Not sure we are over performing im a big homer but see that our oline has regressed. this alone makes me question Sparano. But Sparano just in pressers gives me confidence. We started this journey with a rebuild of the roster had some vets that gave us stability but not that punch to go deep in the playoffs. I hope we can compete for a playoff spot this yr. next yr we will also compete not dominate because the offense will get the overhaul. It is what it is IMO

EDIT: To many ideas im just spewing at the mouth lmao. I do believe that henning is a great cordinator the game just has past him by.

"Great football minds" don't consistently blow short goaline situations like 2nd and goal from the 2 or 3rd and goal from the 1. Just saying.

Well let's be honest here, the interesting portion of the season is just beginning, the Second Half of the Season we are 1-0, we have to wait to see what the SparanoPhins do in the second half.

TBH, I have watched every game, including preseason, read stats, the whole bit, and I still do not see how we are winning football games, to me that means Sparano is doing a great job this year.

TNF is the real test siciliansith, the Oline is banged up with Berger and Long seriously injured, the Depth guys have to fill in and play well.

I agree completely! This is where we go forward or regress.

I have confidence in Thigpen, sad Penny got hurt, and henne is our future.

I NEED more football knowledge i see my shortcummings but winning is the key

LONG scares me he is on peppers right, hard guy to block when your arms dont work? hmm?

Eh, no worries about the football knowledge bit, it is waaay overrated as two people can watch the same thing, and take away something very different.

Peppers has 2 sacks in 8 games, but Long in the long run is what worries me, if it is "make do" with McQ or Murtha, or risk Jake Long's career, I go with "make do".

Sparano and Gugs are the Oline gurus this is right in their wheelhouse.

IM REALLY EXCITED TO SEE THIGPEN PLAY, but its tough for the guy on a short week. I hope he does well if not when Henne gets back we will spend another yr saying what if. I believe like ya said in other posts we throw long in for a series and see how he looks adjust from there. Hate to see Long hurt any worse

I like Henne, believe in him, just have now noticed he isnt as smart as i hoped but he can come around with another yr of work

this team is young and works hard never gives up.

And AM VERY HAPPY TO HEAR PADRE give Sparano and Ireland props. They work hard and think they do make this team better. I am getting annoyed by all the negativity

I lost track of my own thread lmao. If henning continues to open it up like last week im ok with him for this yr. But still believe Sparano or david lee should call plays. I just hate to waste a season saying what ifs

I agree with keeping Henning for the year if he keeps it open like he did vs Tenn...... but at the same time I don't want it to blind people. This isn't the kind of "open offense" that I feel can have long term success. It's like the wildcat IMO...... and over time, teams will catch onto his bag of tricks and begin recognizing them just like they did the WC. But I could be wrong.

Bro, one thing I never worry about with Sparano's team is guys being ready to play or not, he is a detail freak and will have his guys ready to go as all 63 players are given attention.

My only concern is the injuries, and mis evaluating their effect on the field, Sparano is ready to stay with his guys sometimes a bit to long imo.

I hope they're smart enough to not risk Jake's long term value to the team and his career.

EDIT: Play calling....who else would do it? I prefer to keep Henning this year and tell him to open the playbook more.

Im luving the details. I'll be online somewhere lol. Look forward to us beating a 6 win team at home.

Im always woried about starters over extending themselves. If Long can go one game this is it. Short week we cant get anyone ready imo. Let long play, guage his performance the make a decision. We have a 10 day window to coach up a newb if needed. jmo

what makes you think Sparano can call a game as good or better than Dan Henning? Sparano's an offensive line coach. I'd be more worried that his playcalling would be even more conservative than Hennings. No thanks.

What calls are you referring to when you say "open"? Because I can surely show you times we've run them prior to the Tennessee game.

SB, cmon man, leave semantics at home. You're just trying to argue for the sake of arguing..... so I'm gonna refrain from feeding into it.

