That seems accurate but I don't think I should be using the word accurate in a sentence that describes Henne.

    He's not ****ing inaccurate. He's a 64% passer. He's 8th or 9th in the damn league in completion %.

Interestingly, we took more shots downfield this past game than I can remember in recent games, but outside of the one to Hartline the rest were off the mark and no plays made.

Which is what he is told and preached to do. Sparano even said it this week.

Henne didn't play a good game, but he gets no help from the play calling and the leash around his neck.

And Reed was way out of that play, if Marshall doesn't tip that ball he is nowhere near the play.

I wonder how much is on Henne, and how much is on coaching. I can't imagine it being less than 50% Henne's fault (whether consciously or not).

The one to Marshall wasn't off the mark.

What other downfield throws were off the mark?

Henne is to blame. What percentage? I have no idea. But Henning doesn't seem to know WTF he's doing either. Why did they run the ball so little after the 1st qtr? Ronnie had 45 yds on 6 carries and a TD on the first possession.

It was a 3 pt lead at halftime. Christ it's mind boggling sometimes

I'm not a big proponent of the whole "if it hits you in the hand, you have to make the catch" argument. Actually, I think it's one of the biggest misconceptions in football

The INT to Hartline wasn't particularly well placed. Yes, if Hartline doesn't fall flat on his arse, it's probably not going to be an interception, but Henne places it inside instead of outside. If Henne places it outside, like he's supposed to, it is not going to be an interception, either. The pass to Bess that ended up at the one yard line was another example. Wide open receiver, place it perfectly and you have an easy TD.

Henne isn't inaccurate, mind you. But he's not being as accurate as you'd like him to be, either. If that throw to Bess occured at midfield, you'd have a nice 10 to 15 yard completion and no one would care if it could have been 17 yards if Henne just placed it a little better. On Sunday, it was the difference between a TD and a FG.

Henne and Henning both seem to have the same problem - one minute they look like a genius and the next like an idiot.

Henne will make a few throws that show he belongs with the big boys and then suddenly crawls into a shell of checkdowns or throws a stupid pick.

Henning does the same - he'll call an incredible drive and then suddenly go WildCat on 3rd down or call an ill-timed reverse. Or just suddenly forget about the running game.

It is incredibly frustrating to watch them be so close and yet fall apart when it matters.

This is pretty much it. He rarely hits his receiver in stride. If you watch the recievers half the time are twisting around to make the catch so when they get the ball in their hands they can't run with it. His development has gone to nonexistent the last few weeks. I'm just seeing hardly anything from him anymore.

Who cares about completion percentage? I'm tired of eharing about it. It's not leading us to any points or any consistency on offense.

It's a meaningless number at this point.

If your job is to catch footballs with your hands, and you are paid to do it, you should catch the ballif it hits you on the hands.

Naturally, there are some plays, where the ball may hit you on the hands, but, it's a tougher catch than others, and, I think everyone understands that.

I think in general, it's an accurate statment.

I recall at least one bobbled/dropped ball by your receivers too.

But the point still stands about your QB. To repeat what was said earlier, Marshall NEEDS to be more involved. Henne and Marshall need to work out together more to get some chemistry or something.

This continues to be my feeling on this from a gut feeling, from comments from Sparano and seeing the plays being called.

I firmly believe they are hampering Henne's growth not to mention waste a top WR acquisition in Marshall.

As much as I hate Rex Ryan over in Jetville I have to admit that they have the Cajones... with a Super Bowl potential team mind you...... to let Mark Sanchez loose and let him make plays. It's a focus of playing to win and allowing their young QB to grow and take his lumps rather than playing safe and coddling a young QB.

I do not like our approach at all.

Henne's aggressivness, or lack thereof, is a reflection of the entire offense. Other than Bess and the O-Line, I see no aggressivness from anyone else. Ricky and Ronnie are taken down by the first arm that touches them, Marshall is playing uninspired and hasn't broken one tackle all year. Hartline drops every other pass and or is always falling or about to fall. (Anyone else think he looks drunk?) Fasano disapears for entire games. Other than Bess I trust no other playmakers on our offense to do much of anything.

