I know there are a couple threads about this, but I figured since he is our franchise player I would start one where we could just post any updates as the news come in. This was posted up on PFW about a half-an-hour ago: http://www.profootballweekly.com/2010/11/14/long-to-have-mri-on-shoulder
Here is his RotoWorld link for those that want to check in intermittently. http://www.rotoworld.com/content/playerpages/player_main.aspx?sport=NFL&id=4712
Local radio stations down here are reporting Long is out for the year with surgery. Second year in a row we've been doomed with injuries.
I'll be completely shocked if he's out for the year with surgery. The guy came back in and was there on the final TD drive. He was there in the postgame speech looking alive and clapping hard. He didn't look like a guy that's shoulder is torn up. I think maybe the thing popped out a little bit and he's getting a precautionary MRI. Maybe he's out this week, but I don't see it being a season ender.
Omar Kelly of the South Florida Sun-Sentinel predicts that Dolphins LT Jake Long (shoulder) will play in Week 11 against the Bears. Oddly, Kelly is the same source for a Monday morning suggestion that Long might need year-ending shoulder surgery. The results of Long's MRI aren't yet known, but the pessimistic report is clearly anything but reliable. We may not know a whole lot more about the injury before Thursday night's game. http://twitter.com/OmarKelly/status/4255188013555712
Carey & Murtha will do just fine. Thigpen is much harder to run-down than Pennington or Henne. Thigpen actually likes being forced out of the pocket occasionally. fact is he's most dangerous on the move. got a good feeling about this one. not to worry everything will be just fine adversity & competition bring the best out of a team remember about this time of year every team is banged upnow you get to see their true metal. I love it
Honestly, at this point, I'd rather Jake sit it out. His future is much more important than the remaining 7 games of this season, when we're down to our #3 QB. If true, he is a ****ing warrior.
I have no problem with him sitting out IF he needs to....but if he can go, I want him in there....Long at 85% is better than Carey at 100%.....alot of this is speculation to HK, like somebody on here said Long came back in, for the TD drive, was at the postgame....he made the rounds u know?? Is Long banged up...probably...but the man is going to ball Thursday...hopefully! Also I may be the minority in this one, but nothing changes to me...there really isnt that much of a difference between Miami's #3 and #1 Qb.....
Got to love Omar, send out a tweet that Long could be out for the year, than send one out and predict he will play. Now he can say he was right.
The weird thing about all of these injuries is that I have yet to see a report of what the exact injury is for any of them. We know Pennington hurt his shoulder, Henne hurt his knee, etc., but to what extent? I have yet to hear of what type of damage has occured to Henne's knee, or Pennington's shoulder. Can anyone accurately fill in the blanks with these yet?
What? Of course he can walk off on his own power, it's his shoulder. As a guy that has shredded his shoulder/rotator cuff and it was a season ending injury for baseball--you can't block the way he was on the final series. You just can't. I seriously think this story is just circulating and the writers are giving it legs. He's getting an MRI to make sure, nothing more...I really believe that.
23 does make a good point about Thigpen though. Guy is pretty mobile and moves well. If Long is out, that will be to our benefit. I think Hardkore nailed it though, if this is potentially serious I'd rather shut him down then see him try and come back and things get worse. No injuries are good, but shoulders on OL can be nasty. Isn't that what killed Smiley?
we are not doomed, its a physical game, its not that we are the only team that loses players to injuries
sidenote here is some good news per Salguero Twitter also when you look at the post locker room talk with Sparano, when they huddle together at the end, jake long is in there, must be the left shoulder since he is just lifting right arm to huddle up http://www.miamidolphins.com/video?bcpid=585645507001&bclid=260803762001&bctid=676259909001
Well, things are looking better. Long may be okay, Wake is fine, and Henne might not be out for the season. And yeah, other teams have injuries. But not many lose their number one and two QB's and their HOF LT in the same week.
