Armando Salguero had that on his blog this morning. Its merely specualtion on his part. I wouldnt take his opinion over anyone else's.
Im indifferent about the Jake Long pick, if were definately going that way. I think any of the top players we picked wouldved helped this team. Personally, I was pulling for Chris Long, because we need a leader on defense for when Jason Taylor retires. But Jake Long works because we have lacked an elite offensive lineman for farrrr too long. And looking back, as much potential as Ted Ginn has, he sure wasnt worth the 9th selection considering we were lacking the foundation for the team, a franchise QB(Beck is not going t o be good for long if he develops, due to his age), solid OL, youth on the DL, the very pillars of building a team. Ted Ginn is a specialist would be a good pick if we wre already a solid team, but we were lacking long term stability in the trenches and at important positions. A specialist like Ginn is not what this team needed last year. But since we already have him, its time we start focusing on building the foundations of this team, and if Jake Long is where we choose to start, Im on board.
Noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo Chris Long you ar slipping please no. O well Jake Long would not be a bad pick at all at least it is not Vernon Gholston
I think its gonna be Chris when its said and done. Chris is the guy we want, so we send out rumors that we want everyone else. i think its a little to strange how we are avoiding chris long like the plague.
by that token we are also avoiding Glenn Dorsey. So... This is a bit like when the Texans where talking to Mario Williams. Everyone and their mother where sure they where just dancing around in an attempt to bring down the price for Reggie Bush. And then a day before the draft, voila... it was Mario Williams. If you where a gambling man, and we could gamble on who the pick could be, I would put most my money on jake Long. Even though I would very much like to get Glenn Dorsey in here.
Offensive lineman are never a sexy pick until mid year when you are jamming the ball down an opponents throat and holding the ball for 38 minutes a game
I respect your optimism, but I dont think its gonna happen bro. I think you're analogy to us avoiding him like the plague is a but strong. I like Chris Long, but when I think of LB/DE as a No.1 I think of Bruce Smith and Julius Peppers. C. Long is not in the same league as those guys. I realize the same could be said about Jake, but his 'bust potential' is far lower than Chris' IMO.
Post 987654332215 on this very subject: I'd kill for either Long, I hope this is true bla blah blah blah. I thnk he'll be a franchise LT for us, a rebuilding team needs a solid OL blah blah blah blah. I dont think anyone on this team knows what the higher ups are planning. Anyway why is it that some people think that if their guy isnt the pick, then that player is automatically labled bust?
IMO, with the money involved and if Ireland thinks Jake Long is an elite left tackle prospect... it has to be Jake and there really isn't another option for the Dolphins.
There are real concerns about Jake Long's ability to be a LT in the NFL. I haven't seen him play a down in the NFL yet, but if I'm going to be giving up 30+ million to someone who hasn't, they better be worth it.
That's definitely one way to look at it. Another way would be that Jake is, along with Chris Long, about the safest pick they could make. If Jake fails as an LT, it would smart a bit since so much money is involved, but at the very least he would likely be an elite level RT for 10 years plus. If Gholston comes in and falls on his face, where else can he play? Just to qualify, I am perfectly fine with the team drafting Jake Long, Gholston, or Chris Long. As long as it isn't Matt Ryan, I will be happy as a clam on Saturday.
I have no problem drafting OL, I just think that we could select and equally talented RT in the 2nd round.
I don't understand why more people don't realize that. The dropoff is further for D then OL in the 2nd so it seems like common sense. Then again, common sense is just not very common these days.
Exactly I would rather have Chris Long and Carl Nicks than Jake Long and a guy like Shawn Crable (who I do like). We'll see what happens on draft day......
That's fine, but for the money he is going to be paid, he better be able to keep a speed rusher off the backside of my quarterback.
And with the first overall pick in the 2008 NFL draft,The Miami Dolphins select Jake Long, LT Michigan. In related news KB21 was found deceased in his home today hanging from a rope, he held a note that said simply "PARCELLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS! Jim Mandich also broke his neck attempting a backflip, he too will be missed.
he will. the first year will be a learning experience, but he will. Not too many OT shut out a elite rusher. LONG IS THE BEST PICK....don't be so bitter
