There was no one between Hartline and the endzone. Lead him. Take a little off it and lead him. Touchdown. Or RIFLE it and have your receiver need to show more skill to catch it... annnnd the guy dropped it. sure he SHOULD have could it but who cares??? Make sure and throw a pass that's easy to catch for the guy. No one is saying throw a damned RAINBOW... but the laser passes will always get dropped more often than ones with more arc and less trajectory, all other things being equal. I undertsnad Henne is more accurate this way than trying a softer throw with air under it that leads Hartline towards the endzone (so he isn;t caught from behind waiting for it). Yes, it takes more skill. It also scores 6. Right tool for the job to ensure success is better than the more impressive tool that doesn;t get the job done.
you said people in carolina are happy henning is gone. i have shown you a good representation that nobody is happy with his replacemement. what makes you think we're going to improve on henning. the odds are we get someone worse
Hopefully we can solve much of this "lack of converting drives into TDs" by adding Carl Nicks (or Mankins) and Mike Sims-Walker in FA so we don't have to use our entire draft doing so.
i want speed added to offense. TE, WR and RB. Speed. Speed, speed speed. Get a couple of playmakers and couple them with the physical team we have now and we are untouchable
I had a couple of chuckles at the excuses made for some and the knife job you did on others in that post. That's alright. Everyone has their own view. All that I would ask is that you do not distort history while you are doing it. Was it just too convenient to leave out the fact that in 2005 they had the 8th ranked offense? I mean you were kind enough to include the years that he had a 44 year old Vinny Testaverde and Rodney Peete at quarterback. You could at least make note of the year he took JAKE DELHOMME to an 8th ranked offense and two playoff appearances. But I understand the myopic view. You can continue to hatchet. ............and Virginia is a Redskins market. It always has been and it always will be. I don't care who the NFL chooses to show on the local broadcast. And if those fans are anything like the actual fans in Charlotte - they are all bandwagoneers. When all is going right, they are on board. When all is wrong, they jump ship.
Oh yeah (says Tony Sparano).... does the QB have to read man/zone before he can throw, what if Brandon is doubled, is it worth the risk of interceptions, will Chad be able to distinguish Brandon from the other guys in white jerseys on the team, and mainly, how will Chad know how high to jump as he throws?
Come on... thats just ridiculous. There was nothing wrong with that throw to Hartline. Nothing at all. He needs to make that catch. No ifs, ands or buts about it. Henne got the ball there, perfect placement, theres no reason for Hartline not to catch that ball. It's BS to say he threw it too hard. Yes, its been a knock on Henne in the past, but that throw to Hartline, there was nothing wrong with it at all. Its a play that the WR has to make. I bet every other team in the NFL has their #2, or even #3 receiver making that catch 10 times out of 10. Not a knock on Hartline, other than to say he NEEDS to make that play as a guy trying to prove his worth.
apparently our fans dont care if marshall is doubled. just throw it to him. apparently thats the sign of a good coordinator. throwing into double coverage
I don't have an issue with someone not liking the methods of a coach. It's just when you start pointing out the fact that the coach starts the lace on his right shoe with the left lace instead of the right shoe starting with the right lace - that's when I start to take issue with the moment.
I wouldn't call it laughable to scheme a FB picking up rushing LBs, if they are pure LBs, and not Pro Bowl talents (like a DeMarcus Ware or something). You expect a decent starting fullback to be able to pick up a blitzing LB. I agree that when it's a former MVP hybrid DE/LB it gets dicier (JT)
Who knows. Hartline should catch that. But I'd rather have TDs than "should haves". So throw it softer with arc, or get a better WR. Or both.
Can we all agree there is a difference between no screwing up, and doing something EXCELLENTLY. No, Henne did nothing "wrong" on that throw. but IF he had made it easier for Hartline to catch, Hartline probably would have gone for a TD. So what if it's 'not his fault'. You guys want points or NOT? If your receivers are dropping your fastball why NOT compensate to give them a greater chance? (maybe the cooler weather affected their dexterity and feel with their hands, who knows plus ball is harder in cold weather, and more likely to bounce out of hands) Fact is, Henne DID take velocity off several times in the game. he threw it softer, with arc at times when he didn;t need to rifle it in and those balls were caught (the lone exception being Cobbs). Why did Henne do that? Is he stupid> Should he NOT have thrown a softer, more catchable ball when the space around the receiver allowed? What a fool. Why did he bother?? Maybe because it. helps. the. receiver. have. a. higher. chance. of. catching. the. ball. Basic stuff. Henne did it well a few times in this game. He is coming along nicely in beginning to do that. But SOMETIMES he stills pulls out the cannon when it would be better to throw the softer pass. Those times put his receivers in a position to have to make a harder catch. One they should still make, but one which they often don't make. I want TDs, not to defend Henne from any and all possible criticism just cuz the masses of Dolphins unwashed are huddled on his nutsack hoping to be led to the promised land. He's a good QB. Becoming a great one. but he CAN do things to perform better. Shockingly he is not perfect. And that includes doing little things to help his team win, whether they are "his fault" or not. Jeez what are, in kindergarten class? p.s. - for the record I AGREE it's on the WR to catch those. But if we want to actually score more TDs, Henne CAN make that more possible by doing a little extra (like the great QBs do) and being as WR-friendly as possible on ALL his throws.
how about that sideline pass to marshall early in the game? i know henne isnt there yet but he does flash. just hope he gets more consistent
So let me get this straight. You can't run a play action on third and long AND he didn't have a RB in the game on 3rd and 2 AND he doesn't use Ronnie Brown in the passing game. From this game: 3-2-CIN 24 (8:30) (Shotgun) 7-C.Henne pass incomplete short left to 23-R.Brown.
