Thanks to NFL shortcuts, I'm watching this abomination again this morning. Here is the list of poor execution IN THE FIRST HALF.

On the 3rd play of the game, Leron Mcclain actually takes a swing at Channing Crowder's head. I guess this was a sign of things to come.

    DEFENSE, first series:

2nd and 8 - Yeremiah Bell blitzes BECAUSE Todd Heap blocks. Todd Heap delays his release = big gain. It was Bell's man coverage assignment.

1st and 10 - The play before the TD was an interception. It hit Clemons in two hands. Why is that so important?

2nd and 10 - Watch it with me. Sean Smith is on the wrong side of the receiver. He has to get to the other side to contain the runner. He does. That's not before he has fooled Yeremiah Bell into thinking he has lost containment. Yeremiah Bell has to attack inside/out. He does not. Karlos Dansby has to attack inside/out. He does not. Chris Clemons has to attack inside/out. He does not. Touchdown.

    OFFENSE, first series:

I'm typing this as I go. I will look for the front that we gashed throughout the game. The front that we gashed was the weakside of what appears to be a 46 front. The culprit of giving up so many yards was poor backside linebacker play from Ray Lewis. So on the first play it was....

1st and 10 - Joe Berger gets a good combo with Incognito on the NT and then blocks Ray Lewis.

2nd play - false start, Jake Long

The second big run of the series was also on Ray Lewis. Incognito blew him up in the hole. Poor backside pursuit from number 56.

    4th play - fumbled snap

1st and 10 at the 48 we run to the strong side of a 46. That NEVER works.

The TD run was brought on by two TE counter run versus a 46.

    http://www.nfl.com/videos/miami-dolphins/09000d5d81bf1cf7/RB-Brown-12-yd-run-TD

    DEFENSE, second series

Drive starts at the 36 yard line because of a squib kick. WTF?

2nd and 8 - this is funny. They run the same quick hitch to Mason that we ran to Bess the possession prior. V. Davis whiffs on the tackle. Mason gets a first, Bess was tackled for no gain.

1st and 10 - the next play. Over pursuit by Dansby, Crowders does his best bull fighter impression on a cut block by Matt Birk thus giving up the lane.

3rd and 10 - I could watch this play one hundred times and not once would I think Derrick Mason made it beyond 10 yards. There was no sideline judge with 10 yards of the play neither.

2nd and 10 - The Todd Heap screen.... Wake blitzes because Heap blocks. Over pursuit by Dansby. Crowder doesn't wrap up. And Clemons almost whiffs. Result = first down.

2nd and 8 - The red zone run by Flacco was by design. The blocking of Matt Birk tells me so.

    OFFENSE, second series

This is AFTER the Nolan Carrol butterfingers moment. Boy, it didn't take long to screw the pooch on this one. It's this play.

    http://www.nfl.com/videos/miami-dolphins/09000d5d81bf22c4/Ravens-defense-INT

    DEFENSE, second series

Joe Flacco goes through a series of brainfarts (WATCH HEAP)......

    http://www.nfl.com/videos/miami-dolphins/09000d5d81bf22c2/Dolphins-defense-sack-10-yd-loss

Then their special teams suck too. Points averted.

    http://www.nfl.com/videos/miami-dolphins/09000d5d81bf22c3/Dolphins-defense-4th-down-failed

    OFFENSE, third series

The screen to Marshall was blown up by just a heads up play by Carr. He had that thing sniffed out from BEFORE the snap. If Carr doesn't stop it (or Hartline actually succeeds in the block, there was nothing but air in between Marshall and the goal.

Next play - Ray Lewis is AS fast as Anthony Fasano. Pathetic. And this play just reminded me to rewind and look for the 46 because it was a two back set with one TE. Nothing doing as it was a 43. I'm keeping my eye out for the 46 because it was the 46 that was gashed in the first series.

.........and this one is for DolfanMike. Motion took Hartline across the formation. Motion moved the corner that was on Marshall to cover Hartline on the outside. Who moved out to cover Marshall? Number 53... Whatever linebackers that is. Sure there was a safety over the top as this was cover 2 but a linebacker? WTF? He throws it to Fasano?

Next play - Motion between triple receiver formation and the Ravens are struggling to align BEFORE the motion. Three receivers take off verus man with Ed Reed over the top. If you know the route patterns there should be no question where the ball is going. Double clutch by Henne = sack = punt.

    http://www.nfl.com/videos/miami-dolphins/09000d5d81bf22e0/Ravens-defense-sack-9-yd-loss

    DEFENSE, third series

1st play - Chris Clemons is quite possibly the worst run support defender I have seen in a while. For someone who is so fast, he sure gets to the line to defense the run awfully slow.

2nd and 7 - V. Davis whiffs on the screen to Ray Rice. First down.

Next Play - Koa Misi whiffs on the screen to Willis Mcgahee. 8 yards

Next Play - Slow Channing Crowder gets blocked after a combo on mount Soliai. After a year passes, Yeremiah Bell shows up to whiff on another tackle. Absolutely no player defeated a block one on one.

    Field goal

    OFFENSE, fourth series

    http://www.nfl.com/videos/miami-dolphins/09000d5d81bf236b/QB-Henne-to-WR-Hartline-31-yd-pass

After Hartline's big catch, the 46 makes it's appearance again versus two backs, one TE. We run strong side for what would have been nothing or maybe two. But that Ronnie Brown sure can dance in the backfield so he decides to run weakside for two.

