Okay, now that I got that posting out of the way, let's talk about the 2010 UCF regular season and what we can expect from the Knights. Here are my predictions...

    Sep 4 South Dakota 6:00pm (W)
    Sep 11 N. Carolina St. 7:30pm (L)
    Sep 18 @Buffalo 7:00pm (W)
    Sep 25 @Kansas St. (L)
    Oct 6 UAB 8:00pm (W)
    Oct 13 @Marshall 8:00pm (W)
    Oct 23 Rice (W)
    Oct 30 East Carolina (W)
    Nov 5 @Houston 8:00pm (L)
    Nov 13 Southern Miss 12:00pm (W)
    Nov 20 @Tulane 3:30pm (W)
    Nov 27 @Memphis (W)
Conference USA Championship: Houston @ UCF (UCF - W)

Record prior to Liberty Bowl: 10-3

What do you guys think? If we can get stable play (and that's a big IF) at the quarterback position, this is how I see it panning out.

The team as a whole is pretty solid.
Unfortunately the QB position really isn't at all the position you want the biggest question mark hangin over a team. Calabrese showed the same troubling issues that Beck showed in his time playing early in the NFL. Jitters during live action. That is troubing as composure is usually not something you can teach or coach a player to have. He could grow out of it with experience but the level at which Calabrese lost it in games was excessive.
If Calabrese fails we start a true freshman at QB? Won't be pretty.

I will be at ALL if not MOST of the UCF home games since I have season tickets with them... ( Football-wise, anyways )

I was at yesterday's and today's practice and I will be surprised if Jeff Godfrey, the freshman Dade County QB, doesn't start. He moves that offense down the field and is reminiscent of Pat White in college. He just moves at a different speed. They installed some option today and he looked great doing it. Had about a 30 yard touchdown run in scrimmage where he just outrun all the angles. In passing, he throws well too. Puts it on the numbers. He has to slide around in the pocket to create passing lanes but when he does find a lane, he uses it well IMO.

Cornerback Josh Robinson is one of the better ones in the nation IMO. He caught my eye when I watched them last season against Houston and today, you could see his quickness because he blanketed every receiver he was asked to cover. He was only tested once and nearly had an INT.

I'm going off of numbers here but OT 70 moved his feet well and protected well in the skeleton IMO. The Guards and the RT struggled. The pivot did well in the skeleton.

Number eleven, the tailback, is tough to bring down. He just doesn't go down and he moves the pile. The backups, 28 and 24, are not that impressive compared to him IMO.

On defense, if 30 or 25 are out there as DB's, they are the weak links IMO. Tight hips and mental lapses.

Calabrese is not that impressive IMO. There were times where he didn't handle the pressure well IMO.

Are you going to school at UCF Allen?

Your assessment of Calabrese dosen't shock me.
He seemed to absolutely lose it under pressure last year and he did it at such a level that I just don't believe it's something he can overcome.

Did you see UCF giving QB LD Crow any repetitions at all?
I have continue to be clueless as to why this kid is not making more of an impression. He has all the tools and reportedly, he's really shined during workouts. It's strange that he's never really been a serious part of the starting QB picture.

I hope Calabres is not the starter at QB. He stinks. And against Buffalo might be a tough win. They have a very good team. I didn't renew my season tickets this year.

True Calabrese is NOT the best QB UCF has currently so, I hope one of there others will do better & possibly get the 1st string QB job...

Other than that, I've heard from several UCF alumni & students saying that they need to get rid of George O'Leary ( aka O'Weary ).

What are your thoughts on that?

No, not going to school there yet. After a couple years of CC, I will be. I live in the area though and the practices are open to the public until the 23rd, when classes start, so I've been attending them.

I have not seen a lot of reps for L.D. Crow. Only a couple times I've seen it. I've mostly seen reps for Calabrese, Godfrey, and the kid from Oviedo High. I think the picture is clear that they want either Godfrey or Calabrese to start though. Them two have gotten a significant amount of reps and between the two, I think Godfrey has made a bigger impact than Calabrese in practices. Godfrey just moves the team down the field and looks extremely comfortable in the pocket. He does not hesitate to pull the trigger nor does he fall apart when there is pressure. He just slides around the pocket and creates passing lanes for himself. Once he pulls the ball down and runs, he's effective IMO. His speed is good and he can outrun angles, as I said last night. There was one play where he ran the option and he ran inside-out. The DB had clear shot at him and Godfrey just ran right around him.

Off topic note but a friend of mine was talking to Godfrey after practice and he asked him why he chose UCF over Miami and he said Miami asked him to play wide receiver. He refused to. He said he "loves it here".

George was not in a good mood yesterday. He doesn't really do anything from what I've seen. Just goes around yelling. He threw Jamar Newsome, the RS SR, off the field yesterday for what appeared to be a lack of effort on the play but I was on the opposite sideline and didn't get to see it exactly. He also went off on the OL coach.

