Exactly, Edwards is not saying anything that we already don't know, this is an offense built for a Chad Pennington's Defensive Recognition, Touch and Rhythm game more so than Chad Henne's learning curve and strong arm.

    Herm loves Penny.

Last year on ESPN he said something to the effect of "All I know is that every year I had a healthy Chad Pennington we made the playoffs"

Same in Miami though, which is why I am not getting the hand wringing over the switch, is making the playoffs some terrible fate?

"Oh, no, not the playoffs, anything but that!!!"

    :dunno:

I do think Herm was spot on with the "he throws a very friendly ball" observation, and Herm thinks Beast will be even more productive with Pennington tossing him the rock.

Is it a fair rule of thumb to say, if Herm is for it, we should be against it?

I saw that on Mike & Mike. He also said that Penny will help Marshall, moreso than Bess, as he really likes big WR's.

On Henne, he said that dealing with this adversity could help him, or possibly hurt him. It is what makes an NFL player. He gave no opinion one way or the other.

I don't think anyone here thinks Penny sucks or isn't at the very least a good QB.

Herm is right. Penny is smart, a winner, and I like the guy. A lot.

However, he is 35 and injury prone. Every play I'm going to worry that something else besides the ball will be snapped.

Henne has shown flashes of being a very good QB. It's true he's played like crap at times. What QB, especially one with 20 games worth of starts under their belt, doesn't play like crap at times?

Again, I like Penny. I hope he stays with our franchise in one way or another for a long time. He's an asset. He's just NOT our future at the QB position.

Which is funny as Schottie's only playoff success came on the back of Joe Montana.

He just didn't understand it. He simply stated that if you're developing a guy you need to stick with him but understood that there are other factors invovled.

He never once said that Penny wouldn't be succesful or that Henne was a great QB.

Browns were loaded, KC had Montana and Allen and some hope.

That to me was the only Schottie team that overachieved.

We'll deal with that when it comes.

Although I don't expect it to (we might lose, but I am pretty sure we'll score more than 10).

I think that's why Sparano half-way covered himself by not naming Penny the starter for the rest of the season. Still though, once you've made the change you can't go back. .

Just commenting on how Herm Edwards is one of the last football people I'd want to here backing ANY move our franchise made.
We could sign Peyton Manning and Herm backing it would make me worry.

Even more interesting. What happens if you score 24 (3 TD's and a FG), but give up 30 and lose?

No one has answered a question I've posed which is which of your losses are wins had Pennington been the QB? I can't find one.

NYJ - This loss is on the defense. It was 14-0 before I cracked my second beer. And then when you took the lead, it was gone before I could take a leak. And when you had the game within a 1, they let NY drive for a late TD. Henne went 26/44 363 2/1. Pennington was going to play better than that?

NE - Special Teams lost this one. By the time Henne threw the pick 6, the game was over.

PIT - Pennington overcomes that miserable call by the officials? Come on. I guess you could make an argument that CP turns those early turnovers into TD's instead of FG's, but being that this is the Pittsburgh defense, that would be a thin argument at best. And again - I thought Henne played well enough to win.

BAL - Dropped INT, tipped passes that turn into INT's for BAL and the Raven amass 402 total yards and 26 points. I'm sorry - this one is on the defense as well.

I am not going to argue the move going forward, but to say that they would have had a better record had CP started the season is a very weak claim. 3 of your 4 losses came down to either the defense or the special teams. And the Pit game came down to a crappy call by the officials. I understand the lack of TD's, but that's not the reason you lost your 4 games.

My guess is that the coaching staff figures TEN is going to score and there best chance of a much needed victory is to outscore them...hence the move to CP. But it's not like you guys are 2-6, with losses like 13-10.

What's ironic is that NY can squarely pin their two losses on lack of offense. In their 2 losses they have given up an average of 9.5 points....and averaged 5 on offense.

    Here meaning this forum?

Well I think we all can envision what that would be like.

We won't be making a playoff run , nor the playoffs of course , therefore second guessing will be main menu item followed by next year pondering several months too early.

It won't be pretty , but neither will the locker room if we are under .500 after the first half of the season.

Pretty sure the sky will have fallen , again , as well ....

Here's the thing. We played our tough part of schedule with henne. Now we will get some lesser opponents with pennington at qb. Miami may win some of these games but will the reason be pennington? Just might be weaker opponents. Henne did beat gb and minny. Played very well against pitt too.

Well, a Qb brings a rhythm to the offense that does not show up on the stat sheet BB, that is where I think Henne is falling down.

Passes come out on a rhythm, blockers fire off the ball with a rhythm, running back hits the hole on a rhythm.

You see it in the two minute offense on a good team or in the no huddle, until we see where Pennington is, I cannot really comment until I watch it out on the field.

Best example of it is that 08 game v the Jets to end the season, Penny was sneaking balls past defenders and into Fasano or Ginn's hands downfield, that is just something that Henne has not done.

Henne is a bit like the fat kid in baseball, base by base, no doubles, no triples, one base at a time if a receiver drops a pass it stops everything and you just can't have an effective offense playing in that manner.

Umm Henne is one of the most rhythmic quarterbacks in terms of passing.

3 Steps plant and rocket it in. Thats Henne. The problem is that when your wideouts dont get SEPARATION, you can't do that.

The ball may come out, it is not getting there in the proper place nor at the proper speed, that is the difference between the two Qb's.

No, the difference between the two QBs is that one fits Henning's system and the other does not.

Not fair to look at how many points Penny might up and judge Henne based on that. These guys have had Henne playing Pennington-ball since he took the field. They force him to check it down, dont give him any type of reign to audible out of bad plays, and have generally handcuffed him.
You wont see 3 straight runs up the middle then a FG when our D creates a turnover.
You wont see the wildcat on 3rd and 6 in a critical drive.
You probably wont see those pu**ies Hartline and Fasano drop Pennys balloons. Marino would have cracked open a new a$$whole for those idiots on the spot if they had pulled that egregious nonsense.

These guys drafted a big armed gunslinger to play smallball, and are shocked it hasnt worked out. Ugh.
