Did anyone see Rex Ryan's post game speech to his team after their bronco win.. you wanna talk about awkward and not connected...sheesh, weird man, I wouldn't be suprised to see that team fall apart... Unless he's got some secret majic way to coach, I dont see his philosophy lasting long with a team.
I assume they are ranking them based on the job they have done this year, correct? If that is the case, Ryan should be in the top 10, but not #2. His team is playing good football in all three phases of the game, they are 3-0 in the division and have the best record in football. However, where he would lose points is that the team is very undisciplined at times, especially on defense. That falls on the coach. Way too many penalties. I know Rex likes an aggressive team, but there is a line between smart aggressive and dumb aggressive. He needs to do a better job teaching that. I also think his game management can be poor at times, and he needs to learn the offensive side of the ball better. You know BB in New England knows 10 times more about offense than Ryan. All I am going to say about Sparano is that I am sure he lost some spots due to the 2 home divisional losses, as well as his team being completely inept on special teams in the NE game. Directly his fault? No. But the head coach is ultimately responsible and to his credit he took immediate action. I hope I don't get killed for this
I realize homers are going to have Sparano rated higher than he should be...but this is absurd. Lovie Smith, John Fox, Jim Caldwell have all taken teams to Super Bowls. Wade Phillips and Jack Del Rio have won playoff games. Not only has Tony Sparano never won a playoff game, I dont think hes ever been on a staff thats won a playoff game. I dont know where Tony should be, but I am calling him in the bottom ten. No way should he be as high as he is, certainly not above any of the guys I named earlier. He hasn't proven anything yet.
There’s more to coaching than the high points. Overall win percentage, team preparedness, readiness of roster depth, and a lot more goes into measuring head coaching. Jack Del Rio has indeed won a playoff game, but so what? His team is terrible week in and week out. The Jags are completely unprepared to play, inflexible, and unmotivated. All of that falls on the head coach. Lovie Smith is the Randy Shannon of Chicago. John Fox’s teams are inconsistent. One year they look like world beaters and the next year they’re jobbing. That’s poor coaching. Jim Caldwell gets no credit for inheriting a Porsche, but loses credibility for treating it like a Honda. And everyone in Buffalo and Dallas is having a good laugh at your defense of Wade Phillips. Aren’t you one of the people who thinks Sparano should be fired? Don’t call me a homer when you’ve clearly got a dog in the fight too. When the likes of Michael Lombardi, Gil Brandt, and Bill Cowher praise the Dolphins’ preparedness and execution, it means they have a good and diligent coach. You don’t like my list? Cool, you’re entitled to your opinion. But come up with more than “but those guys have won playoff games!” as a rebuttal. It’s senseless.
If that were true, Pete Carroll would be top ten, John Fox would be dead last, and Tom Coughlin would be middle of the pack, among many other changes.
When you read the comments for each coach, they all point out why they are ranked where they are with things that have happened this year. If this is an all time career ranking of the existing coaches, then it is completely out of whack.
I like how you intimate that I haven’t read the explanatory comments. I stand by my posts. This list resembles a power ranking of teams, not coaches.
Just as a sample comparison, Tomlin would be 1st, Sparano would be 14th, Lewis would be 20th, Ryan would be 5th, Cable would be 18th, Schwartz would be 16th, and Fox would be dead last.
True and that's the reason I brought it up. SD is a much better team than Turner is a coach and Shana and the Skins are pretty even but both needed to be higher. Anyway, I was just passing this along.
your not gonna get killed for posting objective analysis, it was a good post..when you wanna make it personal and tell us your vision of who we are based on limited data, then expect beef.
It looks like Schwartz and Cable are the two that differ radically from where he has them (25th and 26th). The others you listed are no farther than 3 spots from where the author has them. Interesting. I don't pay enough attention to the other 31 teams to make an informed opinion.

The downfall of his daddy. The Eagles would have dominated the 90's if they would have paid any attention to offense. Every team in the NFC East except the Cards walked off with a championship and even they seemed to **** on the Eagles once a year. I just hope the apple doesn't fall far from the tree.
