If he is allowed to walk, I might have to find a new franchise.

Not a fan of tearing up deals in the middle of them, do think Wake does need a new one as he has done everything asked of him to the "T" and has been far more a part of the future plans than anyone could have known when he signed in 1/09.

Not talking Ware money, but he should be in the couple of million dollars per yr range imho.

Clearly he has outperformed his current contract. Not a big fan of this kind of thing but to this point he has earned it and I don't see any signs of letup in him.

While I agree we need to pay the man his money, do we really want to risk overfeeding his wolf?

He's making less than half a mill a year, and for the most part is our pass rush. I think he deserves a bump up to his contract for this year, and visit it in the offseason when you know what the CBA situation is.

Funny how players who outplay their contracts want more money. Yet those who sign big contracts and play like sh## never demand that the team pay them less. I do agree though that Wake is vastly underpaid based on his contributions to the defense and he deserves a raise.

I'm usually not a fan of such shenanigans, but this is a case where a guy set a personal goal and looks like he is on his way to achieving it. Consideration must be made.

Because most of those contracts only have guaranteed money in the signing bonus & not the annual salaries etc. Teams can cut them at anytime if they think they aren't playing up to their contract and not get another cent (Gerbil Wilson, Smiley, Wilford, Grove etc).

Wake is a player who should get a new deal. He signed for a very low amount, is at the age where his time to get a large money contract is diminishing. It's best for the team to sign him now as he won't get a top end deal like he would if he did double digit sacks 2 years running. They'll probably re-sign him to a 4-5 year deal with a $9-12 million signing bonus which is still a steal in the end considering.

If he has the attitude that Bess does after his deal, no problem tearing up that deal.

He better get paid. He deserves it. He single handedly has kept us in games defensively. He's a monster.

True, but the signing bonus isn't free money. It's money paid in advance against the player's expected performance over the life of the contract. It frustrates me when I see players in the middle or back end of a deal complaining because their salary doesn't stack up against others at their position - conveniently ignoring the large signing bonus that was received.

That said, I do think wake deserves a new deal at the end of the year

Is it also funny how teams can cut a player at anytime, but if a player quits he can be sued for bonuses paid to him?

I think they said something like we have 12 sacks on the year and Wake has 8.5 of them. How long do you really need to think on this one?

We have 23 sacks. 12 would be awful.

Yeah, I don't like re-doing deals unless its absolutely necessary, in this case, it is. The man deserves a salary bump no doubt.

Hopefully this org does the right thing and pays the man. That will speak volumes for free agents in the future.
