The debate is simple: Would you rather win this year (maybe, it's not guaranteed) by potentially hurting the development of your young QB OR leave said young QB in to get experience and work on the issues he's having?

Someone said earlier Henne is getting screwed because of where he was drafted, and I agree. But if you're not going to give a 2nd round pick as much time to develop as the #2 overall pick, then why draft a QB at all?

I'd really like to know what this regime considers developing a young QB. I really would. Because if this is it, I really need to change my thinking about football and the NFL in general.

I am watching Pennington presser, he is nothing but class. I am hoping Henne gets past this and learns, Pennington said he understood Hennes feeling but they are a team and work for Wins for the team. Sunday is going to be interesting

I saw a lot of drops and a take care of the ball Offensive gameplan. I didn't see a championship QB but I certainly don't see it in Pennington either.

Question for people that support this move:

If you do not win the SB this year, was this a good move, and if so, why?

Henne will not get better playing on the bench. I'm not worried about our 2nd matchup in NY now.

You think being a franchise QB is easy. You don't think Manning and Favre took beatings and stuggled a bit? That's horrible. You leave him in there.

That's the thing, if you don't win the Super Bowl, it's not a successful season. If Pennington fails then the Coaching staff needs to go. If we keep imploding then this wasn't a good move because we could have still had Henne for next year.

Yes he did. He did it in Minnesota, he did it last week, and he did it against I believe Pitt. I'm not saying he did it a lot or enough, but you can't pretend he never did it.

Maybe I'm wrong but here's my view of this situation.

Chad Henne's game does not mix well with Dan Henning and Tony Sparano's plans. Tony Sparano is a maniac about keeping turnovers down and this is why Dan Henning fits in so well in the coaching staff for Sparano.

Dan Henning has always talked about not beating yourself. He has always preached about not turning the ball over. I get that every coach preaches that but Dan Henning's preaching goes one step further. He calls plays to avoid possible mistakes, in which I think ends up hampering the offense. He's always said that he doesn't want his quarterbacks throwing over the middle because of the high % possibility of a interception. He's also always talked about not attacking the defense deep. He once stated that he expects his quarterback to throw roughly 24 passes a game and he expected at least 20 of them to be short to intermediate passes. He also once stated that if it was up to him, he'd run the ball every damn time (ironic to some of you, I know). Point is, he doesn't want his own players to beat themselves and I think that's detrimental to the team. However, I am not saying that Dan Henning is the sole issue on this team. I think that he is part of the problem but not as big as of one as he's portrayed. The reason is because a lot of the games he calls are still good and they are helpful when facing some defenses that can be attacked the way Dan Henning runs his offense - case and point, the New York Jets defense.

Now what's happened is that Chad Henne was given this starting job by default in the beginning of the season. Knowing that Henne was essentially a rookie starter (keyword: starter), there would be some up and downs and quite possibly a roller coaster of a season. This is typical expectations of a young quarterback, as many know. However, it does not mesh well with the beliefs of this coaching staff. They want a game manager, a guy who won't commit costly turnovers and lose the game. That plays into Chad Pennington being given the starting job. That also plays into the possible downfall of Chad Henne because this management/coaching staff does not have the patience to live with the developmental process of a younger player, in my opinion. Their patience is not very good and that's why Chad Henne was pulled. That's also probably why Jason Allen was cut, which I also think was a mistake albeit not as big as this one.

At the end of the season, it's going to have to be decided if Chad Henne is the problem or if its someone on the coaching staff (the coach himself? The OC?). Some will immediately point to Dan Henning but the question I pose is this, is Dan Henning truly wrong for the development of Chad Henne? Personally, I think he's been helpful in developing Chad Henne. However, I think that Henning has to develop some patience and understanding that he's working with a younger talent here, not a veteran ala Jake Delhomme, whom he had in Carolina. I think that if you fire this staff, you are again in the black hole. If you stick with them and see how they adjust, then positive can come out of this, even for Chad Henne.

One thing I'll say is that I don't believe the Tyler Thigpen bridge crap. Tyler Thigpen has some talent to be a solid backup in this league but two things that he lacks are poise and accuracy, in my opinion.

They had no problem developing Tony Romo. They brought him along slowly and played him when Bledsoe was injured, much like we played Henne.

And Tony Romo showed a hell of alot more in his first 20 starts than Henne. Romo's first full season of starting he completed 65%, 19 TD's, 13 INT's and a 95 QB rating. Better than anything Henne has put together in his first 20 starts

i believe so. just my read on ross. i really dont like ross, from the supposed dictate to slash the salary of our backups, to the ridiculous las vegas atmosphere he's trying to create, to his constant buddying up to peterson, I am quickly getting the sense that he's sticking his nose in where it doesnt belong

That ball clearly needs more arm strength and we were lucky that wasnt a GOOD Cb covering marshall. This play is almost exactly why im NOT excited for Pennington.

Where did this come from? Are you still hung up on us cutting two guys (Daniels and Grant) that nobody else wanted either?

And the ridiculous atmosphere you're referring to has actually worked to create a different, better vibe in the stadium. It seems silly, but it actually served its purpose. And Ross has been friends/business associates with Petersen for 20 years. There is no evidence that he wants Petersen to run this football team.

i think the real question is how much is this move because of Ross and how much is this the move of the coaching staff. If Ross is demanding wins now, you cant develop Henne like alot of us would like.

So you base your support of Pennington being an option based on one play against the JAGS, a 2008 filled with horrid Defenses that Pennington never mirrored before that season? So you pick the good points of his career rather than look objectively at the fact that he never played that well in NY, he had a lusciously easy schedule in 2008, and he's off of his third re-constructive surgery and has been bad in games against good D's? Then the fact that we have no running game this year without the Wildcat to help out. I don't see where the optimism comes from.

He may succeed, but the pure optimism in this move is puzzling.

First of all, this doesn't mean Henne isn't our franchise quarterback anymore. It just means he's not quite ready yet and we need to keep our season alive.

Secondly, Pennington will help our team out immensely, but we still need the running game to get on track.

Am I happy with this move? Meh. I could go either way, and I'm a huge Henne guy. However, I understand the move and think we are in great hands with Pennington. Say what you want about the guy but he's got all the heart in the world.
