Yeah. The yards should have be 4356. But I'm not sure what you mean about the TDs?

    q

i agree that the run gm is an equal culprit but i would add henne's inexperience. i think you are incorrect saying henne has shown he can score in the red zone. i think the correct term is he has shown flashes of being able to score in the red zone. big difference. he is not the consistent put it on my shoulders QB we would need to overcome a lack of a running game. That doesnt mean I'm down on Henne. In fact I'm quite excited about his progression. Its just that asking him to score touchdowns with no effective running game is too much this early in his career.

3872 yds and 21 TD's would be his totals if he averages what he's averaged for the last 6 games.

Would depend on the Interceptions as well, but with Henne's streakiness, 28 Td's would not surprise me, neither would 18, that is the dual edged sword of a young Qb.

But what would our record look like? That is the real litmus test to me.

good. why dont you confirm what i suspect and answer how we scored more against the two of the best defenses in football (the Jets and Steelers) then any other team that played those two with a horrible offensive coordinator.
    This should be amusing

If we're just extrapolating, his INTs would be 13 and our record would be 8-8.

henne will be a better QB week 16 then he is now. If anything I would extrapolate the numbers and then boost them a touch to compensate for the likely improvement in his game as he develops into a better QB with every game

We also happen to be the only team not to score 30 points on the Bills or put 20 on the Pats.

We played both the Jets and Steelers while they were missing some important pieces and we were given plenty of chances to win in each game but couldn't do it.

Is it all Henning? No. Is it all offensive execution/talent? No. It's a combination of both. Your claim of "brilliant" gamecalling is ludicrous. He can certainly call some good plays, but for every great call there are two that just numbs the mind. The man has ZERO ability to react or recognize the flow of the game and make appropriate changes based on the situation. NONE, its insane. How in the name of god anyone can defend him is beyond me. He was ok as a temporary coordinator during Sparano's first year, but at this point we are utterly lost with him at the offensive helm and we will NOT achieve any meaningful success with him calling the shots. Or lack of shots as it were.

we won the buffalo game. the only won that matters is the new england game. was henning telling henne to throw three interceptions? if you dont think henning is brilliant then explain how many yards we should have on offense. we are 13th in the NFL with a second yr qb and a non existent running game. thats brilliant considering what he has to work with. we should be in the 20s with most offensive coordinators. we are moving the ball. that is not the problem. the problem is the red zone and if you can explain what calls produce touchdowns when you cant run and you cant pass you get a cupie doll. you can only do so much with this team. the red zone problems will be worked out. they always are. but since we dont have a running game that requires throwing into small windows something henne is reluctant to do. and do we ant him to when we are ahead or close in a game. a game most times our defense is dominating. you want to take chances when the stronger unit on the field is the defense?

Well he's 12-9 as a starter, so I would say that he's passed the litmus test thus far.

In fact, he's close to surpassing Pennington's record as a starter for Miami (11-8)

And that says a lot in my opinion.

Bro, I suspect you can type that until your keyboard breaks, people simply refuse to believe that is what is happening.

To me, the solution is to repair the running game, if that means Hilliard as an HBack and Ricky as the One back with Deon Anderson playing pseudo Te, I simply do not care..just get it done.

BTW, Romo got blown up tonight because the rookie FB for Dallas simply did not block a blitzing Boley..think they could have used Anderson?

my big hope for the run gm is john jerry. i think he has the potential to be a run and pass blocker as opposed to just a pass blocker. if he can become a dominant run blocker, then the left side should be exploited by our backs and i think we'll be able to dictate a little more of our will on other teams. until then we have mcquistan and just have to see if he can improve. berger seems like a pass blocking only center to me

Actually Adamp, this is more what I had in mind for this thread, not a pro or anti Chad Henne deal, more of a what solutions could Sparano and Henning come up with to clean things up?

I like the notion of Deon Anderson sealing the backside pressure and Hilliard lead blocking for the other edge of the defense, and Lexxy has the best hands of the three.

