Wait a minute. Isn't the best team the team that spends the most money because they buy the best players? How quickly that changed huh? I guess the system isn't as broken as you think right?

Considering that Bautista ranked 5th in baseball in OPS behind:

    Hamilton, Cabrera, Votto and Pujols

    I'd say you're off-base.

Disclaimer: this post is to clear me of having 'pathetic homer glasses' because I said only Posey could crack a 3rd place team's line up. This post is not meant to put down the Giants in any way because let's face it they're 2 games away from winning a WS and the team I'm comparing them to hasn't played a meaningful game since August at best.

Comparing the Giants offensive # to that 3rd place team's numbers:

    Giants:
    Runs- 697
    Hits- 1411
    2B- 284
    3B- 30
    HR- 162
    RBI- 660
    SB- 55
    BA- .257
    OBP- .321
    SLG- .408
    OPS- .729

    3rd Place Team:
    Runs- 818
    Hits- 1511
    2B- 358
    3B- 22
    HR- 211
    RBI- 782
    SB- 68
    BA- .268
    OBP- .339
    SLG- .451
    OPS- .790

    I rest my case.

Cliff Lee has never pitched on short rest in his career, at least that's what one of the announcers said. I hope it's disastrous.

Their line up sucks in stats, but when it comes to scoring enough, they are the best. Literally. Look at the pitchers they have beaten along the way. Yes, Giants pitching is #1. They have a knack for scoring just one more than they give up.

Latos, Oswalt, Halladay, Hamels, Lee. Some of the names they have beaten along the stretch.

Again, bottom line is who cares how good or bad the Giants line up is. They're two games away from being world champions. That's all the matters. At this time next year no one is going to remember their offensive stats but they'll remember they were champs.

They've been talking about ad naseum here.
I would be very very surprised if he doesn't pitch game 4, I will leave it at that.
The Rangers #2 might be done though.
CJ aquired a NASTY blister that "blew up" in the club house.
Never a good thing for a pitcher.

Ray and Patsyland, not sure why you two have to keep trying to discredit or diminish the Giants success, but it's getting really old. You're both big time homers and need to take your useless criticism somewhere else. Feel free to stay and keep hating though. I think it's pretty funny how you seem to have no life.

Too bad the Red Sox didn't make the playoffs and you have to resort to trying to diminish other teams success.

Too bad he's not diminishing their success. It's too bad you have to keep attempting (with futility) to diminish his credibility with bogus personal attacks and blind homerism. It's not insulting or demeaning to admit that you're team isn't the best in baseball but have been riding a nice hot streak. More times than not, the team that wins the World Series isn't the best. That doesn't make the Giants run any less impressive (I'd argue it makes it more impressive). Little brother syndrome if I've ever seen it.

What is insulting is personally attacking Ray because you're tired of getting owned in every argument. His points are valid. If you wish to remain ignorant then be my guest, but do not attack him personally because you don't agree with it. Take off the Bay colored glasses and try to objectively argue against his points.

If Martin Prado was healthy I don't think the Giants would have advanced past Atlanta. But they definitely picked it up once they made it to the NLCS. Good for them keeping Philly away from the World Series. I'm glad to see that. The postseason is really just who is playing the best at that time. All of the teams are good teams. Baseball is all about streaks and momentum. Everything is recorded as an average. Things always average out. You need to be good and to be a little lucky in being at a peak in October rather than a valley. Philly peaked big time in September and then came down again. I don't know if any team in baseball could have won a series against them that month.

Teams that are built to succeed over a 162 game regular season don't always do well in October. A lot of Atlanta teams during that 14 year run fell into that situation.

Obviously he is trying to diminish their success. Who is the f***ing homer here? I'm defending my team, just like you or anyone else would. But the Red Sox are obviously a much better team. That's why they are sitting home eating popcorn right now.

Obviously the team that wins the World Series is the "best" at that point in time. I'm getting "owned"? Yeah ok loser. I'm ignorant now huh? Wow that hurts. He can take his "points" to a thread where somebody gives a **** about what he has to say. Now kindly piss off.

I wasn't sure -- you scared me for a second there, Lucky.

I actually think the Heat are going to win the title, but some of the compliants in that NBA thread post-game were outrageous.

Best of luck to your Thunder this year, though. They've assembled a real talented group in OKC. I'd love to see them knock off the Lakers.

Sorry for the derail, back to baseball..

Of course the team that wins the seried is the best team at that period in time.

So what, in your mind, accounts for the change? You don't think they played above their level for those two playoff games?

I think that if two teams play, the best team wins.

I have zero idea, without a fumble into the endzone, or a homerun that shouldnt be, how you can argue differently.

In a series, that Sigma goes from say.... 1 to 3+. Especially in a series where the games are evenly or quasi evenly distributed for home team advantage

If a team beats another team, they are indeed the better team. (.) PERIOD!!!
That is EXACTLY why they play the game.

Just out of curiosity, what "In your mind" defines a better team?

Remember something VERY important, STATS are for Monkey's. The entire idea of keeping statistics, unless very carefully controlled are bogus almost by definition. Studying any given outcome from non-equivelent statistical analysis is absolute CRAP.

Stats are simply numerically recorded outcomes. Stat Monkeys (to use your word) are people who rely solely on stats (outcomes) without understanding the process in which those outcomes were achieved. However, in my opinion, the person who readily dismisses stats and relies on "because I said so," is just as bad as the Stat Monkey in question.

With that said, my argument has little to do with stats. The team that plays better does win, but that doesn't mean they would win the next time they played. The Dolphins split with the Bills last year, but that doesn't mean that the Bills are just as good. If they had played 10 games, do you believe they would win 5 games? If you do believe that, then I choose to respectfully disagree and we'll leave it at that.

stats aren't for monkeys. One should always put stats into context and not live and die by them. But using stats doth not automatically render it useless.

Actually, when the Bills beat the Dolphins, they were indeed the better team.

It doesnt mean they WOULDNT win the next time they played either.

That, once again, is exactly WHY they play the games.
