Michael Irvin on his radio show cautioned against starting over from scratch because he said it takes years to remake the roster to fit what the new guy wants to do. But it can’t be any worse than this.
It's probably another 4-5 year process, but what are we putting on the line? We're mediocre at best right now. We're a middle of the pack toilet bowl team. If you told me back in 2001 that at this point in the future we'd have bowl losses to Cal & Wisconsin.... I'd of punched you in the ear. I'd take a really bad season or two if it means we're on the cusp of returning to elite status. Let's rebuild again. It's time. This little experiment we've got going on here isn't working out well for anyone but the teams we're competing against. At this rate with what we've got going on right now.... we have no shot at anything significant at any point in the future. We're just going to remain average. I get what Mike is saying, but I just don't get the point. We're not sacrificing anything. I could see if we just couldn't get over the hump against top teams like Ohio State, but we're also losing to mediocre ACC opponents like FSU at home in blow out fashion.
Would Jim Harbaugh consider leaving Stanford for The U? I'm not too sure he's "thug" enough for what this program really needs. I want another Jimmy Johnson style "don't give a ****" bad ***. I'm still pissed off at how "nicely" we've cleaned things up. I miss the old days where everyone else in the country hated us and thought we were a criminal institute. I actually want to go back to that.
Right?! It's quality bs, is what it is. It's not what Howard, Jimmy, Dennis, Butch or Larry would have tolerated. Maybe, Larry. Those are the last coaches who've had a part in our accomplishments. At one time or another, they were all Head coach. Shannon was there too, for a lot of it, but as head coach, he can't get it done, imo. I'm glad he's been a part of the program for so long, and I really wish he'd stay on as a defensive coordinator; he's shown that he can get it done in that department. But as a head coach, no. We need somebody that will put a foot up these guy's asses, motivate them, make them proud that they play for the . I hope more players from the past come in and talk to these guys, so they know how important our program is. We represent a proud program, the ONLY one in the country, as far as I can tell, that invites and welcomes past players to be a big part of what's going on. I don't see too many colleges that have alumni on the sidelines during a game, unless it's for a jersey retirement. At the U, you see Irvin, Kelly, Sapp, Reed, Portis, Torretta, Shockey, Dorsey, Vilma, Mcgahee, Lewis, Irvin, etc. On an annual basis. I only hope we can finish the year with a promise of an ACC Championship, and a decent bowl game. And that we WIN that bowl game; that hasn't been done since Shannon's been our coach. I'm not happy with where we're at, but I'll ALWAYS be happy to back the . That's my team, that's my family. ............. it's a Canes thing, and you wouldn't understand.
....it hurts watching Arkansas backup QB come in and perform like this against a big time team in a big time game.
I watched Northwestern last night and have seen a few of their other games this year. Teddy Bridgewater just doesn't impress me at all like I thought he would. He looks like a smaller/faster version of Jacory Harris. As a passer, he looks like the copyright version of Jacory Harris. He floats the deep ball and it sails just alike and all. Wouldn't be surprised if instead of the next QB hopeful we've got ourselves another Ethenic Sands. If he doesn't pan out then we're definitely screwed because it looks like Shannon is committed to him "succeeding" Jacory in 2012. I don't even think they're actively looking at other potential highly touted QB prospects. There is definitely nothing in A.J. Highsmith or Whipple. I keep forgetting about Morris. He may be our only hope.
Doesn’t Shannon commit to these Northwestern QBs because it means they bring their teammates along for the ride? He thinks he’s getting a 5-for-1 deal. So much for Quarterback U.
How can anyone support Randy Shannon and his staff after reading something like that straight from one of his big time recruits? The poor kid actually QUIT FOOTBALL.... and it sounds to me like he had the perfect professional mindset coming in. Stuff like this makes me not even want to support this current team as long as this staff is in order. Rooting for this team to be successful is rooting for this garbage to continue for years to come. I'd rather endure a horrible season or two + change.
Shannon was on the radio today and said that the Duke game's atmosphere was high school level and there was a ton of empty seats. Then, when asked about Miami's struggles he went onto say, "Well, Duke is a very tough place to play." Incompetent. Does he think he's Frank Haith or something? Duke is not a very tough place to play and their football program is D2.
Shannon said that?!? He does know it's the Duke football team right? I thought that was a fan. Either way, LOL @ that dumbass comment.
Sad to read...really want Shannon to succeed, but as each day passes it is less and less likely that will ever happen.
Btw, idk if any of you saw but Eli Rodgers de-committed and Teddy may be next. http://miamiherald.typepad.com/umiami/2010/10/rogers-decommits-could-bridgewater-be-next.html
He thought they played Fluke not Duke. They're always tough since you never know which way the ball could bounce.
If they're not going to adjust their offense to a spread to suit Bridgewater, like they should have done for Jacory, instead of trying to fit a square peg into a round hole, then Bridgewater might as well de-commit. We'll be ****ed though as this coaching staff feels the need to only go after 1 QB... Or should I say 1 QB and each of his teammates... But being ****ed might be a good thing. Losing sucks, but if it means changes will be made, I'll gladly live through the losing like I did last year with the Sixers.
Don’t count on an 8-4, 7-5, 6-6 season getting Shannon fired, folks. The Canes would probably have to lose out for Hocutt and Shalala to even consider dumping Shannon. He runs a disciplined program and the kids do well in classes, and that’s more important to the administration than football proficiency. Remember, they think ESPN’s “The U” documentary was a negative portrayal of an undesirable program.
Yeah, Shalatwatamus didn't allow any of the currents players or staff to interview for that documentary, and I've heard that the 2nd part of it has been put on hold, due to difficulties with administration.
Was going come in here for a friendly jab but after reading the last few pages, now I'm just depressed.
She's just running a school nicknamed "Thug U". Do we not remember the FIU brawl? The first thing Shannon did when he took over, was implement a 'no gun' policy. Certainly everyone would like to be able to run a program like FU or LSU, that doesn't care about following the rules, but at the same time we need perspective on where this program has come from.
If the FIU brawl is the singular worst moment in Miami Hurricanes history, then Shalala’s stance is even more maddening. Anyway, did anyone hear Randy Shannon’s interview with Le Batard today? Ken LaVicka said it best: listening to Shannon used to be inspiring, but not any longer.
Whenever Randy Shannon expresses confusion as to why people were displeased with the outcome of the Duke game, he should be forced to watch this UCLA-Oregon game.
I'm hoping to finally get a win against Butch and the Tarheels tomorrow. He's got our number every year. It's hard to say whether Jacory with be an INT throwing machine or not; he's got the 2nd most in the ACC right now. I was pretty bitter towards Butch for a couple years after he bailed on us, but if we lose tomorrow, I'd almost wish that we could trade coaches.
Pretty excited to see the game tonight, after the first two losses for UNC (which both were real close and could have been wins) they've been able to win the rest. Losing their TE Pianalto will hurt a little though, go Heels.
A well deserved empty stadium that hopefully gets emptier as the season goes on. I feel bad for the Marlins, but these guys really don't deserve a packed house and they don't deserve much fan support. Waste of people's time and energy. Preserve it for the Dolphins game tomorrow. At least they actually play hard for 60 minutes and show some ****ing heart despite any other flaws the team may have. This Hurricanes team.... does.... not.... even.... try. There is NO EFFORT. This team is completely lost and they don't really care to be found. There is no leadership because the guy running the show is a dickless incompetent. Alumni must be disgusted watching this current team EMBARRASS our history.
