FYI- Voting is done by the managers and coaches in each league but they can't vote for their own players.

It's also important to note that Jeter didn't get a single vote in the Top 10 SS in Baseball in the Fielding Bible Awards, where there are 10 judges.

By talking to potential free agents? Every team is talking to free agents now right. There are reports in every paper and web site of Team X talking to Player Y.

You're probably hearing more about those teams because they happen to be talking to the biggest ones and they're usually the most aggressive in trying to make moves.

Jeter has been a great SS, and the hurts coming from a Mets fan, but him winning the gold glove this year is a travesty, he was average at best.

Remember the last time Beltre came off a contract year? I think Pitt should stay away. Even tho it's nice to see them exploring options and possibly spending money.

I agree. I think it's foolish for teams not contending to sign free agents at big money just because. It never works out well, especially with non-star FAs like someone like a Beltre. They should just use that money on the draft and IFAs and maybe lock up some of their better younger players to buy out a year or 2 of free agency. Like what the Rays did with Longoria for example.

Yes and Morrison too. Those guys would never pass up a 5 or 6 year deal for 30 million or so. Plus the Marlins could actually save money by avoiding arbitration with them.

I think this says more about who else is playing SS in the AL....Jeter is a good fielding SS when the ball is in his range, but the problem is his range...

Ahh yes let the Yankees driving the price up on the free agents for the Red Sox begin....they love playing this game back and forth.....I'd expect to hear some serious talk about the Sox and Lee as well...

According to Jon Heyman of SI.com, the Yankees have called about free agent outfielder Carl Crawford.

It would be foolish to count the Yankees out on any free agent, so this shouldn't come as a major surprise. Heyman notes, though, that the Bombers' No. 1 offseason priority remains Cliff Lee.

According to Tim Dierkes of MLB Trade Rumors, the Yankees are flying into Arkansas on Wednesday to meet with Cliff Lee.

Let the games begin. Lee's agent told the New York Daily News on Monday that he doesn't anticipate his client signing quickly, but the Yankees are prepared to make their initial sales pitch. Look for many teams to be involved along the way, but this free agent battle is expected to come down the Yankees and Rangers.

Hitting wise I agree but defensively you have Elvis Andrus, Jack Wilson, Jason Bartlett, Julio Lugo (just kidding) just to name a few that are definitely better defensively. Only the Statue of Liberty has less range than Jeter right now.

    Can you imagine this??

Sherman polled more than a dozen executives, and the majority expect the Yankees to offer arbitration to Jeter on November 23rd. That'd hurt Jeter's market value if he declines, since he'd then cost a new team a draft pick. On the other hand, Sherman believes that if Jeter accepts arbitration his agent Casey Close would argue for a ridiculous 2011 salary based on special accomplishments.

Yeah and because of his name. The managers and coaches vote for it, they don't care enough to study the numbers. They usually just give it to the guy that's the best player at the position (which usually always translates to best hitter at the position) or whoever won it the year before unless his defense just really stands out like Gutierrez or Ichiro.

The best GG winner was when Palmeiro won it in 1998 or 1999 and he only played 48 games at 1B that year. The award is a joke.

I don't know much about Justin Marks, but Dejesus is a stud.

Also, Rays declined team option on IF Willy Aybar and RHP Dan Wheeler. I thought their was a chance they may pick up Wheelers. But that 4 million is a heavy price tag for him...

A source tells Craig Calcaterra of NBCSports.com that Cliff Lee was "not terribly happy in Texas" and is concerned about how his body would hold up pitching in the Texas heat.

Lee is a great pitcher no matter the venue, but he is 32 years old and dealt with a back problem during the second half of the season. July and August in New York aren't exactly a treat, either, but if this is a legitimate concern, it could give the Yankees an advantage should he receive similar offers.

Yes KC has some serious talent in the minor leagues. If even half of them pan out they're going to be scary good in 2013/2014ish.

Not sure how much of a difference the weather is in Arkansas compared to Texas but hey it's a good negotiation stratgey in the very least.