Which to me is the biggest part of the problem here. How can you expect guys to be fired up on the field, and expect them to make plays when they are being held back by playcalling and coaching. I'm sure no QB enjoys playing in a tight, ball control offense. When you're taught to snap the ball, check each WR in the progression once, then dump it off within 4 seconds so we dont take a negative play, and at least get some yards, its no wonder our offense is so anemic. It just seems like everyone on offense is just out there, going through the motions, nothing more, but sometimes much less.

The actual quote was from Omar....

    http://www.sun-sentinel.com/sports/...hins-ravens-one-1108-20101107,0,1339274.story

What that means is that if we give THEM a route pattern and THEY play their coverage correct then THEY know where the ball should go. It's the opportunity that THEY left open.

It's not freaking rocket science. It's not a rope around someone's neck. It's football. Defense cannot cover ALL of the zones. So what do you do as a defense? You hide what you left open or you leave open the simplest to defense - what is in front of you.

What he said was that they would not leave anything open deep. They played two deep. So WTF is surprising about what he said? What is the revelation? This is the EXACT same thing Dave Wannstedt loved about Jay Fiedler. He knew where the ball was suppose to go.

ANY week we get down in a score (New England and Baltimore being perfect examples) Henne has the opportunity to show you that he CAN squeeze the ball into tight windows. Afterall, the game is on the line. He fails miserably at each opportunity yet you people want to see more of a riverboat gambler!

    WTF?

If Henne is going to take that next step, then he's going to have to take some chances. This is something every QB has to do. Henne's make-up is not like that of a Marino or Favre who goes for it on his own naturally. Henne may or may not ever take that step, but if the coaches ever want him to take that step they may have to encourage him to take more risks. Of course, it may backfire, but the alternative is perpetual mediocrity.

The rest of it, I disagree with.

Here Brett Favre sits in his 20th year. Have you watched some Brad Childress post game press conferences? It hasn't changed since Mike Holmgren. Brett Favre does not always do what the coaches tell him to do. But that's on Brett Favre. He's either a winner or a loser but HE made the decision.

NO coach is going to steer you to the wrong throw. YOU have to make that choice when you play the game. And it's got to work or you will be fired. Otherwise, your career will be mediocrity. And it will be nothing that the coaches have done to you. You did it to yourself by not playing the game.

Henne's accuracy issues aren't a problem, until he gets down in the redzone. You're usually good with stats Stitch and it might have been you that pulled them up originally, but Henne's redzone statistics are horrible. When accuracy and seeing a play develop are needed the most--in the redzone--he falters. That's a major reason why we don't score TDs.
He missed Fasano yesterday. He missed Fasano against the Jets. He missed Marshall against the Steelers. He missed Marshall against the Vikings. He missed Marshall against the Jets. All throws that not only he missed targeted, but throws where he didn't even allow his player to have an opportunity to make a play other than the Fasano inaccurate throw on the last play.

That's my issues with Henne and his accuracy. This dates back to last year. Do you think that is something that gets better as he gains experience? I think maybe. The playcalls have been there for the taking but poor throws have lead to those FGs or missed opportunities.

By the way, when Bess didn't get in at the 1 yd line did anyone feel like damn that was it? I did.

There have been a couple (2-3) to Marshall where he got his hands on them and didn't come down with them. Generally I agree with you that he has been bad (spotty accuracy) in the red zone (so has our rushing game compared to last year). I do not know if it is something that will get better with experience, I hope it is.

I do know Henne's red zone numbers are surprisingly comparable to Matt Ryan's 2nd year #'s (when he "regressed"). Of course Henne has not had the same success early on that Ryan has.

The reason I chose that video was not the song. It was alot of things about the video. Number one among them is that do you notice where the blitz is coming from and where the ball is being thrown? Do you notice the similarity of the plays that he was running then and the plays that he is running now?