Well, I often rock the boat too, but not about throwing into double coverage. My beef is that between Henne and Henning they MUST make teams pay down the field for doubling Marshall!!! MUST. Either with a big run or a big pass to another receiver. Otherwise we let them take away our best weapon and get NO benefit at ALL from it. So, Henne needs to be more aggressive going after other throws when that happens, and/or Henning must ensure the playcalls give Henne a good chance of HAVING other open options. I wish I saw more motion out of Bess, for instance, to get him free more often. Also, Sparano and Henning must encourage Henne to trust his instincts at some point. He is getting there... but on throws like that 3rd down INT I wonder what Henne saw and how he felt about the reason he pulled the trigger? I don;t want him gunshy to go downfield because of INTs like that, but he does tend to make mistakes going downfield.
Sims-Walker runs a 4.35. Works for me! I'd love to win the SB, but if not, I hope we can trade back a few spots and pick up at least an extra 3rd...... use both 3rds on RB & TE...... grab a Safety (DeAndre McDaniel or Rahim Moore) with our 1st..... and maybe tack on Greg Little in the 4th. (which means none of this will actually happen)
Oh, exactly!!! I am SO impressed with Henne! Seriously. He HAS started to show great touch on some passes. IUt is clearly in his arsenal now. He drops throws into holes with nice touch! But, liek a young QB, he doesn;t always choose the right type of throw for every situation. I saw him make that mistake a couple times today and we could have had more yards/points as a result. Overall he IS progressing in this regard. just needs to do it more consistently.
safety? are we going reverse this years draft. last year i wanted all defense you wanted all offense. now in 2011 i want all offense and you're talking defense? i hate you
I watched the games. Absolutely NOTHING was dominant from the Dolphins. Considering you watched the games, WTF are you doing calling someone else senile? Fact of the matter is Ronnie has never been an elite back. Fact of the matter is that he's only had ONE thousand yard rushing year in 5 years of professional football. Fact of the matter is that you are touting 4 games and the fact the matter is he only had 989 TOTAL yards FOR THE ENTIRE YEAR. The fact of the matter is that he only play 7 games that year. Which is only a little different from last year when he only played 9 games. Could it be that the fact of the matter is that this staff wants him to play in December? I mean with history being ANY barometer, the man will poop out at some time in November.
Baltimore will be a very difficult game we'll need all components to be up & ready to play @ their highest level
What I love about this... and this game today is that if you really stop and think, if this team executed to its potential, didn't make silly mistakes, and played to their highest level, we would have completely blown out the Bengals today. Then when you think more about it and take it one step further, it just shows you how far this team has come and improved. They can and will compete with any team in this league, and I really have alot of confidence in them in any game we play. Never is a team going to get through a game making no mistakes, but even if we could make 50% less, and execute 50% better, this team would be lethal.
Thats what i think too many of our fans miss. we are so young so we are going to shoot ourselves in the foot but for the first time in i dont know how long there is no team in the nfl that can dominate us . we are so close. we just have to learn how to not shoot ourselves in the foot
I'd like to say I agree with you, but I agree with you...... and to think that this young current team isn't near it's potential is scary. We spend most of the time discussing being patient with Henne's development, but the fact is: half of our team is still developing. I cant wait to see us in a few years when everyone has "arrived".
That was my next point. This team is young everywhere. Aren't we one of the youngest rosters in the league? Its going to be real exciting to see what becomes of this team. You can see the potential everywhere. Add a few more big impact players next year, hopefully at Safety, and TE, and look out. It's going to be a fun ride, as long as we can be patient enough.
So many teams have young guys coming into their own while vets are hitting their decline to where they almost wash each other out...... but we basically have an entire team of youngsters who will be coming into their own while losing only a few to old age.
I just hope we don't fire Marty Schottenheimer before Drew Brees can get there..............if you get my drift.
I think DJ said that we're the youngest starting team in the league. Who do have to worry about replacing due to age over the next 3 or 4 years? Bell and 2 running backs? That's ridiculous!! Which is why I'm nearing the mindset that we need to start targeting major impact players of quality in the draft rather than focusing on quantity of picks...... which means trading picks to get who we really want and need.
playmakers. we need playmakers. mostly on offense but maybe one on defense. although if we can get a offensive lineman who is good in the run gm and pass gm i think we need that too
we were the leaders of that defensive bandwagon...good thing our coaches felt the same. Now its all about trading down, picking up that 2nd, and goin all offense, unless Deandre is the best player on the board once we do trade down... Dont think we'll be in position to draft the best player for this offense..Mark Ingram, but if its close, I would do everything possible to aquire the athlete.
A few posts on a forum is good representation? I watch Panthers games. The problem is much more than the OC. Matt More is the worst QB in the league. Their WR corp is terrible. Smith is on his last legs, and they have nothing but bums after that. The 2 headed monster of Williams and Stewart are seeing 8-9 people in the box and getting no production. So even if they are unhappy with his replacement, the vast majority don't want Henning back either. I'll gladly take those odds because I know the OC we have now won't get us anywhere. Playing not to lose never does.
how sexy is our defense? just pure domination today. thank god we concentrated on defense in the draft. now we can focus on offense this upcoming offseason
We will lose some talent to Free Agency. I can't see this regime (especially after Ross has tightened the bottom of the roster purse strings) paying to keep everyone. So... between our talent holes and the losses we will have to FA, I am not sure we'll stay fully loaded. We don't have enough draft picks and dollars. We need a TE, RB, Olineman, #2WR of offense. Kick returner. DLine depth at NT and DE. LB depth. A better slot CB. That's before figuring in anyone we lose to free agency.
