The three teams that we have lost to are all 5-1. There is something to be said for that. It is not like we are losing to bad teams.

So what does that mean? You have to beat those kind of teams to win championships, not say "we lost, but we lost to good teams!"

But it's still a lost, there's not a asterick next to the 3 losses that say's "but the teams they lost to are 5-1"

It means that we arent a championship team.

I'm sorry... but is that a surprise to you?

We are a good team that lost to great teams. And on 2 of the 3 losses, it came down to the final few plays.

    It happens...

Yea no kidding. That's what I'm trying to tell the OP.

I don't care if it came down to the last second. There's no consolation prizes in the NFL.

Great. So the Phins are okay at beating nobodies but can't hang with the real teams.

its one thing to lose by getting outplayed and being able to say, we didnt deserve it, etc. however, when the refs take the game away, i feel like ****. this loss knowing our fins luck, will be the one game that kees us out of the postseason.

Can't hang with the real teams? We lost to the Steelers by 1 point on a very poor call, and to the Jets with a chance to tie at the end.

Who we lost to and how we lost , shows to me , that we can compete and win , and should despite still needing some talent upgrade , but moreso that WE hinder our chances to win .... that is HUGELY frustrating.

Which in the end = lost!

If only we had a playmaker on offense. We need a scat-back player ala P Harvin. One that can take it to the house with any touch.

Ok? Trust me, I'm pissed we lost. I don't take comfort in moral victories, but to say we can't hang with good teams is asinine.

You are 100% correct about that.

    However....

I don't know that anyone thought we were in the hunt to win a championship this year. I certainly didn't. Not at all.

I went into this year hoping for a playoff appearance and that's it.
That was our best scenario going in IMO with the youth and still having some holes to fill.

I think the point Mroz was trying to make is that regardless of being 3-3 this team has played a hell schedule to start and they've played all these projected superbowl contenders very tough. Even the Pats game was toe to toe until the Special teams meltdown that caused the implosion.

It's a good sign for this team to be 3-3 this way.
They are right there and have the talent to play with the big boys.
I agree with that sentiment. It is a good signs.

I felt at this point in the season we'd be 2-4 or 3-3.
Its just weird how it worked out.

I thought we would take both the Jets and Pats at home
Losing one of those would cause the 2-4.

I was positive we'd beat Buff. in Buff. but I never imagined we'd take Minny in Minny and Green Bay in Lambeau.

Steelers I never even thought we'd be in the game honestly.
They are the best team in the league IMO hands down and we took them the distance.

There IS some positive in that looking forward into this season and especially the next.

I see a lot of consolation in the fact that the Fins played tough against three great teams...you think people here give a s^&t about what record books will say five years down the line? If you're not a Fin fan regardless of whether they win or lose, then you're not a fan at all. Maybe you should post here instead- http://www.fanpop.com/spots/barney-and-friends Barney always wins!

They played well, didn't pull it out, and today starts another week. If they lost 72-0 I'd be worried that the season was over completely, but since they stood toe to toe with the best team in football I'm confident that they will deliver an ***-whooping to Cinci next week. If you can't see that, then there's nothing else to say.

It means that we have the foundation for a great team. We are just not there yet. To be honest I am not sure what it is going to take to get over the hump or if this coaching staff is the staff that is going to get us there. However I feel we are moving in the right direction. For now...

neither the jets or the steelers walked away thinking they were all that much better than us after they beat us. For a young team, that's good news. We're still learning how to win and it's unfortunate that our schedule is so rough, but we're not down and out.

Assuming there is football next year.

I never like to look to much to "next year". I am old, and I realized along time ago with the Fins, next season never seems to get here. We were promised we'd get there with JJ.

People were predicting a SB with Saban in his second season. "Next season" is a myth.

Unfortunately, I dont know what else we fans can do.

I hope that the ownership will make the changes necessary for this team to compete. I doubt it, but I will continue to hope for it.

we r a young inexp team who played 2 top teams down to the wire & played the third team = in 2 phases But were blown out in the 3rd phase.

young teams need to learn how to win. spec teams cannot be an achilles heal either. our spec teams have us starting behind the 8 ball @ the start, hard to overcome. i mean we take the lead then let them start needing only 15 yds or so for a lead changing fg & thus risking big play trying to get 3 n out.

Please...can we stop with this nonsense?