Every excuse in the world has been given for this guy other than the fact that he's just a kid riding a bike without training wheels.

Have you ever taught a kid to ride a bike? It's a laboring process. You don't know when to let go of the seat as you run behind him. He's accustom to those training wheels and you can feel it. After hours and hours of running behind the bike holding on, you finally let go. He crashes the bike almost immediately. You encourage him to get back on. You build his confidence back up by holding on some more. He crashes the bike again.

It happens over and over again.

But there is nobody sitting there on a lawn across from you saying -

"you let go of the bike and he had a pebble in front of him".

"You let go of the bike but this is a dirt road."

"you let go of the bike but the gravel was loose in front of him."

"you let go of the bike but you kept talking to him."

"you let go of the bike but there was a car coming."

No, nobody is on that lawn blaming YOU for every time he crashes the freakin' bike. But he crashed the damn bike didn't he. And what the heck are you suppose to do other than get him back on the bike. He'll probably crash the damn thing again. You know it. I know it. He knows it. But hopefully one day the little crapper will gain some knowledge about balance. One day he might ride that bike by himself. It will be a great day........FOR HIM.

YOU are just the poor sucker that had to teach him to do it.

to me the worst thing that happened to Henne is 1- this coaching staff and 2-Pennington is here. he is not Phil Simms, nor Chad Pennington -- and has the tools to be much better than both. he is not allowed to be agressive, so not sure why that is even discussed ... i'm pretty confident it goes like this:

call the play, make the read on the primary WR, dump it off to avoid a TO .... or we'll put in CP. and i agree with Reed, it does make it 'easier' on the defense ....

He's not aggressive because the coaches dont allow him to be because theyre so damn worried he'll turn the ball over. Well because the offense is so simple, defenses figure it out and guess what? HE TURNS THE BALL OVER.

Inside the red zone Henne is completing 54% of his passes with 5 TD's and 1 INT.

Sanchez in the red zone is completing 46% of his passes with 5 TD's and 0 INT's.

Flacco in the red zone 46% of his passes with 6 TD's and 0 INT's

Ravens and Jests seem to be scoring with their QB's being less accurate in the red zone. So, I don't think you're opinion holds any water.

The REAL reasons we can't score is because our running game is faultering and our play calling is horrible.

that's exactly the problem here...I think we've all narrowed this situation down to this: The lack of big plays, TDs and overall ability to make game changing plays comes down to one of two things:

    1) The coaching staff has engrained into the psyche of each player that his job is to "not lose the game", particularly the QB position, and this has taken away from their ability to be in the right state of mind when the time comes to make THE play. You can argue that Henning is more of a culprit with the ultra conservative approach, but you know what...Sparano's job above all else is to set the tone for not only players but his coordinators and position coaches, and he's the one who's always preaching "just don't make the big mistake".

    2) The players, particularly at the QB position, are just not what we thought they were and just aren't capable of ever making THE play when it presents itself...when the game is on the line and the ball is thrown right to you for a pick six, or your receiver is wide open in the end zone and you can't hit him...whatever the case may be...they just can't do it consistently...not all the time, just consistently making THE play when it's put right in front of you.

But here's the problem, no matter which one it is, we've got a systemic problem because a QB and the HC are married from day one, and unless the HC has some major guts, will ride his QB from day one all the way to the SB, or until he gets fired. One of the two will happen eventually. And yes, despite having all the hope in world for Henne, I'm down on the QB, but I'm tired of trying to concoct excuses. And yes, I loved the energy that Sparano brought to this team, but he seems to have fallen into the Dave Wannstedt black hole negative energy vortex known as the "don't lose" mental approach to the game and I just can't be hopeful that it will ever end well...because I've seen this movie before and I know how it ends.

Time for a significant change? I really hope not, but my gut tells me that's where we're headed, it's just a matter of how many Sundays we endure before we all accept our fate.
