If Henne really dislocated his knee cap and he was lucky enough not to have damaged any tendons in doing so, then its like him hitting the lottery but still, he is not coming back in 2-3 even 4 weeks. There are tendons that run across the top of the knee cap that basically hold it in place, otherwise it would be free floating. There is also a track the kneecap rides in. Even if there was no serious damage he has two options. 1 Leave it alone and let the swelling go down and basically, do nothing but rehab it. 2 Leave it alone for now, do what you do at number one then in the off season have surgery to ' tighten " up the PCL that holds the knee cap in place. Option 2 will be about 6 months till he can actively do anything. Option 1 is about 6 to 7 weeks but IF the knee cap came out, the tendon is stretched and as sure as God made Green Apples, the knee cap will pop out of place again. Its like using a rubber band to strap something, after awhile it just plain ol stretches and gets lose. Number one is the old rubber band number two option is like putting on a new rubber band. Its utltimately his choice but as I said, IF it really did dislocate, I doubt we see him in less then 5 to 6 weeks.
He's the future, imo, because the team invested a second round pick on him, plus the time to develop him behind Pennington. IMO, Henne is the future of this team because he can be our franchise Quaterback. He has all the traits you need to be one, the one thing he is lacking is experience. Experience that he can get this season. It may put this team a step back becaus he may struggle, but it could pay huge dividends next season.
couldn't disagree with you more on this mommabilly. the patella or knee cap is held in place by the patella tendons, which do ride in a groove so to speak. yes they can be stretched or tear. your pcl or posterior cruciate ligament has nothing to do with holding your patella in place, it is for knee joint stabilization as is the anterior cruciate, medial collateral, and lateral collateral. If henne just popped his knee cap out, then bloody well pop it back in and he should be alright to play. he'll have swelling and some pain but he should be able to play. UNLESS he has damaged the tendons, fractured the patella or other bones, damaged the ligaments listed above, or torn his meniscus which is a padding type rubbery ****e in between the femoral head and the tibial plateau. We prolly won't know before game time cause this staff feels its a competitive edge to keep this kinda stuff a secret,,,, but if he just dislocated his patella then pop it back, literally boink, painful yes,,,, and lace em up henne get in the game bro.
Question Bofin... would some kind of a knee brace help expedite his return, and/or help stabilize the knee while it's mending?
You are correct, its the patella tendon but you do not just ' pop " it back in an keep going. Like I said, if there is no damage to anything else, its still 5-6 weeks before any Dr. in the Continental United States in his right mind will clear him to play. Yes he can wear a brace but the guy moves like he has a washer and dryer on his back before the injury and running ? Lord, he is the poster boy for slooooooow white boy. With the injury he now added a small European Scooter to the load he carries. None of us are going to know as they will never tell us until the season ends. I cannot see an imobile Chad Henne coming back unless Thigpen bombs out that bad and I actually think Thigpen is going to be fun to watch.
Honestly, the benching doesn't mean Henne's career is over. But, it is a major wake up call. If he doesn't get the job done his next stint - it's over. The fact is he has to learn to make good - often aggressive - decisions quickly and be consistently accurate. If he doesn't develop the proper instincts, it won't happen for him. One thing I learned from coach K on Duke's All-Access the past week is that attention to the minutest details on one's fundamentals and practicing those over and over - can really improve a player. Whether it will happen is another thing. But, I don't think we can simply throw these QB's away as having no chance. Thigpen still has a chance to shine. One never knows what a QB can do as he develops. Just think about Kurt Warner - an Arena league and Euro league player. And, some QB's take several years to develop a comfort level. Doesn't mean that these guys are going to become very good (they may both turn out to be journeymen backups at best!), but there is still hope for either Thiggy or Henne.
i dont think henne is any danger of losing his status as this team's QB unless Thigpen turns into the second coming of Tony Romo or Steve Young. Is Henne where we want him to be? No, but he's where you want a 2nd year starting QB to be. Effective if inconsistent. Next year is the critical year for Henne's career and whether the team will cement his status or whether they will start looking elsewhere. He has to take control of the offense and that means no more looking tentative out there. He has to attack vertically. He has to make plays on a consistent basis. He has to play like he has a pair. He has to be just as effective against cover 2 as he is against man. He has to be effective in the red zone. He has to become slightly more accurate. I see nothing yet to indicate that this is beyond his abilities at this stage. I just think he's progressing at an average pace as opposed to being some phenom which is the exception rather than the rule
I don't believe so. Like mommab stated the tendon kinda rides in a track and i don't know how they could really help that. maybe taping?? ,,btw love the girl in blue
Mommab I guess we can agree to disagree, no big deal bro,,, and dam i love that girl on the bike too.
McNabb can't be the future b/c he's 34 years old. What is 'the future' you ask? It's subjective of course but I'd say at least 5 years down the road
Henne out of the 4 wide set on Sunday was filthy lethal. Don't stick a fork in him just yet... Thiggy plays a lot like Romo.
Some of Henne's inconsistencies seem odd to me... Last year he had more accuracy on the deep ball. This year he came in knowing he had to aquire better touch and has done that. His accuracy and penchant for underthrowing the ball has been the biggest oddity this year if you ask me. How do we know that the kneecap rumor is even true? Maybe he's back next week, who knows? Day to day is a positive sign.
he "earned" the right to start by having the two QBs in front of him get injured and by being good enough to stick on our roster as a 3rd string QB. He will have "earned" the right to start when he is starting and a "healthy" Henne is sitting on the bench
I don't think Henne has ever been benched...ever. So this could be a wakeup call like others have said. Letting him know he's not the anointed one and remind him he has to work harder and be more consistant at the pro level. At some point he needs to take the buill by the horns and improvise when he needs to to create plays, i've seen him do it, he has the ability. As far as Thigpen earning the starting roll..he threw 4/6 64 Yards and a TD. Not bad but hardly a reason to leap frog him over Henne if Henne is healthy. Now if by some lighting strike Thigpen becomes our version of Kurt Warner, well excellent but lets not hold our breath. And I'd even go as far as saying that if Thigpen plays lights out on Thursday, not getting overly excited about it, The Bears have only a few days to prepare for someone they have little film on as as Dolphin and i can't count how many times a backup lit it up on his first start then faded back to what he is, a 2nd string QB. And here's is a passing thought, Maybe a reason Henne hasn't taken that next step as a leader and on the field is because of Pennys presents...Penny may just be such a huge locker room influance that its hard to get out from under his shadow. Penny is a born leader and its hard for a young guy to match and eclips that kind of personality...imagine a young kid comming in and trying to be the leader with Marino or Elway sitting behind them? (no i'm not comparing Penny to them on the field just leadership quality). Just food for thought.
His accuracy has been an oddity this year? Could you please explain? I also disagree with him having more accuracy on the deep ball last year.
Did Henne kick the 23rd's dog? I'm just curious. Lotta hate there. Henne's no go this week due to the knee on a short week. But make no mistake, a healthy Chad Henne is superior to Tyler Thigpen. And if Thiggy were all you made him out to be, he wouldve won the job in camp, or hell, won the backup job in camp. That said, hope he comes up roses in 48 hours.
I love Henne, and I'm a supporter but his accuracy has been pretty poor this year, unless throwing to Bess. Last year he hit several deep to Ginn, this year he hasn't hit anyone in stride other than that one deep throw to Marshall in Minny. He has consistently underthrown the long ball. I still think he works it out though...
