Well, that's how it's supposed to work. Jerry has to win his job back at this point.

I'd really like to see JJ take some reps at Left Tackle in this situation.

If he is not going to start, why limit him to just G right now?

Exactly, cause Jake has SUCKED so far. :pity:

    I'm kindve concerned about this.
This kid showed SERIOUS skills before getting sick.
Now he can't beat out McQuistan?

I don't think its about beating out McQuistan but trying to have the same line up. If McQuistan craps the bed then Jerry is back in the mix and in that case, I don't see them going back to McQuistan at any time. Plus, we still aren't completely sure where Jerry is in terms of getting back to where he was. On top of that, he's probably rusty and needs to fresh up on some basics.

Also, I think Padre was trying to say to increase the versatility of John Jerry, though I don't agree putting him at LT, maybe RT but not until he develops at G. You don't want him moving around this early in his career. No way IMO.

Maybe I'm in the minority, but I thought McQuistan played well against GB. Did a nice job of opening some big running lanes for RW.

Of course GB is nowhere near what he'll face from PIT.

Well, McQ is not a poor player, and he is showing improvement, but why spend a pick on JJ just to allow McQ to start in his place?

Was JJ playing poorly before he was ill?

I honestly haven't had a chance to see the game, but I wouldn't discount the Green Bay defense.

Maybe Tony just feels more comfortable with a guard with more experience against Pittsburgh...or maybe he deserves it.

Good for him, we certainly give him enough crap.

McQuistan is absolutely terrible as a pass blocker. Sucks to hear.

Not at all, but we have no way to tell where JJ is at right now.

Imo it'd be stupid to throw him right back into a starting role with full snaps.

If we have the depth then why not rotate him back in so he can get acclimated? Makes sense to me.

Its my understanding that McQ is the better run blocker and JJ is the better pass protector.....maybe its as simple as, this is our game plan vs Pit. The Phins are supposed to be a run team, maybe we are just reassuring commitment to the ground game! Just a thought!

That's what I love about this coaching staff, they start the better player not the one who makes the most money or was a higher draft pick.

McQuistan & Carey are the first options should Jake go down. Jerry at RT is a possibility, but not any time soon, JMO.

I think it's a continuity thing. That line has been together four weeks now. McQuistan is playing better and coming off his best game to date (check out the nice pancake block on our second play of the game).

We got all over Sparano for not settling on an OL until very late in the preseason because we realized the problems associated with that decision. We should not forget it now.

It's continuity and the fact there isn't a big margin between the two players right now. Not like what's behind Long and Carey anyway.

Against a bruising, stingy-against-the-run, veteran defense like the Steelers, now might not be the time to re-insert your rookie if your dead set on doing it. A fourth-year veteran has its advantages. Especially against Dick Lebeau's defense.

I think Alen has it. If/when we make the swap again, it's probably permanent. But right now, with Pitt, Cincy, Baltimore and Tennessee coming up.....don't be surprised if McQuistan stays in the saddle.

As for Jake going down, I would think Carey would move there. Might not happen during a game, but if Jake missed extended time, Carey would move IMO.

should have kept the old line up & used the new interior linesmen for back up until one of the principles was injured. very bad coaching decision, it all starts up front

    the journeyman over the rookie
should have kept our offensive line together
working the new interior linesmen in slowly, as needed
this may have been a self-inflicted fatal wound for 2010

I don't care, whoever is better should play.

Either way, having Jerry back just gives us more OL depth, which is always a good thing.