I've been hearing that every year for 25 years now. I'm tired of being told what a great "foundation" we have, only to see it crumble. Every year another it's another excuse and "we're so close".

Enough talk. It's long overdue time for results.

I get the mentality you're in right now.
    I do no doubt.

You have to realize though that all that talk the last decade was backed up by failed drafts and FA moves.

A team has to build to get good that's just a fact.
I think this team is building right this time although they have made some recent flubs in the draft as well.
Nonetheless the team is collecting talent.
Not there yet but the Phins are finally filling crucial areas with talent.
I get why Mroz posted the thread based on that.

PLEASE...can we stop with the absolutely ******ed notion that if you're not a complete homer you're "not a fan"? I'm been a fan since I was 5 years old in 1967, and I have the effin logo tattooed on my arm. I think there's been a few times that the team has sucked over the course of the last 44 years. Am I still a fan? I'm here aren't I?

And again, there's no consolation prizes in sports. We stood toe to toe and lost means lost. No one cares how or why.

We've played 6 games. Struggled to beat Buffalo, struggled to beat a bad Minnesota team, lost to a wounded Jets team, got our asses handed to us by NE, beat a wounded Packers team, and lost to the Steelers.

You have to see it from that perspective. The table was set for this team to be 4-2 or 5-1, and they didn't get it done, and everyone's taking consolation in 3-3?

Okay so we put an ***-whooping on Cincy. Big deal. When we beat a team with a winning record, THEN I'll start to get excited. Until then, I'm not going to be happy with "a good effort".

And yes, I'll STILL be a fan.

I fully understand that bro. Read what I said. That's all I've been hearing since 1985.

Over the course of that time we've been "building a foundation" almost every year.

Maybe it's time for a new contractor? :wink2:

It's been a frustrating ride as a Phins fan over that time period you're referencing. Were old timers and have seen it all just about.

We've seen a wasted HOF QB
A wasted championship caliber Defense after that.
Then witnessed a half wit coach/GM named Wanny lead us to total collapse.

During that time our the Phins have literally gone from a top franchise in the NFL to middle of the pack. I mean we have just one more Super Bowl win than the Saints now for Gods sake!............

    So I get it brother.
You wonder if we are ever going to get it right again.
    I'm there.

I've been dealing with disappointment since 1990 or so and I just can't hunt for silver linings anymore. I am also tired of 'we're almost there' and all of that garbage. Wake me up when we get there. If I'm still alive. I've probably only got about 50 years left tops.

I was a lot more down on the Dolphins after the Pats embarassment than right now after the Steelers loss. I'm glad I'm not a Broncos fan today.

But at the same time I share the continued frustration. The Dolphins have the 6th longest drought of a playoff victory, the 5th longest drought of appearance in a conference championship game, and the 6th longest drought of a Super Bowl appearance. The last three years the Conference championship games have featured entirely different teams... 12 teams have been in conf championship games since 2007... 37.5% of the NFL. When is it our turn to cheer for one of those teams???

The Jets were backdoored into the playoffs last year, and then went on the road to defeat two teams and only Peyton Manning stood between them and their first Super Bowl appearance in 40 years... led by a rookie f'n quarterback.

Ending on a positive note... Miami has not started at least 3-3 since 2003. I guess I'll take it at this point.

I have to say I delight in every failure that guy suffers. I hope he always remembers that he is nothing more than a big fish in a little pond. His little championships are amateur compared to what he ran away from. He set us back big time and had the audacity to try and claim that he improved us.

I have been a Dolphins fan for my "entire life"... I have dealt with more Dolphins disappointment then any fan of any team could or should have to. If you are really that tired of the Fins then go root for another team. May I suggest the Jets?

Look, we are frustrated with the Fins but we are also less than 20 games into the career of our QB. We have one of the youngest teams in the NFL. There is talent to build around in Miami. The question is are they going to bring in that one or two key pieces to get us over the top.

On a side note, for those of you that are SF Giants fans. Earlier this year one of their announcers said something to the effect of "watching SF Giants baseball is like torture". Now it is "Giants baseball, torture".

As a Dolphins fan, that is exactly how I feel. Watching the Dolphins play in torture.

We played well, but we're in an enormous hole to make the playoffs now.

Unless we win both games away at the Jets & Patriots, we probably need 12 wins to have a shot at a wildcard.

The AFC is brutal this year.