But if you want to, then be my guest...... demonstrate how much of an "open", attacking offense we've been all year. This should be good. :tongue2:

well i think our season is pretty much over due to the injuries we suffered on sunday. i believe we had a chance if we stayed healthy. i expect a dramtic fall off in our abilties on both defense and offense and I wont blame the coaches one iota. blame fate or bad luck. still, i will say you never know. maybe we can pull some victories out of our *** and give our injured time to heal. if that happens we will have great coaching. basically to me its either great coaching wins it or bad luck loses it

I think Sparano may change it up. I never said he would be better. Henning is stale at the moment, he is a great OC but maybe the play calling needs a tweek. Also if your gonna say he might be be conservative because he is a line coach i disagree. We have thrown the ball more than ever this yr? Sparano still has final say

NOW THIS THREAD WAS STARTED AFTER THE BALT. game. We opened it up a little against the Titans. a little spread etc.. But still think we need a new man calling the plays. Henning is my problem and im not on the bandwaggon just a bit underwelmed

Semantics aside, I'm being serious. All you need to do is cite a particular play, and I'll show us running it previously.

I'm not disagreeing we haven't run the plays before...... I just don't recall us running "as many" of them in 1 game before. I came away with the impression that we were trying to do more attacking..... and trying to do so (to some degree) even with the lead, which has seemed rare for us IMO.

i think henning will either be super agressive and creative or super conservative this game. It will probably depend on how our defense does. but basically he's going into this game with a 3rd string QB, a banged up offensive line and no running game against the 2nd best defense in the NFL. I'm anticipating some creative plays first or second series and then we slow it down and try to play small ball and control the clock and play field position. If we fall behind however I expect Henning to become a mad scientist in his play calling trying to create something out of nothing

I agree we have seen these plays but not in abundance we saw against Tenn.

Now three weeks ago we were told that Henne like the play action since we have ran out the shotgun more. Last week we spread the field more. 4 wides at times. not saying thats good but we are thinking

Considering he hasn't been super aggressive in 31 years, we all know which one it's going to be. I expect Henning to become a mad scientist in creating ultra conservative play calls to fit his play not to lose philosophy, which ultimately keeps a game we should win by 21 points, a close game.

I agree for the most part. IMO we can win this game by trying to get Cutler to beat himself for us.

I would say that the CIN game was called just as aggressively as the TEN game. Difference being, Henne chose not to throw the routes. A lot of that has to do with the fact that CIN played a lot of cover-2, which I don't think Henne handles very well.

Thigpen is a spread QB so it's possible we run more spread formations. But considering how incompetent our coaching staff is, we'll probably still have 8 players in max protect, and 2 players running routes every play.

Barking up the wrong tree i love Sparano!

we have continued to compete while our team is far from perfect. That is coaching. we need to turn the corner fr sure but it aint on Sparano! Henning needs t let the yuong guys call plays, EDIT: the coaches im not ready for Henne to audible yet

    Hahahe...

Tell you what sicilianS, if Ramsey had to start in Oakland I'd have every confidence in Sparano that he could do so and he would play well.

Of course Ramsey would be sleep deprived so Sparano maybe would allow him a 3 hour nap before the game..make that 2 hours..:D

I watched Scott Mitchell come into games and play well with no prep time when Marino went down, then Deberg, then Jaworski, it can be done with no excuses if the Coach has the right mindset.

I was referring more to Henning, but if Sparano hasn't fired this senile idiot by now, he's obviously not the sharpest tool in the shed. And if he's a part of this playing not to lose philosophy which it's becoming obvious he is, he should probably hit the road with Henning.

I can respect that opinion R&R But a true leader manages situations. Henning is a situation and throwing him under the bus just makes us 1-15 again! Maybe we wanna be the Lions of past yrs or the new Bills.

EDIT: OK MAYBE not 1-15 BUT WE TAKE A # OF STEPS BACK imo

I actually like Sparano as far as getting the team prepared, pumping them up, and stuff like that. But if we're playing not to lose because that's his philosophy as well as Hennings, then he needs to go because that philosophy doesn't win.