Marshall over the middle. Just once I would like to see this ball thrown before Marshall comes to a complete stop, circles his shoulders around, and then turns to run the other way. Just once.... Is that too much too ask?

Fasano cannot outrun Ray Lewis again. Pathetic.....

Wounded duck thrown over Fasano in the endzone.

    Field goal

Thanks for the play-by-play with the timestamps. I'm not sure if I'll go back and look again, but if you could pay attention to the second botched handoff in the second half? They charged it to Henne, but I don't know if it was the same problem as the first.

Thanks for the reply. Some of the time when I do this, I wonder if anyone is interested in what ACTUALLY happened. I get so tired of false media reports, I do it for myself. But I figure I could share some observations while I'm doing it.

I have a hard time stomaching a replay after a loss, especially one where we just got thoroughly beat. That's an issue, because my perception of what was going on at the time is somewhat skewed by the moment and I'm as guilty as anyone of making knee-jerk reactions. Stuff like this helps to keep it in perspective, as well as fact-check.

the henne to fasano duck in the endzone, i couldnt help but think the ball left his hand as a spiral.....and in mid air, it fluttered, (wind) and got taken off into the sky....it was so odd. i cant look at the replay from work, but watchnig it with some replays yesterday, it seemed that way....thoughts zod?

There is no doubt that wind had an effect on this game. We saw it in the kicking game for both teams in the form of field goals and in hindsight that may have been the reason for the squib kick in my list above.

So to answer your question: I could not rule it out.

and my theory, for the people bashing henne for laughing afterwards, is thats why he was laughing with fasano......he probably said something to the extent of "did you see that ****ing thing flutter like a kite in the wind!?"

but who knows....just a bad day of football

The thing that sticks out to me in this first half is the question everyone is asking about the running game. Remember that this is only the first half but the second series gave us no opportunity to get back to it.

This is one of the reasons I detailed the third series. I could not find a thing wrong with the calls. All three plays were poorly executed.

The fourth series was determined by the clock going into the half. We left 15 seconds on the clock to conclude that drive that resulted in 3 points.

The pass that really stood out to me, and I commented at the time that Henne may be injured, was the pass to Bess that he ran to the 1 yd line was worse than the wounded duck to Fasano, it was flat spinning when Bess caught it.

BTW, Henne could not go home last night, someone painted a goal line in front of his doorway and he could not get across it..

Go back and look at the expectations in the offseason. It certainly wasn't the SuperBowl other than our foolhearty owner.

When I get flustered, I go back and look at the column labeled EXP:

    http://www.miamidolphins.com/team/roster

Then I compare that to what Parcells left in Dallas. What was left in Dallas was an unfinished project. The difference between Dallas and Miami is that Parcells left his people in Miami. Do we want to remove them? I don't think so. Especially when I look at what's been done since they left Dallas.

We can look around with our untrained eye and we can speculate on moves that should or should not be made but we really don't matter. So I don't look around that roster and poke holes. I know this staff will improve the roster. They have earned that respect.

There is only one guy that nobody knows with any amount of certainty if he is the guy. That is only proven through time and HE has everything to do with his progress and the team's progress. There is only one thing I know for certain about that guy. I do not want him and his decisions to decide the fate of the staff.

Call it the Bill Cowher effect. Everyone gets stuck with a Kordell Stewart every once in a while.

I'm not sure if this is the most appropriate place for these comments, but I figure after having an opportunity to rehash the plays from yesterday's shallacking, you might be able to shed some light on my concerns. (Note: these comments aren't strictly related to the Ravens game)

Let me first start out by saying that I'm not really the most astute poster here when it comes to the fundamentals and techniques of good quarterback play. I don't break down film, so everything I'm throwing out here is merely based on my own observations (or to put it another way, the numbers might not support what I'm seeing - I have no idea). Either way..

My biggest concern with Henne moving-forward isn't so much his decision-making process, its his pocket awareness. He's an absolute statue back there. Now I know there's something to be said for staring down the gun barrel and delivering the ball to your receiver, knowing full-well you're about to be drilled. But can you teach someone the skill of sliding in the pocket, or is that something you're just born with? That's one of the traits you always find in top QBs. It seems like Henne allows the pass-rush to effect his game more-so than other signal callers around the league. Honestly, his lack of mobility is reminiscent of Drew Bledsoe.

Is this something that comes with experience, or should we be legitimately concerned?

I agree that the biggest problem with Henne is his pocket awareness. As soon as the pocket breaks down, he panics. You rarely see him slide to avoid pressure. It causes him to lower his eye level, and miss on plays available down the field.

Well its nice to have my thoughts re-affirmed.

What really drove it home for me was watching that pathetic SNF game last night. There was one play in particular where Ware used his speed to get around the edge and had a clear line to Rodgers' blindside. But like a sixth sense, somehow Rodgers felt the pressure, stepped up, and hit a receiver downfield. Now, I know Rodgers is a great QB and much more athletic than Henne, but it was the type of play that, had Henne been in that situation, he would have been drilled.

The runs yesterday told me that someone has put the bug in his ear to take off if nothing is there though. And he took off with really only ONE opportunity to make something happen.

The more I watch this dude the more I think he just knows where to go with the ball. It is an admirable job. Many do not even know where to go with the ball at this point in their careers. That's why analysts spend so much time talking about it.

    PLAYMAKER he is not.

He may know where to go with the ball, but he's a little shy bout lettin' it fly,,,,,,, guess i'd rather have him be a little safe with his throws than reckless but I am curious about what was available down field for him to throw to, how many opportunities did the kid miss yesterday??
