While I agree because I hate the Yankees and the Phils

Its MLB's worst nightmare. The ratings will be horrible.

The Yankees-Phillies WS from last year was outdrawn by the Celtics-Lakers NBA Finals, and no one cares about that rivalry anymore.

Who gives a ratsass about Rupert and his BAZILLIONAIRE cronies.

Remember once upon a time, when ratings were an afterthought? When it was still just a game.

Word is Teixeira is out 6 to 8 weeks with hammy injury. Not like the time table matters much but yeah he's done for the playoffs. Big blow even if he wasn't hitting, he was still a threat and his D is great.

You say that like there is a rivarly to begin with, maybe there is one in Philly's eyes.......

and um the Lakers/Cletics is arguably ones of the greatest rivalries of all time...they should outdraw the WS from last year........USA/Ghana outdrew the WS last year for pete's sake, I think it is more people arent into baseball that much anymore....

Lakers-Celtics is indeed one of the great sports rivalries… rather, it used to be. These days, no one cares about it. The rivalry is still in the 1980s. Don’t even try to tell me that Kobe Bryant versus a roster that is basically a retirement home is in any way as compelling as Magic versus Bird. It just isn’t. And people recognize that.

Yet Yankees-Phillies last year couldn’t beat Celtics-Lakers despite all we hear about the importance of having a New York team do well, or a northeast team do well.

    Zzzzzz.

I think that's a big leap there thinking Teixeira might have been a steroid guy. Pulled muscles happen. It's not like the guy randomly got a tumor in his stomach or anythinggiambirememberthatone? Seriously though I don't Teixeira is or ever was a steroid guy. Accusing him of that because he got hurt last night is kind of wrong.

Two big plays that won't be talked about that were huge plays in the game last night. Elvis Andrus driving stop and force out of 3rd with the bases loaded on Brett Gardner's ground ball, sure it made the Yankees go up 3-2 but it got the team the force out and Holland shut them down afterwards. And Nelson Cruz tagging up and going to 2nd base on the fly ball to CF which lead to David Murphy to be IBB to get to Molina.

    a huge and unjustified leap....

Both were very huge...and Yanks bats ZZZZZzzzzzz just make it worse.

Oh well, add in the Teixeira loss and its all she wrote. So be it. Was an interesting year....and Red Sox not making it makes me sleep well at night. LOL:lol:

(Also, whats funny is I won my Fantasy BB League based largely on the success of CJ Wilson (24th round) all year...and FA signing of Tommy Hunter as spot starts.)

    Something that's not noted enough.
All season long, its been somebody different stepping up for the Rangers.
    Elvis is a MANCHILD!
IIRC youngest player to ever start in a post season game.
Cruz was hurt a large part of the season, but still seemed to always do something big while in, oh yeah! And I imagine as much as anything that was a huge F-You to the punky-brewster aholes that smacked his glove.
    KARMA!!!!

I am very happy for Nolan Ryan and the fans of Tex Rangers. They are clearly on the right path, making moves (like they never used to make in season) and especially Ryan's (and Maddux's) attitudes about pitch counts and working deep. Good for the game.

I don't think that's correct. I believe Andruw Jones was the youngest to ever start a playoff game, he was 19 in 1996 while Andrus is already 21 years old. Unless of course someone is/was lying about their real age.

There's simply so much going on in that picture that instead of commenting I think we should hold a moment of silence and pray that this isn't what America is coming too.

Right, Nolan Ryan has been a magician in regards to personel.
This entire roster has been playing on a promise and a prayer.
Seeing as how they started out with the a-hole owner filing bankruptcy (I bet Tom Hicks commits suicide before the year is over) and the players really didn't let it distract them.
Well, now Nolan is not only GM but partial owner AND has a record 3+ billion dollar TV contract, a very very young team and success. It will be interesting to see how long this goes.
Once again, I have always liked Nolan Ryan, and always had a soft spot for the Rangers. I am actually a transplated D-Backs fan that grew up watching all the Dodger greats play for the Albuquerque Dukes before they were even Dodgers...yet always hated the Dodgers themselves.
Its just DAMN good to see David knock off goliath.
Not done yet, and I have a bad feeling this might still go 7, but to even be in the position they are now is a good feeling for little ole Texas Rangers and the benevolent fans that have been very faithful for a long time.

