http://www.profootballtalk.com/2008/04/22/weird-twist-to-long-press-conference/ Miami G.M. Jeff Ireland thanks “the CAA group” for getting the deal done, specifically mentioning Ben Dogra before mentioning Tom Condon. But Condon, not Dogra, is Long’s agent. Dogra primarily represents Vernon Gholston, who was the other guy whom the Fins were considering at No. 1. Despite reports that the Fins never negotiated with Gholston (via Dogra), some league observers and insiders strongly believe that they did.
I don't recall that when listening to Ireland speak this afternoon. I heard him mention the CAA group and Condon... but I dont recall hearing Ben Dogra mentioned at all... I could have missed it though i guess...
I'm almost certain he did mention Dogra's name. I assumed that he help grease the wheels, and that it didn't really make a difference since they said there was no leveraging involved.
You know when a team wins on the contract cause Condon's well known for not putting his signature on anything he's not happy with and will pass it on in name.
This is your typical PFT nonsense. What they gleefully fail to mention is that both Condon and Dogra work for CAA (so why wouldn't Ireland don't thank the people at CAA?) and that Long himself specifically thanked his agents (note the plural) during the press conference. It stands to reason that Dogra was at some point involved in the talks simply because he's heading the football department together with Condon and probably helped Condon in getting a deal done. There's no weird twist here.
