the players read these posts and if you think they are not affected your wrong.

    Lets put things in perspective.

We are playing one of the toughest schedules in the NFL and we are 3-2.

We play in arguably the toughest division in the NFL and we are 3-2.

We are 1 loss away from the best record in the NFL.

We have 6 potential pro bowlers in Long, Carpenter, Wake, Vontae, Marshall, Bess and Dansby.

We are 3 for 3 on the road against 2 teams that were picked to go all the way.

We have a young quarterback that has a rifle arm can make all the throws, is developing his pocket presence and touch passes. All he needs is confidence and encouragement and I have no doubt he has top ten potential.

We have a young team with a solid foundation on both sides with the potential to beat any team. Do we need a few pieces yes. Will we win every game no. Will they develop and improve. Hell yes!

There is alot to be thankful for but some of you guys are killing me. I for one am escatic about this start and the potential of this team. Have not felt like that for along time!!!!!!!

    Go Phins.

not only r we not a bad team, we r a good team. i feel like our conservative calls by henning for the most part have been holding back the offense. yesterday he actually progressed in his play calling by not calling any wildcats. props to henning for that.

i like our running back situation, we have a top 5 ol in the league when Jerry comes back, our wr core is real good with a top 3 wide out leading the way, henne, aside from staring down the receivers a little to much, he has shown me he can make the throws and will be good.

our defensive line is real legit, and will only get better when odrick comes back. our line-backing core now with crowder back and dobbins out got vastly improved, and our secondary is young and up and coming, but is looking good. bell may not look as good this year, but i think he will turn it around.

i don't know about most people on here, but i think this team has what it takes to make the playoffs and do things.

Jesus Christ on a crutch do we have some homers in here...

~ Anyone not notice that Henne can't seem to throw the ball to the sidelines without it being 10 feet over the receiver's head?

~ Anyone notice how locked in on Marshall he is?

~ Anyone notice how he consistently throws into double or triple coverage?

~ Anyone notice our running game is nothing to write home about anymore?

~ Anyone notice the combined record of the teams we beat is 5-11?

~ Anyone notice the record of the teams who beat us is 9-2?

Come back and crow that we're not a bad team next week. Let's see how they do against the Steelers. If they sodomize us like the Pats did, then you can take off those aqua and orange colored glasses and see the team for what it is at the moment.

    Average.

why so down on this team? the only bad game we played was vs the pats. every other game we won, or we were in it till the very end.

u would think after winning in gb people would be pumped and all, but all some people can do is look towards the downside.

be positive man, isnt that why u follow the fins in the first place?

I'm not a homer but I agree with this post. Yeah Green Bay is banged up but that's mostly on defense. Offensively they still have legit WRs, a QB who's Top 10 and a RB who's started since Week 2. Packers were 2-0 at home before this game and their two other losses were by 3 points each.

One game at a time. 3-2 with Pittsburgh, Cincy and Baltimore up is better than 2-3 by 100 miles.

I really think we could have been 5-0 with a bit of luck. In the two losses we dominated at times and it was only bad ST that put us out of contention against the Pats. I just get the feeling we are capable of winning when we should lose, and lose when we should win

Overall i think we are an above average to good team that is playing well, but just falling short at critical times.

Point well taken Nabo, no denying it... but what Muck stated, in another thread, we have missed out on numerous starters and potential lot of snaps players due to injuries also...

We would wish that the injury bug did not hit this team as early as TC, but it did and our FO and coaches had to make due with what we had and with the market...

We have lost the following starters, if not players that would have probably played a lot of snaps, like Ferguson, W. Allen, Edds, Gardner, and Merlin, and Sheets (ST) for the Season began due to injuries...

not including starters like CC, J. Jones, and J. Odrick who have missed multiple games within the first 5 games... if you think about it that, that is 9 players (20%) of the team that is dressed (45 players IIRC) during game day...

The OL has been impacted in the middle by missing Gardner (season), and Jones (a few games) forecasted starters...

The DL has been impacted dramatically by the vacant talent of Ferguson, Merlin, in-coming rookie in Odrick...

The LB core has missed CC, and what would have we seen from the rookie Edds, guess will have to wait till next year...

The 2ndary has been impacted again by missing W. Allen for the season...

and Sheets? How would his speed and talent affected our KOR on Special Teams... we'll have to wait till next season...

So now that whole world is crying that GB is missing quite a few starters??? Welcome to the NFL... now GB knows how the Dolphins have felt since TC... yes since TC...

and guess what, IMHO, most if not all of GB's depth would be starters on other teams, even if they were not starters in GB...

and Aron Rodgers did play in the game, I believe I saw his Stats sheet (little sarcasm there)... and they had 9 out of 11 starters in the Offensive team out there all through out the game... and how that Offense faired out???

One quick strike play in the first half for a TD, and a long drive at the end of regulation to tie it up around the 2 minute warning... got to give that to the great GB Offensive team... 14 points scored in about 5 minutes of possession... and managed 2 FG's in the other 23 minutes of possession... did I mentioned that they still had 9 starter in the Offense???

So GB had reserves playing, so did we, did I forget to mention that??? Naw, I did say we lost guys before the start of the season, so I am OK with it...

Now, can we all just stop saying that our team is barely beating other teams???

When 20% of your team is either gone for the season or missing a handfull of games and you are putting the effort and staying close to win the games (except for NE), then you have the nucleus of a good to great team in the making...

Ohh... and one last thing... the a ** raped that we got from NE??? that was the 21 Points given up by our ST, if IIRC... and Henne's propensity to make something happen while trailing by 20 points in the 4th quarter, due to our ST... one note... Henne had 2 INT in the first half, still winning7-6 and NE had only one long drive (78 yards) for a score, in the 3rd quarter... so who got their stuff kicked again??? Yes say it with me... our SPECIAl TEAMS DID...

but I can understand why you said that they totally controlled us... 27 points is a big difference...

But there is a simple explanation, if we don't let our emotions on the loss get in our analytical way of thinking realistically...

i was one of many who believed we'd be 4-4 or 5-3 best case at the half way point .... the challenge is -- our schedule doesn't get easier as it had looked before the season started in the 2d half.

the good news .... we go the next 4 against the AFC Central .... so all should be relatively low scoring games IF the D can keep us in the games .... that's my biggest worry still -- the D is still not an in your face, stop'em style yet. Namely in our LBs .... Take Wake and his pass rushing out and we are very much hurting at OLB, and it doesn't seem like there is much potential to get better.

as much as i thought i 'liked' and predicted it for the last 2 years ... i would certainly take a flier on Merriman IF he is healthy enough to play. we need more than Wake at LB.