Sparano smirks and Says we'll see about thursday, Jake Long is a tough guy.. I would keep henne's injury secret, make the bears prepare for both Henne and Thig.
just imagine the shock of all of us if henne is the starting QB on thursday, what a tough SOB he would be, i´m almost prepared to go with thigpen though, he seems to have some upside and we need it this thursday
While I like the fact that Long is tough, if it risks further injury to his shoulder by playing through it, I'd rather him sit out and heal up. But if it puts him at no risk of making his shoulder worse I would let him play through it. Right now I'm hoping his dislocation didn't cause any structural damage. Most dislocations also come with a labral tear, but I'm thinking positive.
Well if they want to give him a week to rest it now would probably be a good time with Thigpen probably playing. Henne will be a sitting duck out there if the pass protection suffers.
Mort just reported on ESPN's MNF Countdown that Jake not only suffered a dislocated shoulder, but also suffered some damage to his labrum. He also said he's probably going to miss this Thursday night's game. Take that FWIW.
Mort added that Long had a Sprained MCL, Dude is a ****in beast. If Jake plays then he is the new "iron man" of the NFL.
Long suffered labrum damage, Week 11 in doubt http://nbcsports.msnbc.com/id/40204816/ns/sports-player_news/ not sure if this is season ending.
Posted this in club, but figured I'd post this in here too. With regard to Long being out Thursday and/or beyond: Depends on how much it was torn. I've had one and my brother has had 4, and in total, we've had 5 surgeries. The way the doctors described it to me, the labrum is essentially round, like the face of a clock. A small tear, for instance, 12-3, probably won't require surgery, but anything more, it most likely will. That said, depending on the tear, it only limits the shoulder's mobility somewhat (given a man's pain tolerance), most often when moving a shoulder directly up and/or reach out straight ahead or straight out to the side. Obviously I'm sure Jake Long is a man amongst boys when it comes to pain tolerance, but I know Satele played through it, Chad Ochocinco played through it, and a torn labrum would affect him more with the amount of running, reaching, stretching of the arm. I work for Anthony Munoz and he just recently had one and he was fully recovered and well into rehab in 6 weeks (i.e. out of a sling and moving pretty well). If Jake opts to wait for surgery, which IMO, I think he could play through and have surgery in say late January, he wouldn't miss any time during the offseason unless they found further complications. I will say that my surgery and all 4 of my brothers were done with scopes and neither of us had anything more serious than having a bone chip removed. I'd bet 60-40 that Long plays Thursday unless the labrum was completely torn.
No problem. I've just been around torn labrum's so much recently I figured I'd share. The one thing you have to watch out for with not having surgery is the risk of it tearing more. I originally tore mine my senior year of high school. Just got hit funny on the shoulder, didn't even notice it until the day after the game. Using the face of the clock analogy, mine was torn from 3-4 o'clock. Didn't need surgery or a brace and I was able to finish out 10 more games that year. Fast forward 3 years and I'd felt it pop a few times, but the pain never increased and randomly playing flag football, stuck my arm up to signal a QB and felt a pop. Arm went numb form the elbow down to my hand, had an MRI the next day and it had torn from 3 back to 12 o'clock. That said, if Jake does play, they can definitely put it in a harness (I think Fasano was wearing something akin to it Sunday) and it won't let him move it in a position to tear it. But if he gets hit there, lands on it, over extends his arm, the risk is still there regardless of what protective brace or harness they'd give him.
jake has been playing through the mcl injury.... how many times do I have to say he should have never been in there in preseason
The guy is a warrior..... Dolphins LT Jake Long is expected to try to play through a labrum tear in his shoulder. The Miami Herald's Armando Salguero writes that Long will require surgery at some point that will require 3-6 weeks of healing and another 3-6 weeks of rehab, but he will attempt to gut it out for the final seven games with the aid of a harness. Multiple reports have indicated how tough Long is, but it's still no guarantee he'll be able to do this.
