I think Cincy is going to have their a$$ handed to them after all this crap. We're finally going to open up our offense and score more than 23 points in a game. Final score: Miami 24 Cincy 20
Statistics don't assume too much at all, especially as the sample size grows. An INT that comes as the result of a hail mary pass would skew statistics for a single game or even a small stretch of games, but it will become less and less of a factor when you look at full-season stats or even career stats. I.E. stat monkeys do believe in such nuances, BUT ALSO KNOW THAT STATISTICALLY SIGNIFICANT SAMPLES SIZES ACCOUNT FOR THOSE OUTLIERS And as for your example about dump off passes vs triple coverage completions: a) that also normalizes over time (Henne also throws a ton of intermediate passes and also fits in balls into bracketed coverage b) even in extreme cases like Chad Pennington, where the vast majority of his throws are of the "dink and dunk" variety, other statistics can help put his completion percentage into perspective (for example, his tiny yards per catch average) c) This is why passer rating was invented. To take these nuances into account. Ever wonder why more often than not, the greatest QBs of all time (or even in a particular season) end up with equally impressive passer ratings? P.S. apparently the Dolphins have reached out about this Henne interception. It might end up getting removed from his stat line in the end.
Where did you see that? I really hope they do, because that's bull****. That wasn't even close to being an INT and they didn't do their jobs and review it.
What the he!!. They changed it without even looking at it 4 days later? Are you freaking kidding me? How is it we keep getting screwed in this game?
Ahhh... nothing like getting screwed again 4 days after getting royally screwed. how that's an INT is completely beyond me. Whatever... btw... Im sick of hearing this stat monkey crap

Thanks, hopefully the INT is taken away, as it should. Truthfully though, it's not in incomplete pass either, it's a fumble. The ball gets knocked out of Henne's hand before his arm goes forward. It should be a fumble recovery by Harrison. I don't care, as long as the BS interception doesn't stand.
Actually, if they did rule it a fumble as they should, Henne's QBR would go up because it's one less attempt!
Re: The Stat Monkey thing I don't think people here are blindly defending Henne because of his numbers - I think they're using the numbers in conjunction with what they see on the field. I know I watch him and say "This guy is ok. Maybe not doing as much as he could, but is still doing enough to win", and the numbers appear to back that up. But in Football, just like in baseball and other sports, stats should always be taken with a grain of salt. They should be used to support an opinion of a player, not be the sole determination of a players value. That's why CK's post about Wake and the pass rushing efficiency was so great. It took something we all saw, or thought we saw with Wake, and highlighted it with numbers. Just my two cents.
More or less on the mark, but I do believe that stat monkery exists (both ways). Just look at abideN703's recent post in this thread. It's a great example of a statistically insignificant sample size being used to make some sort of point.
