pennington really waasnt that good a qb in his prime or on this team. I know I watched every game of his in New York. people seriously overrate the guy. the guy always had trouble with championship caliber defenses. his MO was feasting on average to poor defenses. The year we went to the playoffs we had an easy schedule which played into his abilities. Once we faced the Ravens, reality set in. Henne has the potential to beat championship caliber defenses as exhibited by his victory over the Jets last year on Monday night. He just needs time to get more consistent and aware. Considering the obvious improvement in his game from year to year there is zero reason to panic and believe he has hit a wall. If he improves from this year to next year the way he did from lat year to this, we will have our franchise QB and we'll never look back. He will never be Peyton but he has a good chance to be our Phil Simms
wanna know how i know you are ridiculous? -You say henne sucks -2 sentences later, you "support henne" -you go off about how bad henne is, and how pennington is better -BUT if he succeeds in ONE FOOTBALL GAME TOMORROW.....you are "all for henne" oh.....ok...... Spoiler
Chad Henne is a starting QB in this league. There is no question in my mind about that. I don't believe he reads defenses well. For met, that will come in time. That comes in time with experience, more so than accuracy does. The more he plays and the more times he sees things, he'll be able to react better. You mentioned that every time Pennington was starting, it was always a slugfest. What has changed? We are still the same team really. I think we rely more heavily on the passing game because of Chad Henne's abilities, but we still don't score.
I'm a big Chad Pennington defender, but I really like what Chad Henne brings to the table as well. We don't get the publicity for it like the Eagles do, but we have a nice QB situation with Henne, Pennington, and Thigpen. Can we please take Thigpen out of the discussion here? He isn't a better leader, he isn't a better passer in any metric compared to Henne or Pennington. The only thing he brings is the ability to make plays with his legs? Do we really need that? Has anyone seen the way our pass blocking has been here lately? It's been stellar. Chad Pennington's accuracy and leadership are unmatched. He's the best in that regard. My biggest issue has been, what has been the difference between our offense when he was leading to what we've been doing this year? Until that 96 yard drive last week, there hasn't been a single play where I didn't see Pennington not be able to do that. Those plays Henne made last week to Marshall truly were throws that Pennington couldn't make--those deep outs and dropping it between coverage. I believe Chad Pennington is the better red-zone passer, not just by statistics alone, but because of his accuracy. The PA pass is a better design with Pennington, because he sells it better and he does a much better job of allowing his WR to be able to make a play on the ball with his accuracy. I immediately think about the two throws Henne missed to Marshall in the red-zone where Pennington makes those throws--the backside fade against the Steelers where Henne just threw a bullet, and the missed throw against the Vikings where Marshall went into motion. With that said, you can see a shift in philosophy because of Chad Henne's abilties. I don't think you'd see our QB attempting 35+ passes in 5 straight games if Chad Pennington were our QB. I believe Chad Henne is a better QB fit solely because of our weapons at WR and due to our OLine's strengths as a pass blocking unit. I love Chad Pennington, and feel confident if anything were to happen to Chad Henne. However, Henne is the best option for this team right now. He's a solid starting QB and will get better with time with his reads as he continues to gain experience. With that said, he MUST be better in the red-zone and be more accurate in that area.
Just wondering how you've came to the conclusion that there are a lot of Henne HATERS here? I don't see it so fill me in please...
Serious, there is actually people who would like to remove Henne from the starting QB job? I think he's about met expectations that i had for him this year. Then again i didn't expect him to be Peyton Manning either.
It's not that. It's that people usually don't present compelling evidence to support their claims. When someone says Pennington doesn't throw INT's like Henne and then skips his career before 2008, the Ravens game and early 2009, they just hatin'. When they say Henne sucks when he just cracked 20 starts recently but you tell em Aaron Rodgers waited three years before his first start, yet they still want him to be Dan Marino day 1, they just hatin'. When you compare Henne statistically to the other starting QB's in his year and he's near even with them statistically with 1 less year of starting but they don't care, they just hatin'. When they bring up this supposed success that Pennington had in 2008 but they ignore that he never had a year like it before and that he only slightly shredded the WORST pass defenses that year but they ignore it, they just hatin. When you show that Henne has actually played well this year but the special teams cost us two victories and the refs 1 but they still put the blame on Henne, they just hatin'.
There's a difference in people saying negative things, and people being "haters". Just look at some of the posts in this thread. Nothing more than "Henne sucks, because I said so" with a few scattered other words inserted here and there... its quite awful really. Really makes me wonder why i read half of this crap anymore... does Henne have flaws, absolutely. Are there spots of brilliance, absolutely. Have we seen enough to make a judgment on the future of this kid at QB? Nope. I'm not even going to go back into what the positives are for Henne here, and why another direction is a mistake at this point, I already have in the thread... but its a logical post, so it's probably for the most part ignored here.
I'm just tired of reading through threads and finding all the "Henne sucks" comments. I figured I'd let that crowd just get it all out. In another thread, madeinmiami2010 came out of nowhere and said that Pennington is better because Henne sucks. I asked why he thought that. No reply. So, I figured why not give them the stage to explain themselves, and they have. With a whole lot of nothing. Its just blind irrational hate, and its ridiculous. Ask Bengals fans if they'd rather have Henne or Palmer. I did last week. Every Bengal fan I talked to said they'd rather have Henne if they had a choice.
