the one horrible decision by henne wasnt the 4th but the 3rd an 8 with 1:50. you do not throw to polite ever...ever. like you said its situational ball. for 55 minutes you are right to play conservative in a field position game. with the game on the line you have to take chances. he will learn, hopefully soon

A run on 1st down on the last drive. That is setting him up for failure in my opinion. You may disagree, and that is cool, we just see it different.

Our kickoff coverage was brutal today. They set up Pittsburgh's last drive at the 50.

You took too much of that personally and never caught on to the fact that you just complimented Henning play calling.

There are 5 offensive linemen until you start adding more by playcall. Lebeau will bring anywhere for 3 to 7 and all of it was handled like it didn't exist. Now imagine yourself playing quarterback and never being hit. Do you think that you would have a little confidence to stand back there and pound on the ball for 4 seconds?

My statement had nothing to do with Henning, it was debunking your point that DCs will call off pressure when it isn't working. Certain DCs like Dick and Rex will NEVER stop bringing pressure, it is just how they roll.

    Tell you what,man.

I didn't read the thread(bear w/me) I like what Henning does at times but he IS too.... predictable. There are at least 14 plays that I KNEW exactly what he was going to do. This is alarming(and has been) for a while.
I'm not an expert but Pitt knew every play we were running for that situation we were in.
THIS is getting a bit old.

I've never attacked Henning but I have to here. He played for FG's twice in this game in critical spots. After the Ben fumble we ran 3 straight times from the 15. And then down 20-19 he called a pass to Bess in the flat when we needed 6 yards. This, while Chad Henne was moving the ball ALL GAME LONG. ****ing frustrating.

Also, The 3rd and 1 at midfield where he calls to pull Jake Long and we get stuffed. Can someone defend that call? We have the best LT in football and we have him pull when we need a yard? There was no need for it.

You NEVER, NEVER play for FGs. Especially against the best team in the NFL.

I personally disagree. You have to understand red zone D is much tighter and much more difficult to pass in because everyone is closer together. LB's and DLinemen are on each other's hips while DB's are bunched up. It's hard to throw in the redzone. That was purely situational against a Steeler team that hadn't given up more than 18 points on the season. Troy Polomalu is still back there and James Harrison is still rushing the passer. The easiest way to throw on the Steelers is from 20-30 yards out. They also lost their two run stuffing DLinemen. I can't blame him. It is damn hard to throw against a zone coverage in the red zone especially with a blitz. It leads to coverage sacks because of such little field to work with.

checkdowns are not by design, especially short of the marker ones..either no one is open, or Henne is gun shy in situations.

i dont think he's gunshy per se. this game i think he was. it seems to me that henne either becomes too conservative or too aggressive in games. but whats weird is he doesnt really mix it up. he's either aggressive all game or conservative all game. for him to take the next leap as a QB I think he has to read in game situations. there are moments in game where you need to be aggressive and others where you play conservative but you usually dont want to be just one the whole game long. the jets last year would send in a signal to sanchez of green or red. green was take chances, red was be conservative. maybe we should do the same with henne

Henning sucks and our offense suffers from it. They guy can make some great calls but a lot of the easy stuff he blows. You dont run Ronnie on 3-1 like that, you hand the ball to the guy who gets you 1st down after 1st down game after game. Henning out thinks himself every game.

Thats not even close to a good analogy. People accused of rape and murder in jail have been convicted already of doing so. In other words there is evidence besides the common "henning didn't do what I thought he should there"

And I'm making the point its still a bad point and there is no evidence hennign is worthless other then him not calling plays that people agree with.
