Time-consuming drives are not the problem on a day when the last rushing play we called was with 8:22 to go in the 3rd quarter, and one of our two scores was in a hurry-up drive at the end of the first half. The Ravens ate us alive in time of possession... something like 22 minutes vs 38 minutes.
Friend vt dolphin said: In some ways...I think Chad Pennington may be that spark....he does bring a certain confidence to the huddle...and I think he makes very quick decisions. Hes had half a season to let his arm get healthy....and I think sitting Henne next week just might do him some good. would have done some good in game four might not be in this mess now
Well.... Gusti...then clearly this is a team not capable of long time consuming drives. What are we capable of? Because right now...Im not seeing how this team plays any better than it has for the rest of the season. Which means close....but no cigar.
Fire Henning.... who is an conservative old bag just like paul pasquloni, pick up Brad Childress or Norv Turnerwho will be fired end of the year from the looks of it. Hell scoop up a prospect OC and let him take a whack at it it couldnt be any worse than it is now. Give Pennington the OC job he might get the ball moving. I am really hating Henne right now but I can say its all his fault cause they arent letting the kid play.
Well put. That has been my biggest issue to people who believe we have this "conservative, don't lose mentality" on offense. Our playcalling just doesn't dictate that. Our QB throws for 35+ times a game. We've seen more 3-4 WR sets, empty back sets than we've ever seen before. We rarely keep Fasano in to block anymore. We run plays down the field--go routes, deep in routes, deep out routes, combo routes, etc. This has more to with dropped passes and poor QB play than anything else. The throw to Marshall, albeit incomplete, was the first chance Henne has given Marshall when he had one-on-one coverage in a few games. Also, if we are running a "conservative, care-taker" offense then you need more running plays and a more conservative QB--not one with 8 TDs and 10 INTs.
I'm not sure if most recollect, the speed, and virtual ease at which Pennington used to direct, and orchestrate the offense up and down the field, but on balance with todays offense, I'd say we could have been posing for holy pictures.
Well that and the fact that they called a rollout, and Hartline was the only WR on that side of the field. I mean... come on, where else is the ball going to go. Dont understand that playcall at all. Really though, with where that ball was, right on the sideline, if Hartline doesnt fall, thats probably just an incomplete pass.