He'll get a nice contract, he has a great arm, and is good defensively, inconsistant bat, however with Vlad as a free agent, the Rangers have Fran on speed dial if they lose Vlad u know??

On I'm sure his phone is ringing off the hook right now. I mean what MLB team wouldn't want a corner OFer that puts up a .268/.310/.425 with a .735 OPS and little speed. I'd be shocked if he got a MLB contract. But again I'm not counting out Dayton Moore.

Seriously though as a 4th or 5th OF playing against only LHPers be could possibly be useful because he does have a good glove and arm.

Buster Posey and Netali Feliz won the Rookie of the Year award.

I don't have a problem with either winning it, although in a perfect world Heyward would have been a co-winner with Posey. And if Heyward won outright I wouldn't have had an issue with it either. Feliz almost had to win the award by default. Just not a good AL rookie class. Carlos Santana would have easily won the AL award if Tim Bogar was never born.

Yeah, I read the breakdown of Heyward and Posey's numbers. Heyward actually had the better year all things considered. If his second half was like his first half, he wins the award. I'm sure it didn't hurt that Posey had a great postseason, even though that's not supposed to be taken into consideration.

Here's my question though, if you were a writer and didn't give your first and second place votes to either Heyward or Posey, what the **** were you thinking? Gaby Sanchez two first place votes? Gimme a break.

Voting is done and submitted before the post season starts to avoid players getting 'extra credit' for what they do/don't do in October. Really Posey and Heyward both should have won the award but I had no problem with Posey winning. The numbers were just too close and you could make an arguement for either over the other and not be right or wrong.

A Pittsburgh writer left Heyward off the ballot completely and voted for Buster Posey, Jose Tabata and Neil Walker in that order. An LA voter left Posey off the ballot and voted for Sanchez, Heyward and Garcia in that order. Sometimes the voting is funny but sad as well, I mean really Neil Walker and Tabata? Someone like that should have voting suspended for a year and give him a copy of Baseball 101. That's why I stopped really caring for these awards since the voters change their minds each year and there's never any consistency involved.

One of them was from a Miami Herald. He's an idiot.

I don't have a problem with Posey over Heyward. Their offensive numbers were similar but Posey gets the nod from me for being a catcher. Handling the pitching staff down the stretch, and putting up those numbers at a premium defensive position gives him the edge. Wouldn't be surprised, however, if Heyward finishes top 3 in MVP voting next year.

On the other hand you could say how many players could do what Heyward did at 20 years old. Buster Posey is three years older. With everything else being about equal that puts Heyward over the top, but I am a little biased. It's not a huge deal. Buster Posey is a hell of a player. J-Hey has the ability to be a perennial MVP candidate so this won't mean much in two or three years.

It does make it more impressive but I don't think it should be taken into account for the voters. They can't control how old they are. For the record, I wouldn't have had a problem at all if Heyward had won (Gaby Sanchez would have been a joke) I just preferred Posey

Between that and the number of games/plate appearances are certainly big factors for the 'Pro Heyward' crowd. If I were a Braves fan I'd be disappointed for all of 30 seconds then when I think that he's only 20 years old, was 4th in OBP and will only get better I'm asking my GM why he hasn't been signed to a long term Evan Longoria type deal yet.

Could be bad news for anyone signing him...Boras with multiple teams in pursuit..yeah some team is getting burnt...

Jon Heyman of SI.com reports that "12 teams" have expressed interest to this point in free agent third baseman Adrian Beltre.

Scott Boras told the Boston Globe last week that he's never experienced more interest in a client, and it sure sounds like he might have been telling the truth. Beltre posted an excellent .321/.365/.553 batting line, 28 home runs and 102 RBI for the Red Sox this year and is one of the top defensive infielders in all of baseball. It looks like he's going to seriously cash in.

Typical Boras. There's not even 12 teams in the market for 3B and even if there were I bet less than half of them could afford the price tag. Whatever I hope this report is true and Beltre signs with anyone but Boston.