What would obviate that is if Shuler shows he really can block well, but that is like waiting next to the mailbox hoping for a letter to arrive, it could be a month in arriving.

He's thrown 3 TDs and 0 INTs in his last two starts, which would suggest that you're right (although historically, he tends to have 3 steady/solid performances followed by one stinker).

That is decieving, compared to the opportunites that were presented it easily could be 6 TD's, which is why Stat Monkery does not tell the whole story.

not bashing Henne, not at all, just pointing out 1.5 TD's over two games with numerous chances on the opponent's side of the 50 yd line is not really productive.

thats a good point. I'm getting a bit concerned with lousaka polite. he doesnt seem the same to me lately? i wouldnt mind experimenting with our running crew to see if we can do some new things and get new combinations out there. shuler is a project imo. kinda like mcquistan. who knows though. mcquistan has progressed better than i expected

Well, the way I see it, if you have 4 Rb's who can block, and are not starting Tailbacks, and you only have 1 Te you know can block, it would make sense to find ways to have those 4 rb's involved more in blocking guys up.

    Cobbs, Lexxy, Polite, Anderson.

To me, Lexxy's hands are better than his skills at running the ball, he can block, why not stick him in as an HBack?

no Ronnie brown wildcat/jet sweep in the red zone and short yardage situation's.

Don't completely disagree, but would you believe that through 6 games Sanchez has only one more touchdown throw than Henne (1100yds/9TD v. 1452yds/8TD). While Carpenter and Folk have the same number of FG's (13).

Difference IMO is rushing and special teams. Jets have it and we don't. Rushing: Jets 955yds/6TD to Phins 642yds/1TD. Both defenses are decent but each has struggled this year.

If that makes me a stat monkey, then so be it. Team sport and we haven't put it all together. Not sure all the rushing woes can be blamed on oline continuity either (some but not all). Aside from maybe glimpses in the last couple games for Ricky, they've looked below average IMO. Also I'm not a fan of our RB rotation. Seems like we rotate them too quickly (every 2/3 plays).

I hate calling people out so I'm not going to qoute anything from this thread, but a lot of you have things a bit twisted when it comes to scoring. If we won every single remaining game this season 2-0 (meaning no offensive production at all, just a defensive play for a safety) would you still say it's a serious problem?

Our offense is desinged to take an early lead and burn out the clock, and although I definitely do not agree with this philosophy it's what we currently have. You guys see Henne going through his reads each week and he's definitely not looking way down field early in that progression (on most plays anyway), so how can you fault a guy for doing what the coach tells him to do?

Ricky and Ronnie haven't been as dominant as in recent years, but we have also played six games against strong defenses and pretty much benched the Wildcat. Remember, that was a good chunk of our rushing yards in '08 and '09...it was basically a gimmick to let above average players compete on a higher level. Saying no to the Wildcat over the past few weeks tells me that the staff has plenty of confidence in Henne to control the flow of the game, and since i'm not an offensive coordinator in the NFL I'll take it as a positive sign that the kid has more than we've seen so far.

Getting back to my original point though....the object is to score more points than your opponent, and Henning takes that statement as literally as possible. As long as Bess is running eight yard slants and Marshall is double covered throughout the game, we will not see many deep balls tossed in the air. That is solely on the coaching staff though...there's no way around that.

In fairness though, it would not be unreasonable to have assumed the offense would progress as the season moved along after the 2-0 start.

That is where the running game not being effective is a problem, the offense is not designed to not score points, it is meant for running the ball to equal points.

They are not blocking for the WC as well as they had the previous two seasons, which is why it has been shelved, with no passing component opposing teams simply run blitz and shut it down as there is no downside for the Defense.

Partially agree, when the running game is going well that is not a problem as it can produce TD's and impose it's will on opponent's.

That is correct Killer B's, and the difference is not even close, the Pats and Jets ST units are Top 10, the Dolphins will be lucky to be #27th, and that has hurt the Dolphins in the last 4 games.

