It's hard to tell but he was very good during his run last year. No head scratching decisions. no silly lineups or defensive subs. Plus, you can't spell Edwin without Win.

EDIT: Unless you're talking about salary?

The Marlins gave the Giants the World Series with Cody Ross. Got rid of Cantu as well. I think Uggla will be next.

Doesn't matter who our manager is. A talented team can make the playoffs with me as their manager.

Besides, it's not like Edwin is that bad anyway.

Uggla apparently turned down 4/48. If that's true, he'll be gone by the deadline

Hmmm surprised he turned that down as it seems like a pretty fair deal to me. I heard he wants a 5th year and that's the deal breaker. This is one time you can't kill Florida if they do end up dealing Uggla.

I really don’t have a problem offering Uggla a fifth year.

That's a big deal breaker IMO. I have a huge problem guaranteeing him 12m at 36.

As opposed to at age 35? Let’s be honest, he’s going to be on the wrong side of 30 no matter what. There isn’t a big difference between 35 and 36 either way, when you get down to it.

But he’s definitely trade bait if the front office opts to go that route.

If he starts declining at the end of his contract, I'd prefer to only have 12 million on the books rather than 24. In a perfect world, you sign him at 3 years. 4 is a compromise. 5 years is a boot out the door.

The fact that the Marlins are talking about giving decent money to a 29 year old is a huge step in the first place.

I was getting upset about 4 years. The fact that he wants 5 just about does it for me. I liked Uggla, but he's being really greedy right now. Trade him for Madison Bumgarner!

Don’t have a problem with that at all. I’m mainly hoping we bring in bullpen help.

Do you guys think if the Marlins sign Uggla long term they will talk to him about moving to 3B? I assume he's still a butcher at 2nd. Maybe move Cogs to 2B?

He was never really a butcher at 2nd base, although that is subjective. By most defensive metrics he was just below average most years. It's also worth noting that Uggla's best year with the glove came under Perry Hill's guidance, who was just rehired.

I think it's more likely Coghlan stays at 3rd until Dominguez is ready. Then you figure one of Coghlan/Uggla/LoMo/Gaby gets dealt.

Right I totally forgot about Dominguez who's great with the glove but I do wonder if his bat will be able to hold up there. Although he's still young but is most likely at least a year away maybe more. This is a big year for him at the plate. Everything I've read from a scouting perspective says that Uggla is below average (I haven't check his numbers) but it fits.

I honestly think LoMo is a keeper (although I admit I'm completely biased when it comes to him because I have a small man crush on him) so they should look to deal one of the other 3 when the time is right. I'm not a huge Coghlan guy, I think he might be very useful as a bench super ULT guy since he can play OF/INF and someone like him isn't going to break the bank in aribitration because he's not going to put up big power numbers. I'd probably guess Sanchez or Uggla would be the odd man/men out but the offseason is just getting started so there's still a chance the Marlins can work something out with Uggla. Maybe the 4/48 with an mutual option for the 5th year for 15 million with a small buy out.

The bat is iffy but what I like most about Domimguez is how he has adjusted (and dominated for the most part) in the 2nd half in each of level despite being young for. His glove is so good that he doesn't need to mash to be a productive major leaguer. Anything more than below average with the bat is gravy.

That's true, especially if the Marlins get the production from Uggla at 2B. They could afford to have a somewhat light hitting 3B.

Skipworth strikes out a ton. Has power, IIRC, but just strikes out way too much. It's ashame because we were one pick away from having Buster Posey.

    He’s on the trading block.

If we can’t work something out with Uggla, then I’d offer Uggla and Miller in a “take it or leave it” package deal.

You might as well throw in a bag of Skittles if you think it'll help. If anything, the addition of Miller might actually hurt your team's chances of getting anywhere.

I'm guessing his large signing bonus? That's why the 4 or 5 teams before the Marlins pick passed on him.