Henne sucks balls, but he plays for my team, but I will still have his back and continue to cheer my team and wish them the best. A player doesnt have to be good to have your support.
Dude, HOP OFF MY SACK. Everyone is entitled to their own opinions. I'm sorry we all don't see things through rose-colored glasses like you do, son. And god dammit, HENNE SUCKS! HE WILL BLOW THE GAME FOR US. HE WILL THROW MULTIPLE INTERCEPTIONS. AND I WILL BE RIGHT HERE WITH THE PENNINGTON PRAISES AND I-TOLD-YOU-SO'S.
B/c most people never give a valid, insightful reason to back their negativity up..... nor do they attempt to address or disprove the vast number of in depth posts made by the Henne believers.
I'm not sure that guy is for real. He's either faking this to stir the pot, or he's 12. One or the other.
You like talking about sacks and balls..... and sucking & blowing a lot. I'm not insinuating anything by this; just making an observation. Anyhoo, Chad has yet to blow a game for us this year. Loss to the Jets: Henne deserved the win for his performance. (thank you special teams) Loss to NE: Brady was playing worse than Chad in the 1st half before our ST knocked the wheels off the bus. Loss to Pitt: We really won the game and he did a great job moving the ball vs the best defense in the NFL. We scored more points against them than any other team (including NO, Atlanta, Tenn, and Balt). Lets take a look at your "I told you so" Pennington: Ravens loss: Multi INT game and was the MAIN reason we lost. Falcons loss: was completely on his shoulders. Colts loss: couldn't convert our drives, 0 TDs, 1 INT. Loss was partly his fault. Chargers loss: was on him. Through 18 minutes could only throw for 52 yards while scoring 3 points. That's Penny's last 4 games. 4 losses that lay mostly on his shoulders. 26 legitimate total points of offense in 4 games (that's 6.5 pts/game). O TDs, 6 INTs, and QB Ratings of: 53, 84, 68, 76. (No, he does not get credit for the last second TD passes against Balt & Atlanta when the game is already over and defenses are celebrating in prevent.) From the info above, only a buffoon would think Penny is the answer and Henne is inferior.
You must be proud...... to have a pops like him and all. I know I would be. If he wants you sit on daddy's lap and talk about the first thing pops up, it's a trick. Seriously.
Well, I will confess that I have not read all the posts here. But I do like Henne. I would even go out on a limb that he *might* be our best QB option we have had since Dan. And he's still young. Let the boy do what he needs to do. Yes, he has some high expectation boots to fill, but I like what I see.
I've been a Henne supporter but how long do we wait? I see players like Sam Bradford, Colt McCoy, and Matthew Stafford doing more with less talent. Our offense looks anemic next to those teams. If their defenses weren't so crappy they'd be great. Oh wait, Randy Moss would've hurt this team, since our offense is so prolific. He might have been able to help Henne, we'll never know. But he wouldn't have hurt, it's not like we can score anyway.
He's taking chances with tight coverage and the majority of his INT's are tipped balls that WR's aren't controlling. I don't think Henne is the best QB but he's played pretty well in my opinion. I think it's a combination of multiple things that continues to hold us back on occasion
I am not a Henne hater. I just don't think he is a top quality NFL QB. Today the offense once again scored one TD. They average just about one TD a game. I realize that they have no speed on the offense and they have Dan Henning calling plays. Henne still has not shown that he has what it takes to lead this team in the future. I hope the Dolphins use their first round draft choice this year to select another QB for their future.
So, let me get a few things straight: -its Henne's fault Hartline tripped -Its Henne's fault Vontae Davis got burned multiple times -Its Henne's fault Dan Carpenter missed the FG -Its Henne's fault Sean Smith didn't get that gimme interception that would have led to 6 -Its Henne's fault the defense was allowing big plays -Its Henne's fault Brandon Marshall signaled then didn't catch it. -Its Henne's fault the offensive line collapsed multiple times. Right?
I don't think Henne "sucks" but I don't think he is getting better. He still has the same problems as he did in college for the most part. Great physical skills but very little mental game as far as pre snap reads. Great QBs WANT to be blitzed but Henne just folds. Poor pocket awareness, locks on to receivers, throws check downs when he REALLY shouldn't. End of the first half pass to Ronnie in the flat near the goal line for example. That was the only read he tried to make. Any QB can go 22-32 if its mostly check downs and his first read. You have a proven QB on the bench and a young QB who is simply not improving. Is 8-9 TD int better than 12-14 int? Oops make that 8-10 as I write this. He would be a nice backup. Bad starter. You dont even see the flashes of greatness you see in young QBs. Henne is average and will remain that way.
WOW 3picks Today and Overthrown TD to fasano. Were last in the league In TDs scored. I have been patient Im sick of Henne being slow. **** him Someone On here said it thiggy has Balls Hell throw 2 Picks But hell amaze you with DEEP balls Look at last years PIT game Nuff said. Henne sucks **** HIM