I do think Nolan Carroll is the answer as the Returner and our ST is good enough to win a battle with another poor ST unit, against the Steelers #8 ranked unit..we were outclassed and it showed.

Though big picture, the ST produced 3 pts with the fumble recovery, but the Wallace TD was after a return out to the 47 yd line.

-Stat Monkey would say "but oh, our 3rd down conversion rate on our side of the 50 yd line is #1 in the NFL, and Henne has yet to throw an Int with 3 minutes to go in the half of any game we are leading in.."

Do think the running game has to be straightened out first and foremost, Sparano is not going to roll out of bed this morning and change his entire approach to playing winning football.

Something is wrong, and Henne is part of it. How much, I can't say though.

Chad Henne has certainly improved this year. If he were the QB he is now with the remainder of the offense as it was last year, he'd be doing just fine. But he's the ENTIRETY of our offense this year, end zone to end zone. Ronnie and Ricky combined don't have the yards and scores that either Michael Turner or Ray Rice have, and Henne is not good enough to step it up to the elite level.

I don't know that I can really say that's a knock on Henne. I mean, as far as I can tell, they weren't looking to get an elite QB. They weren't looking for a guy that can take a game over. They wanted a guy that could move the chains and have the run game pound it out. The weaknesses in the red zone and two minute drill that Henne has are magnified because we're not doing anything else on offense.

More than likely, if the regime is still around after this year, we'll see Ricky and Ronnie replaced and at least another lineman drafted. Henning is probably gone as well, though I think that he'd be much less slandered if we had a running game going.

As opposed to Hartline showing..what exactly?

And not a mancrush, just looking at the Roster and everyone on the offensive side of the ledger has gotten a shot except for Wallace, he sort of is the last option who has not gotten real at bats.

I disagree on Carroll, when I see him run, I see a scared player who is not confident in himself at this point, a liability on the field, and a pat white situation in the waiting, it was close to happening, dude was gonna get knocked out if he wasn't benched, Having Cobbs finish the game was the right call...we are in desperate mode when it comes to kickoff return's.

We've got to get our 2nd round pick back.

Did you see the calls that were made in the red zone after the two fumbles? I think that's a pretty good indication of where the problems are.

regarding the WC, the JESTS showed last year how to limit it by crashing in the outside lanes ... and everyone followed suit, which only leaves the inside which isn't really working for us this year at all in any set.

regarding the 'red zone' ... Henne and Brandon aren't on the same page -- and assume it will improve as the season progresses (might really have to wait until next year) .... but what we are really missing is another realistic threat in the RZ to help out --- and like Padre, i think that player can and will be Wallace because of his size ... he's just a much bigger target than Hartline.

regarding Henne throwing downfield, who exactly is he going to throw to .... with max protect schemes, there isn't a lot of options -- not to mention the whole defense shading towards Marshall (hard lesson in the PATSIES game) ...

i have to believe that every team is going to follow the same blitz scheme until we figure out a way to block with less players in order to open the field up for Henne ...

Henne is our guy .... i really think a light went on last week, as i said in an earlier post -- he really looked like Big Ben out there, minus the deep throws ... and we just don't have a Wallace or Ward in the fold .... Bess is good, but he is no Ward -- that is an entirely different level

to me what hurt the most about this past game, is that it likely took away our best chance to be 5-3 at the half way point .... likely be 5-4 now, unless we bring this same A- game against CIN, BAL and TEN, there is no team we can't beat if we can figure out a way to score TDs in the RZ and play like we did last game.

Lastly, use this opportunity to trade CP to DAL ... helps us out with a nice draft pick, and gives Chad a chance to start --- like the guy, but we just don't need him anymore ... Henne has outgrown him and needs a new personal coach .....

homer-ism & optimism I've been guilty of many times in the past, but I refuse to bury my head in the sand when confronting reality.
if it weren't for our defense carrying the team, we would quite possibly be w/o a win this season.
we need a QB, Center, another TE & a competent HeadCoach to contend in the NFL.
the honeymoon is over, its time to contend, not pretend or create an inventory of excuses for not getting it done
