If we ran the ball effectively and ran it into the end zone one of those first two drives we win. Our record isnt better then 4-4 because our running game isnt better then 4-4.
Nothing to do with football but, I see you are a Marine. A belated HAPPY VETERANS DAY, and THANKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I'm thinking more like listening to someone else's radio under a bridge. I have ABSOLUTELY NO FRAKIN TOLERANCE for anyone cheering for an injury. So far, I have been kind to this abortion of a "fan."
I agree. IMO benching Henne is short-sighted. I can even imagine the team playing better this year with CP at the helm, but next year we'll have a 35 year old QB in CP who has never been confused with an iron man. And we'll have a less experienced Henne.
I'd rather have a shot at winning than have to wait until next September. Henne will be fine. He'll either get it or he won't. He can still practice and watch film. He'll still have another NFL offseason. Maybe he can win the starting job back in camp. That would be the ideal scenario.
I give the coaches the benefit of the doubt that they explored everything in that long meeting why the Dolphins have been unable to score TDs instead of field goals, including Henning's playcalling. The best reason they came up with was QB execution. Sparano has looked beat down the last few press conferences. I know it was a hard decision for him. I don't think he made the decision lightly. I don't think he made the decision to save his job. I believe he genuinely feels that Pennington executing touch down drives may be the difference in the team making the playoffs. Then again, if we lose to Tennessee, the season is basically over. Will he go back to Henne to give him the remaining games of the season under his belt? Interesting decision.
Even this pre-season, I can't see any damn max protect. NO DAMN MAX protect, even Brown is just a quick read and out and not to the side of the field up the field a bit. Clearly they hated the idea of Henne under pressure. Pennington's quick reads and pocket presence are his key.
the only way i look at it is that when the schedule was released i predicted 4-4 with a best case of 5-3 at the break, which wasn't so different than most folks here ..... now that the games have been played, we know that we 'could' have bested even 5-3 with a little better play, some luck and some better referees. 'could' CP have gotten us there - maybe, but we 'could' have been there just as well without him. now the only question is if CP can lead the team to the 6-2 record in the 2d half that i/most thought was entirely possible .... because again, i absoutely think Henne could bring us home at 5-3 ..... so to me it's 6-2 or bust for CP
a loss today would put us at 2-5 in the AFC .... and all but knock us out of the playoffs ... a win today, helps us seriously reduce TENs chances at the playoffs with their AFC record -- it is an absolute MUST win for the season. We need to save the 1 AFC loss for the rematches with the JESTS or PATSIES for any legitimate chance. Todd, while i really do believe we can come home at 6-2 .... just as predicted in the preseason; we will find a way to finish 5-3 and 9-7. Gain nothing out of the switch, and be forced to bring CP back next year .... which really saddens me for our future.
Henne is getting benched because he isn't playing well. He's not just playing average to poor in the losses; he's playing average to poor in the wins. He's in the bottom third of NFL QBs right now. (Put aside whether this is Henning's fault for the moment.) To take an exaggerated example: if your quarterback goes 2-14 but you win because your running back goes wild and the defense shuts down the other team, you don't say, "well, we're going to ignore this game in evaluating our QB, because we won."
