Well we took a good step forward today, and the jets losing also helped. But here is the breakdown If the playoffs started Tuesday: Division winners Pitts Pats Tex/colts; depending on Monday Kc WildCard balt 5-2 jets 5-2 So next week(i think) if we beat Baltimore we will be in at the 2nd wildcard slot tied with Tennessee. We really need this win against the ravens to keep our chances alive, due to our poor conference record and that they are in the hunt as well. But that is a 16 game season, in the long run our remaining opponents are as followed(c for inner conference) C Balt C Tenn. Bears C Oak C Browns C Jets C Buff Det. C NE. So the phins definitely have their destiny in their own hands w/ 7 conference games to go, and of the entire 9 games remaining there are in my opinion 5 less difficult games for the taking. So if we can beat either baltimore or tennessee, NE or NY and pick off 4 out of the 5 less difficult games, we have a good shot at this thing(10-6). But that is a tough task which could involve us going on a 6 game winning streak. All in all we have a decent shot at this thing, what do you guys think?
I honestly believe to have a shot at makign the playoffs we need to go 6-3 or better the rest of the season. So 10-6 is a good spot but still doesnt gurantee a thing.
Next two games, the Ravens and Titans, are massively important, we have to see where we are afterwards.
Colts i'd think Deej, they are so banged up that the Colts are not going anywhere, wereas the Texans are more of a threat I'd think.
They have to win the games in front of them and have the rest fall where it may. I'm not talking playoffs unless they are 1st in their division.
If we go 10-6 we have a very good shot, but your right its no guarantee. The only Guarantee is a division win and it looks like the pats will snatch 11 to 12 wins so a 10 n 6 will not hold water. I am interested to see if our offense will heat up down the stretch, and start to put points that they are capable of, if that happens I will guarantee a spot in the post season.
Definitely the colts because they have a weaker conference record, and if we are tied it will help us out a lot.
We have the talent to be a playoff team, no doubt in my mind. We need to have a good second half to be in it. Nothing better than playing meaningful football around Christmas. I expect us to have those kind of games.
I love the enthusiasm, but I am taking the ol' one game at a time approach. If we can take Baltimore out and we can get to 5-3, we will be in great shape. We need to beat a team we "aren't supposed to," and get a big win under our belts, I am hoping this is the week it happens.
If we can beat Balt and Tenn (which has already been stated), then we can start thinking about a playof run, especially with the schedule getting a little easier. However those "lesser" teams are not worth over looking. Detroit and Oakland are playing solid football right now. They could easily play spoiler.
We play 4 games against our main playoff competition (Jets, Pats, Ravens, Titans). If we can beat them than we should be in. If we can't win 3 of 4, then we don't deserve it IMO.
I just cannot not think Sparano puts it together well enough to make them DJ, of all of the ingredients on the Dolphins in 2010, Sparano just seems to will the guys to win games. 4-0 on the Road and 0-3 at home? That has not happened in the NFL in 28 yrs, but it is a sign of a really solid team.
So what you're saying is: If we win a wildcard spot rather than a division title, we're going to the SB!?
100% correct brother. Thing is, it's not really just an opinion as I believe it as fact. If we can't win 3 of 4 its not about deserving as much as the tie breakers will kill us. However, there is the x factor which no one can predict and thats help from other teams. Like this far out we might say they need to go 6-0 at some point but what if the Jets and Pats start dropping a few games, suddenly the path isn't so difficult.
If we go for the jugular on a weekly basis, like we did on that one drive where we picked up chunk yardage after chunk yardage we WILL be in the playoffs. Now if we continue to stall out drives with the resurgence of the failing wildcat then it will be much tougher to make it in. I'm still not understanding why we are failing at scoring touch downs. I do see Dan carpenter making the Pro Bowl with all of the field goals he is making.
Depends, I do agree the 2010 Dolphins do not do anything well enough to be a playoff team, except kick FG, but you can see the Defense is on an upwards trend, they locked down Caron Palmer and Co down in the second half Sunday. Palmer had 160 passing yards, 52 in the second half, Rb's were held to 3.3 ypa in the second half as well, if the defense stays on that upwards path we will be a playoff team, doubt we'd go far as the offense is not straightened out enough. 5 FG in back to back games is just not playoff caliber offense.
I think this year you'll have to be 11-5 to make the play offs and the Dolphins will be 10-6. Atleast thats how I feel although this is great news for us. http://www.nfl.com/news/story/09000...uries-in-loss-to-chargers?module=HP_headlines
Ask any player....any coach..... The one thing they ask for is to have their playoff dreams in their own hands. Right now...we do. Until that is not the case...the Phins have a great shot at the playoffs. We are a gritty team....
I don't know about us not being a playoff team Pads. I understand we aren't getting touchdowns, but we are moving the ball very well on offense, and have since week 2, and are at least getting points. You have to believe that eventually we will get it figured out and turn those field goals into touchdowns. Our defense for the most part has also been outstanding. Especially the rush defense.
The numbers mean nothing RR, +/- ratio, TD/Int ratio, Time of Possession are the real yardsticks for the SparanoPhins. The defense is improving, however how good can it become? Without the offense also scoring TD's we will, sooner or later, just get beaten by teams that can score more easily than us.
10-6 is my current expectation, could change of course. I just don't know if that'll be good enough for the playoffs because I'm building in either a 6-6 AFC record or MAYBE a 7-5 AFC record.
Looking at the schedule it gets kind of interesting. Could we get a gift from the pats if they already have home field locked up when we play them on Jan 2nd? That game might not be as scary as it seems. I think 10-6 maybe 11-5 is possible. However, some of these teams we would have chalked up as a w are going to be tougher to play, oaklad, detroit, and the bills are all playing pretty good ball right now. Should be fun!
Maybe it improves to the point where we can actually score points on defense. I would love to see some more points scored by the defense.
Our second half of the schedule is a bit more favorable than our first half. With as tough as the conference is, I put our chances of making it somewhere on the over side of 50%.
Nobody though the Jets were a playoff team after losing to Atlanta last year. Nobody though the Cardinals were in 2008 after winning the worst division and losing to all the good teams they play. Same for the Giants of 2007, one of the biggest underdogs ever. If the Dolphins start scoring Touchdowns they can be one. And who knows what happens once you make it. Games I'm most worried about: Home vs Titans, @Oakland[they are a lot tougher than we thought], Home vs Lions, @New England. Jets too I guess, but they've been unimpressive lately shutout at home vs GB and beating the horrible Broncos because of a 4th down facemask penalty, I'm way more worried about the patriots.
