IMO this kid is probably our future #3 QB which means we may very well not need to use a draft pick on QB for next season. Brandstater's still a little raw but he has some nice upside, is readily improving, and is a great fit for a Sparano/Henning offense b/c short to intermediate routes are his strong suit. He also seems to have the potential to be that "cerebral" type QB whom Penny can take under his wing. Tom would've been buried on the Denver's depth chart behind Orton, Tebow, and Quinn hence going to Indy where he was stuck behind Peyton and a promising Curtis Painter (Indy is only carrying 2 QBs), so this is a great pick up for us IMO. I really like that he was able to work with the best QB in the NFL; Watching Manning first hand can only do a young QB good. Tom had a nice preseason and showed impressive improvement finishing preseason with an exclamation point performance: 10-18 for 178 yards, 9.9 ave, 3 TDs, 0 INTs, and a 129 rating. I watched that game and really liked what I saw from him. I was disappointed we didn't draft him in 09, so now I'm excited to see him in Aqua & Orange.
cool. i like this kid. actually saw a preseason game with him. not saying he is going to make a difference but he showed a bit in limited action. probably top 5 value for what was available
Nice pickup for us for a developmental guy. Leads me to believe our QB's next year are Henne, Thigpen & Brandstater. Hopefully Pennington moves to QB coach, and Lee gets a promotion to... oh I dunno, say OC? I like this pickup though.
Don't know much about the kid but remember some posters pimping him a little bit so sounds like a good pick up, hope it works out for him here.
He played well enough in the preseason to make many team's roster IMO, but when you're stuck behind Manning and Curtis Painter while Indy carries 2 QBs, then it's tough to have a future there. He's definitely not a finished product but he has a lot of potential as a 3rd string developmental QB like Brandon27 mentioned. I'd much rather have him than spend a 5th round pick on another developmental QB with an even longer learning curve. I think we just saved ourselves a draft pick. He could very well be starting caliber a few years from now. CK? Thoughts?
What I like about him is the "right" teams looked at him, Broncos and Colts, so they saw something in him that they thought was worth investing time into as a Qb. Nice thread TP.
Thanks Padre. Good point about the teams who liked him. Love that the Colts wanted him...... or even better- that they thought enough of Tom to bring him in to battle it out with Painter even though they only carry 2 QBs. That says a lot about him IMO.
Maybe be a good pick up. The guy sounds like he might be a diamond in the rough. Will be interesting to see if he sticks.
He finished his communications degree at Fresno State in only three years; earned academic honors each year; was three-time Academic All-WAC choice and already has his Masters degree in psychology IIRC. The kid has some smarts.