I agree but the fact is that there still is a rivarily between them.....old school rivariles just dont disappear because the older generation of guys arent there do they?? I would argue that more people watched basketball back in the 80's-90's than now...

Again this is meaningless because baseball as a whole has dipped, their simply isnt the viewership for it anymore...USA/Ghana out drew everything except NASCAR this year...does that mean soccer is the most popular sport?? Hardly....

People are getting bored of watch either the Yankees win or lose...I have never heard anybody talk about the importance of a New York team win, thats a stretch....if you have been listening to TBS, it is clear they want Texas to win....to each his own...

Hey maybe the names come out someday and we will see, but until then it is just my opinion....

    Jermain Dye too no??

Yeah goo for them...you know Nolan is going to do the right things to put that franchise in a place to be successful for years to come...move over Angles....

Puuuuulease RF, while those guys are tools that deserved to get *****slapped by my daughter, you act as if Fenway is some bastonge of purity hahahahahahah.....yeah them and their thousands of out of town wasted college kids, swearing every other word....

I think it's nice to give Nolan Ryan credit, surely he deserves it, but how come no one is praising Jon Daniels at all? Since he made that terrible Adrian Gonzalez & Chris Young for Adam Eaton & Japanese Reliever #4 (Ostunka I believe was his name) he's been one of the better GMs in baseball. He made that huge Teixeira & Wil Ohman for Elvis Andrus, Jarrod Saltalamacchia, Netali Feliz and Matt Harrison deal, traded for Josh Hamilton, traded for Nelson Cruz, traded Eric Gagne before he imploded for David Murphy and Engel Beltre (who's looking like he could be a legit OF prospect), made the Cliff Lee deal, got Jeff Francoeur (!!!!), stock piled the farm system, etc etc. I think he needs to get as his props too for helping build up this Texas team.

Cause I for one think Daniels doesnt pull off anything without Ryan's oversight and blessing....so my props goes to Nolan. I wonder behind the scenes exactly how much of this is Daniels? I just have to think Nolan is calling the shots!

Nah Jermaine was singing with Tito, Michael and Janet when he was 19. He was 22 when he first broke into the big leagues so no.

I don't defend how the Fenway Park crowd acts, I've been on record countless times on this forum alone that I think there's a problem with the 'fans' going to Sox games nowadays. I never even brought up the Red Sox in that comment either so I don't know how you think I act like Fenway fans are above YS fans. Like any fan base in any sport there are good fans and bad fans.

    Well this is scary...

According to the New York Post, Alex Rodriguez was the target of a fan that ran onto the field in Game 3 of the ALCS.

Scary stuff. According to the report, Grim LeRogue, 33, wanted to confront Rodriguez in regards to his romantic relationship with Cameron Diaz. He ran onto the field carrying five pictures -- including one of Rodriguez with an X scrawled across his face and a gun pointed at his head. LeRogue was unarmed at the time, but thankfully security was able to get to him before he did anything crazy.

Nolan Ryan was hired as team President in Feb of 2008, almost all of those moves were made before 2008. He probably had his hand in the Lee move no doubt but to discredit Daniels is wrong.

Here's his wiki page of all the moves he's made: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jon_Daniels

I just dont think Daniels has ever really been calling the shots, from Crazy Hicks days to now Ryan. I am not knocking him, just calling it as I see it. If he is calling the shots...he gets credit...but to me Ryan is the clear face and decision maker now.

How on earth do you think Tom Hicks was calling the shots on some of those moves, especially with the track record of him wasting money. That's totally not fair there. It was obvious Hicks was a clueless owner, no way he pulls off those moves.

While I agree with you Ryan is the clear face and probably has the ultimate say now, I still think Daniels is the one at least laying the ground work for signing and trades before going to Ryan to get it signed off. I guess we'll see if Daniels has any power. He's going to be a hot name soon and if he leaves Texas for another team (like the Mets for example) then we'll know how much (or in this case how little) power he actually had.

I'm surprised that Girardi isn't getting killed this morning.

Putting the go-ahead run on base in the sixth inning of a one run game is the height of stupidity. And no, that's not hindsight, either. Its just dumb.

I see him getting killed a little bit.
I think what really needs to be looked at is the BA of the Yanks.
That's a HUGE telling tale right there.

I read around alot and saw one post (from a fellow Red Sox fan, mind you). Aside from that - not much, like I said.

And there's no point in getting into a philosophical debate about baseball metrics, but needless to say, BA isn't going to tell you very much.
