Yes, its the same one that said Calvin Johnson's catch was incomplete. The NFL is getting repettitive. His name is gene steratore . I refuse to use caps.
I really don't blame him. He made the right call in both cases. Blame the NFL for the catch rule. Blame the NFL that the refs have to determine who recovered the ball based on the video. It's basically like shooting the messenger. He is just the guy who has to execute stupid rules.
Wrong. It isn't the rule as much as it is the fact that the refs are on the field to determine who the hell recovered the fumble. I mean who else is supposed to make that call?
yeah this one is on the line judge who ruled it a TD and for he and the others who all turned their backs to the play to see who came up with the ball when there was a very OBVIOUS chance it was going to be reviewed
No no no! The ball was on the ground and he saw one ref signal TD so he goes running towards that ref blowing the whistle. When you're the head Ref, you let that play, play out. The whistle can be blown sure but the ball was on the turf way to fast to just run away from the pile blowing the whistle. Big mistake on their part.
He needs to be held accountable. He should be relieved from duty for a few weeks and NOT BE ALLOWED TO COACH ANY POST SEASON GAMES! He probably just cause the Dolphins to NOT MAKE THE PLAYOFFS. All three loses we have are AFC teams.. and we have more games like this coming up! Baltimore etc.. We can not afford LOSES especially like this!
EXACTLY!!..... and Thank you!! This is completely F***ING unacceptable at the NFL level!! These guys should be trained & ready for situations like this in the same manner that a McDonalds employee knows to take the f***ing fries out of the oil when the buzzer goes off!!!!!..... or that a guy in a wheel chair blowing on a straw knows to tear your movie ticket in half while telling you which side your movie is on.
It was a mistake on their part, yes, but I thought we're talking about the head ref. I don't think that he was the one blowing the whistle. Therefore I don't blame him personally, which was the intend of the original post. Given the situation that one of his crew members made a mistake, he made the right decision and actually explained it very well...as he did in the Bears-Lions game.
You know what? I just had an epiphany. I am going to become an NFL referee. I mean, think about it. In today's economy, it's hard to find a well-paying career with high job security that allows a large room for errors and apparently has no need for standards. Who's with me?
you can argue the 'technical' aspects of both calls if you wish .... but at the end of the day - both calls were grossly incorrect. there is no doubt the Calvin Johnson had and demonstrated control of the ball, and if he hadn't tried to get up it would have never been an issue. there was no doubt that Big Ben fumbled the ball into our endzone, which means PIT could NOT have recovered it for a TD no matter what .... there is not one logical circumstance that PIT gets the ball at the 1 .... argue the technical merits if you wish, but in the spirit and intent of the game -- both calls were absolutely wrong.
Well, the Calvin Johnson call, agree or disagree with it, he called it by the rulebook. Apparently today, he did the same. The only problem was, they ruled touchdown on the field, as opposed to a fumble, recovered by Miami. If they rule it fumble first and take the cautious wait and see approach, they have a chance to review it, and determine whether its a fumble or a TD. Since they called TD, then overturned it to fumble, they have to then determine posession. so my understanding is, because of the way they called it on the field, Steratore called it by the book again, but screwed up when he called it a TD on the field, instead of the clear fumble that it was. Correct calls in regards to common sense? No. According to the rulebook, Yes apparently. So the flaw is really the rulebook, and the fact that they called TD, and not fumble, which is apparently what they are trained to do. Let the play, playout as if its a turnover, then review to see if its a TD, not the other way around.
The play shouldn't have been called a touchdown to begin with. The refs should have been searching the pile. Not to mention it is pretty damn obvious we recovered our guy popped up with the ball in his hands.
No. He and his crew screwed up 3 F-in times. They blew the TD to begin with. They blew not following who the hell had the ball in the endzone...and yeah, that is DEFINATELY their responsibility. THEN, due to the fact that it was indeed a fumble (Can we all agree on that?) the rules clearly state it is a touchback.... They screwed the pooch three times on one play. I have no idea what you do, but if I did that, I would be F I R E D!!! It also bugs the living **** out of me that Putzburgh seems to be on the receiving end of all "Questionable" calls they are involved with. IT is absolutely ridiculous.
I've f***ing had it with the NFL and it's refs. It's all one big joke. It's all about money, not the integrity of the game.
You're right on the Detroit call, because even though it was 100% a catch, by ruling it was "technically" not a catch. For today's game I 100% call BS though, because if it wasn't for the dumbass stepping up and giving an immediate ruling when none was necessary (since we hadn't challenged yet and you don't need a ruling to call a touchdown), the cameras around the stadium would have seen who recovered the football and the Fins would have "undisputable evidence." He wanted his 30 seconds of fame though, so he made a call before a call was necessary, and it was that call that prevented the Fin's call. Either way...Miami fell on the ball 1st, Miami had the ball last, and the refs said Miami had the ball. The cameras were distracted by the only ref who got it wrong and that a$sh0(e should be fired.
I wasn't going quite that far, ............a couple of more beers and you have yourself a deal. Road trip.
I was under the impression that the play was immediately whistled dead and declared a TD (but I was at a bar and couldn't hear much).....so if that's the case, then a whistle shouldn't be within a foot of a ref's mouth when a ball is coughed up. Either way, the game should be determined on the field, not by a ref.
Except that the bolded part isn't correct in the slightest. Refs have been instructed to let loose balls play out. They did not. The Pittsburgh Native rushed to call TD while 2 referees were doing what they're paid to do, which is sorting out who recovered the football. Watching the tape, there is 3 referees who should be fired, plain and simple. As for the Lions. There is this thing called common sense. Refs should use it. Sad that the NFL needs to implement a rule that requires refs to use some ****ing common sense.
