A player rep boss is always going to side with the players over the owners when it comes to things like injuries, and trying to get more money for players. I think adding about five players to the roster should fix this. Getting two QB's hurt in one game was kind of a fluke. You can have a guy like Favre who never misses a game or have guys like Jake Grove who get hurt pretty much every 3-4 weeks. My main concern is that D. Smith and the owners iron out a collective bargaining agreement so there will be football come 2011. An NFL strike would really ruin my Sundays.
Look, the NFL and everyone running it is purely in it for one thing, money. The current and former players actually care. Sometimes i wonder if they are the ones that should be running the league....
They're both about the money. The players want more money and the owners want more money. That's why they're at a stand still. Personally I have no problem with them being all about the money. More power to them.
The players are about the money in many respects; but they realize that health is a factor and player health means more chance at good paydays. But, given the the plethora of early death rates among ex NFL players, plus huge quality of life deterioration after age 50 for NFL players, 18 games is a big negative health wise. I am siding with the players union on this one - even though I tend to not be a big union guy. I also think 18 games will ultimately detract from the game - both in terms of history and in terms of quality of the season.
Exactly. There is only so much physical punishment the body can take. 16 games is hard enough and now you want to go for 18? The owners are the greedier of the two sides here.
Just because the roster would be expanded doesn't mean good players will fill those spots. It just means more fringe guys stick around. That said, the owners' solution to 18 games is expanding the roster by one player. Yeah, that ought to cover it. Smith and the players are right. The owners don't get it and/or ultimately don't care.
More games = more money you think Stephen Ross gives a **** what players think get a f*cking clue DeMaurice Smith... This is a lost cause will our teams and players take a hit because of it of course but theres money involved so it doesnt matter what they think unfortunately.
If you are a season ticket holder it won't be a penny difference, as the league already makes you pay full price for those 2 preseason games.