If he doesn't win some games this year, I think he could be out.

Buffalo's lost a few guys, mainly James Starks and Naaman Roosevelt. They will field a decent team but they won't be as explosive offensively IMO.

I've been working at UCF for 3 years now and can say that the O'Leary must go noise is getting louder each year. I would like to see him go and us get a younger coach in here.

I think O'Leary is on contract with UCF atm & therefore can't be rid of until the damn contract runs out... which imo, sucks

Also, anyone have any good ideas who the next HC should be for the UCF football team when it comes to the time to get one?

Forgot to add a couple things that I just remembered from the last couple days I've attended practice:

    1. The 46 defense was used on all goal line situations.
    2. Cover 3 appears to be the base coverage. There was also some Cover 1 and Cover 2 Man sprinkled in but Cover 3 was the most often used.

No, I couldn't figure out what time it was. I read 9:20 but I called in and they told me 3:20. I can't attend the afternoon one.

I'm going tomorrow though. That's the plan at least. I went last weekend and I'll try to go to the last three days of this week.

    Hopefully.

I went to the scrimmage today. Calabrese started with struggles. IIRC, he had an INT on the first series, a tipped ball on the second and a fumble on the third. However, led them down the field for a FG. Later on, he looked good and finished well IMO.

Jeff Godfrey looked good too, very electric. I was impressed by his quickness and quick decision making. He did a good job on the first series of throwing the ball, though the WR's dropped a couple passes, and set them up for a FG but the Kicker missed it. Later, he had some struggles and a three and out IIRC.

The number eleven, the tailback, looked very good. Doesn't go down easily at all and works his *** off.

The defensive line was disappointing today. Applied little pressure and that got the CB's beat quite a few times. Josh Robinson was demoted to second string all of this last week, including this game, as a motivation booster. George was quoted as saying something about Josh playing ST's and he didn't look too happy playing ST's early in the scrimmage. I think he'll end up starter though. 19 and 21 have been getting most reps as well as 22 IIRC.

Well here we go Knights fans.

If UCF ever expects to get respect and serious consideration for a BCS conference invites they have to start beating mid level talent Div. 1 teams like NC State.

    GO KNIGHTS!

UCF takes a huge step forward dominating what some thought was the best team in Conference USA today.

    Was a great game.
What impressed me the most was the push UCF's OLine got on ECU's defensive line. They dominated the LOS and were regularly pushing ECU's defensive front 3-4 yards off the Line.

Godfrey playing well and impressive for a freshman.
Defense had issues with ECU's spread but every team they've played has had a problem with it.

    Great game and great win.

23-10 at the half at Houston. Leaving points on the field however. First two drives in the red zone but a TO on downs then a fumble. I hope it doesn't come back to haunt them.

Yep this program continues to make strides.
Getting into an Auto BCS conf. is the only thing holding this program back. It will be a top program at one point. The school, the campus, the facilities, the on campus stadium already being planned for expansion as soon as we make a move up and the student population the 3rd largest in the nation, all the ingredients are there.

As for Godfrey, I was very skeptical about them starting this kid as a true freshman. I'm always skeptical about running QB's as well. Godfrey though has shown marked improvement every week and he really has a knack for reading the field more than most running QB's. The kid indeed has the makings of a real special player.

UCF nails down the Conf. USA East title today and will host the Conf. USA Championship game next Saturday at Brighthouse stadium.

    Anyone here going?
Anyone that is a fan of this program needs to show up and support this team against SMU for the conf. championship!

    Go Knights!

UCF is back in the top 25 in the coaches poll! Win the conference this week and theres a good chance we crack the BCS top 25 heading into our bowl game!

If we win the conference and go to the Liberty Bowl, it looks like we will face Georgia. AJ Green is going to slice our secondary apart.

Also, TCU as accepted an invite to the Big East today for all sports. This is pretty significant for UCF. The Big East now has 9 FB teams and 17 BB teams. Currently, the BE is waiting on a decision from Villanova as to whether they want/can move up their FB team (which they realistically cant. Dont have the money/stadium/facilities/etc). If Villanova declines, UCF is next up as an All Sports, as UCF would even everything out at 10 FB teams and 18 BB teams.

Promoting Nova in FB doesnt really make sense. It would be fiscal suicide for Villanova, plus... it leaves their BB teams at an odd number at 17.

However, Villanova is going to drag their feet as long as they can... holding out hope they can somehow figure out a way to be able to fund the move. They apparently wont be making their decision until the end of the 2010-2011 school year around May/June.

If UCF could join the Big East, that would be a big improvement for the sports programs here at UCF.

The next step for this school is getting out of C-USA and joining a big time Conference. That would continue to put us on the map as real contenters for some of these star recruits.
